I am a bit confused, we meet 2 other couples for dinner in Epcot a couple weeks ago total 6 adults and gratuity was added automatically, and I think it was 20% 3 bills one for each couple. Which one couple was not happy about, for us we did not care.

During Christmas we took our DD, SIL and DGS ( 11 months), total 4 adults and the baby - to Rainforest before we had his pictures taken with Santa at Disney Springs. They automatically added in gratuity to our check, when my DH mentioned this, our server said your a party of 5. 18%..

Then we had dinner again with them at Raglan Road a few weeks ago and the gratuity was not added in automatically.

Soo........ can someone tell me is there a set rule for this? I don't care if they do but I would like to know what the party size and what the % amount should be, I do help friends plan and I like to know the correct info. to give to them.

I thought it was 18% for parties of 6 or more, which does include infants. I am interested to see what others say.

It's 18% for parties of 6 or more at DISNEY owned restaurants. Infants count in the total (even if they didn't order food)

Rainforest is a Landry's. Raglan Road is owned by another company. So they would have their own rules.

I wish they would just add it anyway. If I have a problem with service Ill bug the manager about it. It would be one less thing for me to worry about.

18% for parties of 6 or more, and the party count includes everyone at the table, regardless of age or whether they eat or not, and carries over onto split bills (if you have 6 people at a table and split it into 2 checks, each check will have the 18% added because they are still a party of six). It is true, this is a Disney rule and third party places may do their own thing, but it's pretty consistent.

We just had dinner for 7 at The Boathouse. They automatically added 18% tip which was fine with us, and while they don't tske tables in wonderland card they do take 10% discount for DVC members.

This.

We had a waitress recently let us know they added gratuity to parties of 6 or more, but the way she said it made it seem like there has been some confusion lately. She seemed relieved we had TIW and expected an added gratuity.

OP here,

Thanks for all your help, 6 people including children, 18 % at Disney restaurants, .... Non Disney owned policies could be different. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

1) It is up to the SERVER whether to add the 18% gratuity for parties of six or more.
2) At WDW-owned eateries, the SERVER prepares the bill, so he/she decides how to invoice you.
. . . they have the leeway to add or not add the automatic tip
. . . there is no computer program that simply applies the tip
