Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

I was telling Dh about people at Poly and YC getting meet and greets with characters. He said if this was the Titantic the deluxe guests would be the people drinking the champagne while we at the values drown in cargo holds. (We did actually get a flashlight delivered to our room about 30 minutes ago, though)

Before anyone jumps down my throat, this is meant to be a JOKE!

I get the joke part, but really, it's not the difference in levels of resorts, it's interior doors vs exterior..

If they cared about safety and not $$$ they would be offering their rooms for free to displaced florida residents, turning their many buildings into shelters, etc. Or they would have closed MK today to discourage folks from traveling to Orlando and allow castmembers time to make their own preparations Instead they chose to keep their resorts full, keep the park open till the last minute, continue accepting new reservations while not making sure sufficient staff were on hand to support the care of small city size number of families.

Well... they had to house the displaced campers from the Fort (who are paying guests) they also had a cruise ship full of folks also displaced. People also had to extend trips due to the closing of the airport. They are totally full.
Disney did make sure the CMs are taken care of. They closed the park at 5 so those CMs not on ride-out crew could get home. So lets be extra kind to CMs. They are working to try to help out but most are being mistreated by cranky people. How'd you like to have to help angry people, not being at home with your family, not knowing how your home is?

Have you hugged your ride-out crew CM today?

Actually I think all the hotels get some characters. I saw a vid of one of the past storms and they were in All Star Sports and they had goofy and some bears from country bear jam. Also some of the mods and delux places didn't get flashlights. I don't know about you but I'd rather have light then a few bubbles. But I do get what your saying.

The people a few doors down at pop are having a party about 8 people all obviously drunk all out in the hallway they have even put their room chairs into the corridor, making a racket they are really irritating.
I was trying to get some sleep before the weather woke me later. :sad2:

Staying in NOFQ and realized we should have eaten at MK before we came back to the hotel. Went over to POR and people were lined up 50 deep waiting for food, nobody there to give instuctions or direct people. They were also lined up out the door of the general store buying basics. Looked like a refugee crisis. Weather was just a drizzle around 6pm so we drove down the road past disney springs to the the hotel corner with the holiday inn. There were several restaurants open including a steakhouse, dennys, and wafflehouse. Several convenience stores open. We got some takeout from the dragon super buffet and went back to eat at the resort.

I'm a little disappointed Disney couldn't be better organized and have sufficient staff to get food distributed to families with tired kids... if all those restaurants were open then disney could have offered a shuttle rather than trapping people in a hotel with no food.

Why didn't you keep right on driving if things were so bad?

This will not make it to a Cat 5. In fact will probably come on shore as a Cat 3. BUT that's still a very dangerous storm. All safety measures taken by authorities need to be heeded.
I guess all the meteorologists are all wrong. Maybe they should call you for your "expert" hurricane prediction

Having lived through Hurricane Katrina, if it is as bad as they predict, the next few days are going to be chaos at best. Hopefully, it will bring out the best in people instead of the worst.

After living through Katrina, I'm really shaking my head at the posts about no delivered flashlights, extra bath towels and $13 sandwich boxes. While sitting safely At Disneyworld no less.

Really??? Over 230 people have already lost their lives in Matthew and this is what's important? Definitely 1st world problems.

I am scratching my head...Orlando is a big city with thousands of places to eat. Why are people sitting there with a box of food like a refugee?
Because starting at 6:00 pm, no one is supposed to be on the roads. The restaurants are all closed, and their employees are taking cover from a hurricane. Are you serious? They essentially are refugees for the next 36 hours.

Even if there were / are characters at AoA, I'm not going to walk to the foos court from the LM section to see them in this weather.

It has crossed my mind :( We are on the 4th floor of the Ursula building in the LM section of AoA. I don't think there is anything that could fly through the window but that might be wishful thinking.

We're on a bottom floor at Carribean Beach. They are lining sandbags outside the rooms. So now I'm worried about projectiles through the windows AND room flooding.

i bet the resorts with interior hallways are the getting that stuff yet because it can be distributed if needed. who are they going to send in the height of a storm to go door to door on the exterior?

We are at POFQ. My brother was at beach club due to check out today but left with no where to go due to storm. He tried to book a room st beach club but they were full. He was able to snag a room here with us at pofq.

We planned ahead earlier this week when they first mentioned the storm and got a garden grocer order

We were able to walk to riverside this evening for dinner at bostrights. It was awesome.

The lines for the box lunches and hot food were ridiculous. it took 5 hrs for my niece to get box lunches and hot food. Thank goodness she is patient

There were characters in the lobby. Donald and Pluto. The cm's are really doing their best. Our flights home were cancelled for Saturday. First available flights are monday. We were all able to book additional nights without any issue.

We did get extra towels and a flashlight from mouse keeping.

Earlier this evening the manager was in the lobby attempting to answer guests questions.

We have been asked to stay in our rooms tomorrow until instructed otherwise.

So far it's not to bad. Stuck in Disney how can I complain about that. Lol

Anyone else here worried about projectiles coming through the windows in their rooms? I'm really scared about that.

I was wondering about this as well. Have pool furniture and balcony tables/chairs been removed at the resorts?

Thoughts and prayers with everybody down there.
