Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

So, Disney will lose power too? Why did I think they had back-up generators or something that would keep power going (at least on a limited basis)?

They have their own infrastructure and backup generators but there is no way they can power every single resort on reserve. It is possible the power will go out. However, I imagine Disney has their own crew to try and get the power back up as quickly as possible.

Yes, I agree that disney would have backup generators for critical infrastructure, but that would probably not be the resort rooms themselves. Probably just for emergency lights and such. And to how quickly, it would depend on where the faults occur. If its an outage within the Disney property, they would have their own crews and get it on quicker rather than later. However, the bulk of their power comes from higher voltage transmission lines from outside of the actual disney property, and if there are faults along there, it would be beyond Disney's control to get back on.

If you were at Fort Wilderness, in the pet section, there must be some place that would allow the guest and their pet. No way would I leave my pet alone ina motor home under these conditions! These are unusual circumstances. Rules are made to be broken. Put papers down in the bathroom!

Unfortunately, not all animals would go on the paper in the bathroom. I am sure a lot of them would soil the rugs in the rooms. Also, my husband is very allergic to fur and this is an issue for people who would be in the room next. Apparently there are kennels nearby Disney is advising pet owners to put their pets in.

Hiro,

I'm curious about those poor CM's who were going to have to work the wedding and other event you mentioned earlier on this thread. Will those events be canceled now that there's a curfew in effect? I certainly hope so, for the sake of the CMs

I hope everyone is now staying put. Despite all the warnings and curfew, there are always people that don't heed the warnings and get themselves in trouble. Mother Nature can be a wicked witch...

It is possible that because the beach club is all contained that they won't give them out until the power actually goes out.
I'm staying at pop. Have not been given flashlight or anything yet so it's not just the hotels with internal corridors that have nothing.
Luckily I brought a load of high quality glow sticks to use at parks at night so I should be fine. I also had garden grocer delivery on arrival so have plenty of drinks and snacks.
The food court was insane at 4 I took one look filled my mug and left.
Have to say we have had little to no info from the resort still told that they would use the message system on the phones to update us but it's not working.

Did you let them know your phone isn't working? I'd be more concerned about that right now than anything else.

Uncle's staying at the poly, they've got characters in the lobby he spotted goofy, captain hook and mr snee so far and arts and crafts for the kids

Nice. Glad to see Disney is trying to make the best of this situation.

p.s. it is wrong that my first reaction was to be jealous that there might be rare characters that I am missing?

The voicemail light has flashed again. Took a few times to get to the voicemail system

Old port royal is closing at 10pm till weather conditions improve for the safety of guests and cast members

We are at the POFQ and we had extra towels and a flashlight waiting when we returned. We have extended our stay by one night but just found out our flights are cancelled and we can't get out until Tues so on hold now with Disney to get another night if we can. The rate was discounted to $195 (not exact but ballpark). Food boxes are available but it's a madhouse down there and my dh has already been in line for 3 hours. We ordered in some snacks and drinks from Amazon Now. Our lights have flickered a few times but we still have power.

Wow, why not until Tuesday? Are all the flights already sold out, or are they only accommodating people starting Tuesday?

Stop listening to or trusting this news source. Fort Wilderness was evacuated to POLY and POP allstar X and other locations.

Wftv orlando. Anything better to be watching (serious question)? They just breezed through the update so it was probably oversimplified.
