Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

Watching from Canada. Sending prayers your way. I hope you all stay safe and this passes quickly.

I mean, if they can deliver flashlights and towels, they could have done this, too.

Did they actually do this??? We didn't get anything!!! I even tried to call housekeeping this morning to ask for extra towels but after 15 minutes I couldn't wait on hold...

We have plenty of glow sticks and I grabbed some of the extra large hand towels at the ceremonial house (along with forks, knives, spoons, and sugar!) so we will make it through I think but I wonder if they are treating DVC differently here??

Super heavy rain here but just light wind so far. 3-year old asleep in our bed, DH will join him later. Baby refused point blank to sleep in our room so he's in his crib in his room and I'll be sleeping on his floor (lucky me!) We have power so managed a hot dinner and watching Netflix. Laundry done, dishwasher run, things charged. Fingers crossed.

Scheduled to fly into MLB Sat. morning to stay a week at the Swan.

Worried about MLB opening back up on Sat, and the rental car situation at MLB. We are supposed to one way a rental to the Swan / Dolphin rental car center.

Playing it by ear to see if we need to move or cancel, depends on the damage. I don't want to be flying into a FEMA emergency on Sat.

Thanks! lol
First time staying at Caribbean Beach, and not a big fan and of course we are farthest building away possible, had so many issues with buses this week.
but now its really stinks bc of actually being in resort all day and if we go out we are trenched and then get to food court which is insanity and lines and packed to gills (which is worse then any park I ever seen).

I didn't even see any breakfast boxes, we got a lot of snacks and drinks to store in room, but guess didn't think it would be so crowded at dinner time. I just figured we would go back get dinner and some stuff for tomorrow, never expected the insanity... husband just went back to check out again and still insane.

And on top of this, we have a ton of credits on our food plan and since our original reservation ends tomorrow at midnight, apparently so dies our credits with it!!! and we are staying 2 more nights and tomorrow I don't even think our food court is supposed to be open.

prayers and safety to all!!!
Go back and use your credits to get large pizza that will last tomorrow and soda and water.

Anyone at a resort with an outside door, roll a towel very tight and wedge against the bottom of your door to prevent rain blowing into your room.

Thanks for the suggestion! I didn't even think of that.

We got a message that they are now showing Disney movies on the resort TV (channel 31). Probably for when the cable goes out again.

We did not get flashlights or anything at the beach club (not dvc)

I would think (or hope) that after the hurricane hits and if people are really stranded without access to food/water - Disney is not going to charge people for food and will step up to do the right thing.

Harsh to say, but at the point where it hadn't arrived yet, people did have the ability to go and get their own supplies, etc. I wouldn't expect free food items while it was still in my power to supply my own. That said, that price for that food box is ridiculous.

Fort Wilderness is empty. RV's have all been moved to the Magic Kingdom parking lot.
Ah! That's smart! I wondered how they dealt with that. How did I forget the acres and acres of parking lot? LOL!
The thought of some of those nice RVs getting damages was enough to make me ill.

Praying for everyone. The only place this storm could go that would be more distressing to me is here at home. My heart is with Florida and Disney tonight.

In the past they left a message on the phone saying if you needed a flashlight or extra towels get them before the storm. I seriously doubt they are treating DVC members differently. They are trying to do the best they can in a difficult situation while worrying about their own families and working with a reduced staff. I would not cast stones at any of them during this.

If you're there, charge everything now, my friends. Everything. Cell phones. Tablets. Mobile battery packs. If you're not using it, plug it in. When you're done using it, plug it in. Make sure everything is topped off. If you're at a value or moderate, or deluxe outbuilding (i.e. CR garden wing), and the power goes out during the room curfew, your cell-connected device may be your only source of storm and news updates temporarily. Especially since Matthew will arrive early in the morning, don't forget to charge tonight. And may there in the end be no reason for you to have done that. But better prepared than not!
YES and put the AC down so when power goes out you'll stay cool a little longer

It is possible that because the beach club is all contained that they won't give them out until the power actually goes out.
So, Disney will lose power too? Why did I think they had back-up generators or something that would keep power going (at least on a limited basis)?

Thanks! lol

I really believe Guest Services will accomodate you in extending your DDP credits to your next reservation. I would definitely ask.

We are right there with you on having to walk outside to get to our resort's food court. It's ponchos and RUN!

Yes very possible. There are also emergency generators for some lighting, hallways and such. Their system is underground, we did not lose power during Charley.
