Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

Oh believe me you are correct. During Charley, many grabbed 10 boxes or more and ran. It was like looting, CM were pushed down, guests were pushed down. So in a way I can see making them this expensive. It cuts down on the mob mentality.

So, they could have delivered a care box per person to each room (all shelf-stable stuff) during Mousekeeping today - no raids, no mobs, and no insane lines. It would have required Disney to probably prep 12 hours earlier and maybe have closed their parks earlier to free up the personnel, but it was totally doable.

I mean, if they can deliver flashlights and towels, they could have done this, too.

If you're there, charge everything now, my friends. Everything. Cell phones. Tablets. Mobile battery packs. If you're not using it, plug it in. When you're done using it, plug it in. Make sure everything is topped off. If you're at a value or moderate, or deluxe outbuilding (i.e. CR garden wing), and the power goes out during the room curfew, your cell-connected device may be your only source of storm and news updates temporarily. Especially since Matthew will arrive early in the morning, don't forget to charge tonight. And may there in the end be no reason for you to have done that. But better prepared than not!

Especially for locals, any thoughts on us arriving no later than around 9am? It kills me to think of not getting there til Saturday night or even later:sad: It can't be helped and safety is top priority. But we've been looking so forward to this for a year...

Do not under any circumstances drive into this tomorrow! Seriously. I completely understand that you've been looking forward to this for a year, but it is NOT worth risking your family's safety!

I'm about to rant on a non-WDW tangent after seeing this. Please skip if you don't care, but I can't post this on other social media for fear of it being read by the person I'm fuming about.

My 70 YO MIL and her 80+ YO husband live in Jensen Beach (it's near St Lucie) in a condo. Not only have they decided to stay put even though he has family on the W Coast. But, they didn't even have the storm shutters put on the windows. The maintenance guy made it to their condo at 9 pm last night and told them they didn't really need them, because the other buildings will block most of the wind. He was probably tired and ready to get home, and they bought his story to avoid paying the extra $$ for the service call. They haven't lived in FL long, and this is their first hurricane. They just aren't taking it seriously. They lost power around 6:30 while she was on the phone with my husband. He asked if she had a backup battery for her phone, and she said she would just go to her car to charge her phone if it didn't come back on. I just texted her to tell her she wouldn't get power for close to a week more than likely, and she said she would go to her gym to shower. Her level of naïveté is astounding and completely frustrating.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Everyone at WDW stay safe and just remember this is a story you will be telling your family for years. That was my outlook when I was sleeping on a cot in my company's ops center for 9 days during Ike.
It really baffles me how people do not take things like this seriously, an average hurricane gives off an atomic bomb's worth of energy every second. If bombs were going off every second would people be calm and relaxed and brush it off like its no big deal?

Everyone there, stay safe and I hope you can still make the best of your vacation. I think it's really crappy how much they're charging for the boxed meals. I get not giving them away, but when they have people literally trapped there (reliant on Disney transportation) that's not cool at all. I'm pretty disappointed in that decision. Hope Disney Magic and pixie dust allow everything to be back up and running quickly!!

I don't know...there would have been quite the hubbub if the parks closed while the weather was still decent. Could you imagine?

I think the price could have been cheaper.

Aww, I'd give you my m&ms if I could

It's hard for the resorts that don't have multiple cafes/restaurants choices.

Capt Cook's line appeared long, but only 1/2 hr or so long. Guests also had Ohana, Kona, and the Sushi counter.

Thanks! lol
First time staying at Caribbean Beach, and not a big fan and of course we are farthest building away possible, had so many issues with buses this week.
but now its really stinks bc of actually being in resort all day and if we go out we are trenched and then get to food court which is insanity and lines and packed to gills (which is worse then any park I ever seen).

I didn't even see any breakfast boxes, we got a lot of snacks and drinks to store in room, but guess didn't think it would be so crowded at dinner time. I just figured we would go back get dinner and some stuff for tomorrow, never expected the insanity... husband just went back to check out again and still insane.

And on top of this, we have a ton of credits on our food plan and since our original reservation ends tomorrow at midnight, apparently so dies our credits with it!!! and we are staying 2 more nights and tomorrow I don't even think our food court is supposed to be open.

prayers and safety to all!!!

Someone up thread said they gave away the meals for free during the last hurricane and people took more than their share. Maybe they had to charge this time to make sure there would be enough to go around.
Never heard of anyone taking more than their share. They didn't run out at ASMo.

Thanks! lol

meal credits can be turned into snack credits so maybe they'll let you use them when they open up the food courts again

I get what your saying I have family that are in Melbourne and I can't believe they didn't go to family on the west side of FL... we have two dogs and 4 cats (one is a stray kitten we found and we haven't gotten her to a vet yet) we can't go to a pet friendly shelters... so that's why we didn't go anywhere... but no one in on our st is going anywhere.... we're only 27 mi from Daytona beach and new Smymar beach... I am sorry that your in laws didn't go to family....

Yes, when we were getting our October snow storm that knocked power out for a week I bought these lanterns from the dollar store. They were fantastic because I had small kids and didn't have to worry about candles. We each had one and we could leave it on a table and light up the room or carry it with us wherever we went. I felt like that scene from Scrooge when he carries the lantern up to bed but I loved those things. I used them again the following August when we got hit with the outskirts of a hurricane and lost power again for a couple of days. Just had to be sure I checked the batteries and we were good to go!

I have that pumpkin one right on my laptop table now. These lanterns are great!

I have to disagree. It is a bit different in getting flashlights and towels to people, and something else delivering perishable items. People had enough time to prepare for this storm, there is no reason to even have to buy those boxes. We went through 3 at Disney and never bought the prepared box.

Lines are way down at all star sports. Now.

They will extend room stays for tomorrow ... or at least try and Saturday. Beyond that you have to wait.

I extended to Sunday hoping to hit the parks Saturday.
