Hurricane Frances looking bad

It looks like Florida may be affected but it doesn't look like it will directly hit there:rolleyes: Not that i can read those stupid things. I guess i'm just wishful thinking::yes:: Were landing Friday afternoon so i guess we will see then:(

Wish us all luck

We were there during Hurricanes Hugo and Andrew, - two of the worst to have hit Florida in recent times.

Although hurricanes are part of Florida's weather system at this time of year, most of them seem to leave the Disney area alone.

I may be wrong, but I seem to remember reading that Disneyworld has only closed twice due to hurricanes since it was built. - Floyd in 1999 and now recently during Charley.
Can anyone back this up?
Steve.

yep, i've read that also.
That they have only had to close wdw twice...
Jeanette:wave:

We arrived home yesterday, after survining Charley, she passed almost straight over us, and the villa we stayed in had no power for 5 days, I hope and pray that Frances changes course, as the devistation in parts of Kissimmee and Orlando is terrible, on the first couple of days we had to go into the theme parks to eat as most of the places around the 192 weren't open and those that were , were packed out, keeping my fingers crossed for Florida!!!

im sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo worried about these hurricanes. what a nightmare. does anyone know how many usually hit florida in one hurricane season? it is like just a couple or is it one a week or something?

love

lucy

according to all the news reports they don't hit central florida very often, I bought a boook about Charley whilst at the Airport and will look this up for you and let you know, still suffering jet lag and can't remember were I put the book. lol.

Latest update is still showing that it will more than likely hit land on the United States over Labour day weekend, here is copy of an extract from the weather site.

"as displayed on this graphic, a landfall in the United States next weekend is appearing more and more certain. Though the storm was downgraded due to its encounter with some stronger winds aloft, Frances will continue to move over very warm water and significant weakening is not expected. Please stay tuned to AccuWeather.com for more information on this storm as it makes its journey west."

Just have to keep our fingers crossed, but I must admit that I am more than a little concerned. Just spoke to some friends in Florida and the overall feeling is not good.

Hey, guys! The news over here is saying that Frances will most likely make landfall at Melbourne and track over Orlando. They are saying it will make landfall about 2pm on Saturday. They are telling people to start preparing for the worst. They are saying that Frances could very likely be worse for Orlando than Charley because it will make landfall closer and it is a larger storm. This is not good news for all of the people here who still have roof damage or worse from Charley. Since Frances is still several days out, it could turn and hit anywhere between Miami and North Carolina. If you are planning on visiting this weekend, keep a close eye on the news reports.

Thanks for the update. Its great that you come and tell us all the latest news:Pinkbounc Were flying out on friday landing at 2:30 so i think it will be straight to the villa to drop off the cases and then off to the shops to get some food and drink in. What things do you have to buy?

Thanks michelle

I know there are alot of variables to take into consideration with the projected path of these hurricanes, but things are not improving. I know it's only a holiday for us folks, but I really feel for the Floridians. They have only just had Charley and now Frances is looming and looking very threatening. Our holidays can be cancelled but these people can't escape it.
With that in mind, I dont know how we stand if it is cancelled, I think because it would be 'an act of God', the companies wouldn't have to give any refunds. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Latest predicted tracks from the weather models for Frances...

storm_06.gif

As you can see from this all the models are predicting a turn to the north later this week. The critical factor for Florida is when this turn to the north occurrs.

Here is the latest graphic from the US National Hurricane center, that last part of that predicted part looks smack bang on Orlando:eek:

I really hope it turns away from Florida. I have a friend there at the moment. He owns a house in Orlando and is out there for 2 weeks fixing the damage done by Charley. He lost 75% of his roof tiles and had major water and electrical damage which he has 2 weeks to repare and redecorate before he has to come back to England for work. I dread to think what would happen if his roof is not fixed and another huricane hits.

If the hurrican is due to arrive during saturday night and early hours of sunday morning, then do you think that the airlines will still fly people out on saturday to arrive saturday afternoon?

If Frances still looks likely to be heading for Florida on Thursday then anyone flying in over the weekend should check with their airline prior to check-in and find out what the airline suggests that they do.

When Charley hit I understand that MCO took some damage that resulted in flights being delayed for a couple of days. Virgin, for example, posted the information on their website giving passengers the details of the affected flights and the details of the new flights.

There is still a great deal of uncertainty regarding where Frances will make landfall. A turn to the North has been forcast but has yet to happen, the longer it continues on it's current westward track the greater the probability of a Florida strike becomes.

It's a 'wait and see' on this one at the moment.

Well it seems like it has turned slightly more to the NW, lets hope it still keeps turning. It looks a little better than it did earlier as shown below
