Hurrican Wilma - Should I Cancel?

We're heading down Friday and not planning on cancelling yet, unless the airline does it for us.

Northwest posted this on their website:

Weather Waiver for Hurricane Wilma
Updated 10/19/05 - 5:00 p.m. CDT
Northwest Airlines has issued a weather waiver to assist customers whose travel plans may be impacted by Hurricane Wilma. This waiver applies to passengers with confirmed tickets issued on/before October 19, 2005 for travel October 19 through October 23, 2005 to, from or through the following cities:
Florida
Fort Lauderdale (FLL)
Fort Myers (RSW)
Key West (EYW)
Miami (MIA)
Orlando (MCO)
Tampa (TPA)
West Palm Beach (PBI)
Mexico
Cancun (CUN)
Passengers may reschedule their travel to be completed on or before November 12, 2005 to/from the same origin and destination without penalty or administrative change fees, subject to availability.

You'll notice, Orlando is listed. We are flying down Friday afternoon and may try to reconfirm on an earlier flight if that seems necessary or extend our trip if we lose too many days for weather. I also have family living in Orlando in the event of any problems. I think I may pack a flashlight/batteries and some extra cash, just in case. Hopefully we'll have a better sense of the storm track soon, so people can really make informed decisions. But, I'm not ready to dump a $3000+ vacation that I can't get back until I know more information.

I'm not sure if I would cancel or not. Just remember to keep in your prayers all of those living in Southwest Florida (and those STILL suffering in Lousiana and Georgei). We have a place in Fort Myers, and I'll tell you, many, many places in and around us still have not recovered from the hurricanes 14 months ago. I hope everyone who will be going to WDW will have an enjoyable, uneventful and very safe trip.

I would keep eyeballing the weather reports. As it looks now there's almost a 100% chance that the weather is going to be affected in one way or another. Hopefully it'll just rain for one day and that will give you a chance to go to Disney Quest or do something indoors. At a category 2 or above i would definetly not jeopardize my family by taking the trip and putting my family close to the path of a hurricane. Growing up along the Gulf Coast i've seen too many storms come through and have seen the destruction they leave behind.

I wish you all the best of luck and hope that the major effects of the hurricane stay well south of Orlando. :wizard:

At this point it is looking more and more like a south FL storm. I don't think Orlando is going to have much impact if any at all from Wilma except some rain and wind.

However since the train is originating in South FL you will need to check with them to see if they will be running over the weekend as I know Amtrak has suspended some services over the weekend for trains commuting from the Northeast to FL, so you may have difficulty getting back to FL on Sun. or Mon. since the storm is NOW expected to move through then.

I am relieved to hear that as we are coming in on Sunday at noon but I am feeling bad for being relieved because I worry about everyone in Wilma's path. I will say a prayer it goes farther south.

Tthis will be my first trip to WDW and I wouldn't want to be in the middle of a storm and risk some of the rides being closed. Should I reschedule?

Most of the rides are indoors so you won't have much of a problem in that aspect.

Friday 5:30 AM--they still have no real idea on where--or, as important, when- Wilma will strike Florida.
