Hunnyjar's asking more questions..

We had not stayed there before we bought. They were selling BLT, AKV and SSR/Treehouses when we decided to buy. Chose BLT primarily for location and lower MFs. We did not know about resale. Still, don't regret our purchase.

After reading so many positive things about all the different DVCs makes me feel a lot better about the whole process. After this experience could you see yourself making another DVC contract purchase?

I think the wear and tear is highlighted by the colors in the general decor. The sofa is a putty color with yellow throw pillows for instance. Sleek lines and hard edges have some dings and dents. I have only stayed there once for a week in a 2 bedroom. We LOVED it. The only real damage we encountered was it looked like someone had taken a ball peen hammer to the front of the stainless fridge, 3 dents in a row. The glass backsplash in the kitchen had some cracks, looks like they came from behind the outlet plates, like someone had tightened the screws too tight. Big long scratch on the dining table. These things in no way diminished our enjoyment of the villa. Our daughter and her husband were staying in a 1 bedroom and their villa was pristine.

I think the reason AKV seems to be holding up so much better is because all the finishes are already distressed looking. Darker fabrics with so much more texture, darker paint on the walls, black appliances, it all just blends together beautifully, damage just doesn't stand out like at BLT.

We are due to go back to BLT in October. Can't wait!!

October will be here before you know it and I'm sure your trip will be wonderful! :goodvibes

That's a good point about the differences between AKV and BLT! I'm sure both are equally lovely, though. I think we'd be happy visiting either location.

I really appreciate getting all these different views.

:rotfl: Oh yeah. Just signed closing papers on a 160 point contract for BCV. We tried earlier this year to buy a contract at SSR and went all through the process but the sellers wouldn't sign the final papers so we had to start all over again. I think BCV is better for us even though is was more expensive. We love SSR but you don't really need the 11 month booking advantage there.

If you're not particularly picky about where you stay try to get the best deal. That would probably be SSR. Great combination of resale price and low MFs. SSR is going through a refurb right now and don't forget you can use SSR points to stay at all of the other resorts at 7 months.

The location is the biggest draw for the BLT for us. It would be truly amazing to wake up with the Cinderella Castle as one of the first things you see in the morning (provided you pay for the MK view) - The high rise hotel feel is one of the things we like least about it. We take one vacation a year so we like to try to surround ourselves in our vacation. The hustle and bustle of the Contemporary is a little worrisome. Having said that the rooms are lovely and we like the thought of having all the other monorail restaurants at our fingertips.

Personally I wouldn't spend the extra points on a MK view as some aren't that impressive but the lake is beautiful and in a few seconds you are in CR and in the heart of the action again!:cool1:

Keep in mind that the quieter times at WDW tend to be the busy times at DVC (except for obvious exceptions like Thankgiving) due to the emptier parks and lower points.

Is Thanksgiving one of the busiest times of the year for DVC?

Yes, it is. IMO, it comes in right after Christmas week (incl NY) and Easter. Plan to book your home resort at 11months and then if you prefer another resort for that trip, try to switch right at 7 months.
