Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

I think all accents are interesting ... really. I'm always fascinated and a little amused by the dialects and accents just here in the US.

Let me know if you aren't able to find a spudtrooper for your son - Jay and I will look for one in October and send it your way. :goodvibes

Got to admit... I've never had that Joisey accent or a NY one either... actually I'm picking up my upstate NY accent, but only on occasion... freaks the family out...

I can look for the pin in a couple of weeks if you want me to... let me know...

OMG loving all the minging (we add a g in England :rotfl2:) chat that you and Kirsteen were having :lmao: I would love to hear you saying it in a sentance :rotfl:

Love the bracelet, so pretty :)

Jo!!! :yay:

I thought you'd left forever ... not that I could blame you because I think these reviews are going on forever. :rotfl2: But still, it's good to see you here!

I was totally convinced that it was pronounced min-gin (so that min rhymed with gin) until she corrected me. If you'd heard me saying it you probably would have laughed yourself silly. :goodvibes

Thanks for popping back in! :flower3:

I have that accentless midwest accent ... we all talk through our noses and call our aunts ants. :rotfl2:

I'll check with Jusmom on the pin and let you know - thanks!!

Monday, October 22nd - ESPN Club ... I Miss the Good Old Days of Tuna and Beer.

We've reached the 7th day of our vacation and it's still ungodly hot and Jay's still got a schizophrenic digestive system. By this point I let him call the shots, figuring that he knew best what he could, pardon the pun, stomach doing. :rotfl2:

Since Monday was a morning EMH at the Animal Kingdom we decided, once Jay's tummy accepted some coffee and croissants, that we would brave the sultry African heat of central Florida and visit the animals. We lucked out and made it to Expedition Everest with minimal wait time - we just love this ride. It's so much fun! But whooooooo-eeeeeeeee, was the park crowded again! Jay and I were over at the Safari by 9:30AM and the stand-by wait was an hour and the FastPass return was noon. What gives???

Fine, Animal Kingdom, be that way. We'll do that jungle trek and some other stuff and go ride Dinosaur and then we'll go find something to eat because it's getting close to lunchtime in St. Louis (11AM) and the parasitic tummy-twin is getting hungry again.

But before we go ... take our pitcure, would ya?

Now that's a vacation picture!!
620.jpg

I love this picture ... such healthy color; such relaxed smiles; such not anywhere near Stinktown! :lmao:

While enjoying a nice air conditioned ride back to the Beach Club on a relatively empty and blissfully quiet bus, Jay and I tried to figure out the best choice for lunch. We were supposed to have dinner at California Grill that night so we didn't want to stuff ourselves at midday. And it was an extremely hot day, so the thought of eating too much or even eating outdoors was distinctly unappealing. We wanted decent food served in a dark, frigid environment ... and thus found ourselves at the front doors to the ESPN Club on the Boardwalk.

Now, I must tell you all that I used to love the ESPN Club.

Used to.

You've probably guessed by now that Jay and I prefer to visit Florida in October and as all you baseball fans know, that's playoff and world series time! Ah, the fond memories we have of watching the 2004 NLCS against Houston ... wearing butt grooves in the chairs ... drinking Killians to excess ... dancing in the middle of ESPN's "dining room" when the Cardinals clinched game 7 to advance to the World Series ... going to MNSSHP on a beery/baseball high ... eating tuna pitas for dinner three nights in a row ... watching hockey games at the bar ... I could go on but if I do I'll start weeping like a hormonal, middle-aged baby. Suffice to say, we used to spend a lot of time at the ESPN Club and I never minded that much because I really enjoy baseball and they used to have the best freaking tuna sandwich I ever ate at WDW:

**Cue Celestial Choir**

The Tuna Pita. :worship:

A fresh, warm pita pocket stuffed with ESPN's tuna salad, which was never too filled with stuff and never had too much mayonnaise. I always ordered mine with fresh fruit on the side and washed it down with beer, and a little water. I could have eaten that for lunch or dinner every day and been perfectly satisfied with my lot in life. But some soulless marketing genius in the food and beverage department decided that ESPN needed to revitalize and update its menu. So much to my chagrin in October 2006, during our Cardinals' unlikely and amazing post-season run, I discovered that my tuna pita was no longer being offered.

To quote Roman Moronie from the movie Johnny Dangerously, "You fargin iceholes."

And now here I was, twelve months later struggling to find something to order from their "new and improved" menu most of which sounded pretty revolting to me. The only thing I could do to ease the decision making process was to buy myself a drink.

Behold ... the Tailgater!
485.jpg

This was a refreshingly tasty drink, described on the menu as Southern Lemonade with Bourbon, Triple Sec, Lemon, and a splash of Sprite. I suppose I should have asked the bartender what the difference is supposed to be between "southern" lemonade and the lemonade that the rest of us drink in the United States. My deepest hope is that they didn't make it using Country Time Lemonade, because the last time I checked there were no lemons in Country Time. :rotfl2:

So what's for eating? There was little choice for me ... I ordered The Home Run Hot Dog.

Yes, this dog is also nekkid, except for the artistic mustard swirls added by yours truly.
487.jpg

This dog is actually supposed to be served with chili, shredded cheddar cheese, and chopped onion. BLECH!!!!! :scared: Now you know why I ordered it au naturale.

This was not a great hot dog, but I think that's because this was actually a really long, greasy, sausage that had been fried on the grill rather than an actual hot dog which we all know is some kind of intestinal wrapper stuffed with pulverized chicken feet, rat tails, and the random human finger and which reaches peak flavor after being boiled in dirty dishwater for three days. ;)

I only ate about half of the dog, but did put a pretty good dent in the fries, which were light and crispy and lightly dusted with salt. Adding cheap yellow mustard only improved the taste!

Jay was feeling brave and decided to take his tummy on a test run by ordering the Upper Deck Hot Roast Beef and Cheese. This sandwich is described as follows on ESPN's menu: thinly sliced roast beef topped with melted Swiss cheese on a freshly baked roll, and served with cucumber salad or fries.

Grimace might call this a Philly Cheesesteak ...
488.jpg

That was one hungry hubba because he ate every morsel and declared it "the most delicious sandwich I've eaten all day." :thumbsup2

My overall reaction to ESPN was "eh." I miss my tuna pita...and I am apparently not the only one. Our bartender told us that she gets requests and complaints daily about the missing sandwich but said that unless we flood the mental giants who run the company with email requesting its return, our beloved tuna will never be heard from again. So who's up for an email campaign??? :yay:

Before I close out for the night, I wanted to share something funny with you all. Well, Jay and I think it's funny ... you may just be annoyed at me for taking up valuable food space with more silliness. If you recall, some days earlier in our trip (the 17th actually) we had spent the morning at the Magic Kingdom where we were lucky enough to win Dream Fastpasses.

For some reason shortly after we won, we decided to stop and have our picture taken with Stitch and had the brillaint idea to bring Plankton into the mix. Although we've never seen Lilo and Stitch, we think the character of Stitch is kind of funny when he's not just being annoying as all get out.

I wish we had the whole series of pictures from Photopass because the CM playing Stitch was an absolute riot when we handed Plankton over, sniffing him...turning him upside down...shaking him...and finally turning to both Jay and me and shrugging as if to say, "What the hell is this???" :lmao:

Try not to look too closely at me in these pictures ... I've got the dork-o-meter running on high. ;)

626-1.jpg

625.jpg

I think that second picture could have made a great Holiday greeting card. :lmao:

That's it for this segment; coming up next ... more food and wine festival booths and more room sevice because I really can be an enormous pig!

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Thanks for the mahvellous update Bendy :thumbsup2 I'm sorry the Disney food Gods did not smile on you that afternoon, I hate it when they take something fabulous away  I still miss breakfast with my Pooh friends at Wilderness Lodge :guilty:

And I know you dinna likey that hot dog, but it sure looked YUMM-EEEEEE!!! :rolleyes1 And those fries, heavenlicious :cloud9:

Now I am STARVING :scared: Crap, I shoudn't read your reviews this late at night

I love those pics. You guys look like you're having a blast. and you know how I feel about Plankton pics. ;) Thanks for another great update!

People know EE is the place to be. I expect the same to happen to me when I try to ride the Subs at DL, sans the FastPass advantage.
I just feel gypped because I had the "defective" Yeti on my one and only ride on Everest. Strobe-light and no movement. It's Plan B or something.

Fine, Animal Kingdom, be that way. We'll do that jungle trek and some other stuff and go ride Dinosaur and then we'll go find something to eat because it's getting close to lunchtime in St. Louis (11AM) and the parasitic tummy-twin is getting hungry again.

Ooh, fake scenery! Very pretty! :thumbsup2 And I have absolutely no problem "waiting" on a FastPass by actually doing other stuff! ;)

OOH! I found a California Grill tease hidden in there!
And I've never eaten at ESPN Club. I've used their bathrooms, though. Nice TV viewing areas, that.

Did someone say, "Killian's"?? <perk> Love that beer. It was a very good beer... Ahem.

Ah. Good times. I guess. Although I have to admit the tuna pita sounds fabulous. I got my tuna fix with the Anchors Aweigh at CHH, so I was happy. When I find a really good tuna sandwich (like on a croisssant!), I would eat that every day. The good "white albacore" tuna. Mmmm.

To quote Roman Moronie from the movie Johnny Dangerously, "You fargin iceholes."

OMG! Shut up! I love that movie! Except for me, I always use the quote about those "fargin' bastages". Hmm, I met Brenda and Jay once.......ONCE! :rotfl2:

So what's for eating? There was little choice for me ... I ordered The Home Run Hot Dog.

Since you painted such a pretty picture there :crazy2: , I think we are destined for......Duelling Wursts!! I already posted the pic from my report with the Germany sausage kiosk. Should I have posted here my Beaches and Cream hot dog here, too? I didn't post my No Way José (with José's face in it), even though you had one of those, too. Heheheh. Ok, I gave you some pun-worthy material. I hope you can do me proud.

Holy crap. I totally could have gone for one of those beefy sandwiches tonight. Drool. That looks mighty tasty.

Oh those Stitch photos rock! The second one with the jaunty leg. That's a keeper! I can totally picture Stitch thinking, "WTH?" I bet Chip and Dale would have a field day with him, playing "keep away" from you. Heh.

You shoulda asked for "all beef", cuz you just know it REALLY is "all beef". :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

What's next...the chicken fingers??? Oh wait, that's already been done. :sad2:

We lucked out and made it to Expedition Everest with minimal wait time - we just love this ride. It's so much fun!

LOVE EE! In fact, just to show you what a complete Disney dork I am, we had a trip planned shortly before EE opened. All the reservations are in place, and lo and behold, I get an e-mail that AP holders and DVC members (which we happened to be both at the time:woohoo: ) would get a special EE preview -- ONE DAY BEFORE OUR ARRIVAL! Oh, that just wouldn't do, so I promptly changed our flight and added a day at Pop Century just so we could be one of the first to experience EE. And yes, it was totally worth it!:thumbsup2

We were supposed to have dinner at California Grill that night so we didn't want to stuff ourselves at midday.

Ooohh, looking forward to that review!

If it had been a "real" hot dog, I think I would have liked it with the chili and cheese, skip the onion. But I agree, it really doesn't look like a "real" hot dog!

Yes, it would!!

Professor Ludwig Von Drake has to chime in here....

How about the best of ALL worlds?
100% Kobe Beef Hot Dog
Kobe%20Dog.jpg

In the form of an all-natural Kobe Beef hot dog from chef David Burke’s Bloomingdale’s outpost, Burke In a Box. The dog itself is enormous, more like a fat German brat than a Sabrett. But the deep red innards and the crisp and chewy encasing were all hot dog, highlighted by a lingering beefy after taste absent at the ball park. Somewhere inside was mustard oil and “angry onion jam,” and on top a mound of deliciously soggy, thinly sliced onion rings.**

Doesn't THAT just look YUMMY? Anyone from the Northeast want to go with the K-Man and I to a Disney on Broadway show and an "exploratory" tasting of David Burke's establishment?

**I found the information on the Kobe Beef Hot Dog on http://cleanplateclubnyc.com/

Wow. That ain't no Chicago style dog, that's for sure. It looks good, though.

Brenda, your drink is called Lynchburg Lemonade 'round here, b/c of our famous friend, Jack Daniels. I've also seen it as a Tennessee Twister on menus. Very yummy, whatever you call it.

Yeah, I don't know about the hot dog since I watched that BBC show a few months ago about what's really in your food. You forgot the snouts and ears. :snooty: (That's as close as I could find to a snout smilie...)

I love the pic of you guys at EE--when did you get so tan all of a sudden on this trip? :beach: That reminds me, I meant to go to Target today for the Jergens natural glow lotion. It's 70 degrees here today and capri season is just around the corner! Remember, tan fat looks better than white fat!:teacher:

Ah! I too have fond memories of the 2004 World Series...watching my beloved Red Sox beat the Cardinals in 4, thus officially breaking the curse! Hopefully I can find something on the menu worth enjoying in June. Worst comes to worst...I will drink my way through the Sox game that evening! :rotfl:

Well, this was a timely installment, Brenda -- I was at Opening Day yesterday at Dodger Stadium enjoying a Dodger Dog and some screw-top mini-bottles of wine...And here you bring up baseball and hot dogs in one update!

I really wish my dog had looked like the Kobe Dog, though...

:worship: Indeed!

So I am trying to catch-up here, going backwards...your review is really getting me psyched for our upcoming trip. Thanks! :yay:

And, although I haven't been around lately, I mentally sent good thoughts and prayers your way during your spell of rain...hope things have settled down out there. :grouphug:

So sorry about the tuna. Where do I send my email for ya? I so love the Stitch pictures. I am happy to say that I enjoy the characters very much and had a bad experience with eeyore a couple of years ago when he wouldn't take his picture with me and actually ignored me. I wish that person knew that us adults aka big kids like them too.

Laura

Jo!!! :yay:

I thought you'd left forever ... not that I could blame you because I think these reviews are going on forever. :rotfl2: But still, it's good to see you here!
Awwww thanks for the welcome back, I have been reading but I couldn't keep up with all the ummmm replies/chat :rotfl2:

Now that's a vacation picture!!

What a beautiful photo and OMG that beef sandwich looked yummy :cloud9:

What a shame that they took away your favorite tuna sandwich!!! The hot dog doesn't look all that appetizing:confused3 I loved the pictures of you both with Stitch and Plankton. It's definitely a classic!;) Hurry back with more. I can't wait to hear about your evening at Cali Grill:woohoo:
