Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

Poor Jay, I am so worried about hearing about his virus. We ate at Kona for breakfast a few days previous to you and the podium was crazy then too. I am now very glad that we steered clear of the coffee and tonga toast!

Laur's princess:

Just had to share a little Vegas excitement ...

We have two dinner reservations booked so far:

Alize' which is located on the top floor of The Palms hotel and which offers a 7-course tasting menu (yum!) and Isla Mexican Kitchen located at Treasure Island. Isla has a Tequila Bar ... take that Epcot!! :lmao:

I am very much looking forward to the blog :thumbsup2

Your update reminded me......guess what I did today? Made my ADRs for dinner at Jiko AND breakfast at Kona during our mini-stay! Wheeeeee!

Which also reminds me, I should probably make Yak and Yeti ADRs for lunch at AK. Hmm.

I hope Kona isn't becoming too popular for its own good!:scared1: I used to love that you could basically walk up most of the time and get a table within a few minutes. Looks like those days may be gone.

I really do think some of it had to do with all the convention / golf traffic that week. But having said that ... we noticed WDW was much busier this Ocotber than we've ever seen it before. I've been hearing more and more about Fall breaks from school for kids? :confused3 So they start school at Labor Day ... have a weeklong break in October ... another break at Thanksgiving ... another break at Christmas ... another break at Spring / Easter ... and the summer vacation starts at Memorial Day ... is that right?

What a life ... when I was in school we started in the middle of August ... had a three-day weekend in October for teachers' meetings, a four-day weekend at Thanksgiving, a week at Christmas and a week at Easter. And the school-year didn't end until the middle of June.

Now don't I sound like a crotchety old timer? :lmao:

Tonga Toast is just fine the way it is, thank you very much!! It's so sweet alone I doubt I could add anything to it. I'm glad Jay enjoyed it, but I don't like the sound of the direction this is taking! Do I see illness in your future?

Jay says the tonga toast is better without the sauce, too. And we're not sure if the sauce made him sick or if something else happened. So we're blaming Norway with a side order of sauce. ;)

(With my best Homer Simpson drool) Ummmmmm, Tonga Toast!

Homer is da man! Apart from his patented "moon waffle" there's nothing he likes better for breakfast than tonga toast!

Love it!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Glad you like Plankton's great grandfather!

Hey Brenda, We've haven't left, we've just been lurking.:surfweb: Your trippie has been fantastic.:goodvibes as usual! :thumbsup2 Our trip isn't until next year.:sad2: But the good news is we're going on the Podcast cruise (Wonder 5/10/09) and then for our usual 2 weeks at WDW in 8/09 at which time we will become DVC members.:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

It's so good to see you posting here again! Thanks for letting me know you're still around - I was getting worried about you. Sounds like you have a great year lined up for 2009 ... a cruise and a WDW trip .... and a DVC ownership!! Woohoo!! I'll be looking for your reviews by then because Jay and I will be all tapped out.

Great idea! Thanks Brenda! :goodvibes

My pleasure - just be sure to let me know what you think once you try it!

So, is it technically "lurking" if you just discovered this thread a week ago, and it took you that whole time just to get through it all (although, I confess to skimming through much of it)?

Not at all - lurking is usually defined as someone who reads along but never posts. I've been known to do it myself. And I know this thread is very long for food reviews - that's why I post the specific review links on my very first post on the thread so people can skip all the inbetween stuff if they want to. Hopefully that helps a little.

But ... the inbetween stuff is fun! There are a lot of nice, funny, clever folks hanging out here and they post things that usually make me snort coffee at all hours. :lmao:

I have SO enjoyed this thread! You hooked me on the first page when you wrote that you plan vacations because it's what gets you through the daily grind (me too!), and your DH's philosophy that life it too short to eat bad food or drink bad booze (completely agree). But, you really had me with the mention of the "salmon mousse" (in my opinion, the most underrated Monty Python movie).

Looking forward to reading more, although I'm getting nervous to read about "the VIRUS." On our last trip 4 years ago, then 2 year old DD got it on the last morning. She threw up in the room, in the car (we had not even driven off the property yet, we pulled over on the grass and cleaned her up by the "See You Real Soon" sign) and then again on the airplane.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post to let us know that you've enjoyed it so far - we try to make our reviews fun and informative. To be honest, we have a hoot reliving the trip through food and drink.

Your poor little DD ... that's no way to end a WDW vacation. I think I've figured out how to describe what happened to Jay without getting too graphic... if all goes well the next update will be tomorrow night.

And yes ... my all-time favorite Monthy Python movie is The Meaning of Life, followed very closely by Search for the Holy Grail. :thumbsup2

Let us know about your blog. I want to go to Vegas for our 20 year anniversary in 2009. I've never been, but DH has been there multiple times. He doesn't want to go, he feels it isn't "romantic enough." What rot! He just has never been there with me!

Thanks for your efforts!

The blog set-up is in process right now and I've got some friends helping me test a few features. It's nothing fancy ... I used Blogs for Dummies to set it up, but it will do the trick nicely I think until I get my cyber-legs under me.

Once it's ready to go I'll post something here so I can issue invites to people who really want access.

Laur's princess:

Thanks so much ... That Friday afternoon and night were the worst, but I just hated to watch him go through it. He never gets sick while the last 4 trips we took prior to this one I was constantly battling exploding ovarian cysts and post-surgical issues and I was pain-pill popping like a crazy woman so that we could still have a vacation. Now I think I know how he must have felt watching me tough it out all the time. :sad2:

Anyhoo, thanks everyone for reading and posting. And thanks, too, to anyone who may be lurking. Please don't be afraid to post if you are so inclined ... I really try to respond to everyone because I know you could be spending your time somewhere else and I do appreciate that you stop here to read our taste travels. :flower3:

If the weather cooperates I'll be updating with the Le Cellier Food & Wine Pairing a/k/a A Passage from the Book of Puke tomorrow evening. Until then, stay warm and be safe!

I am very much looking forward to the blog :thumbsup2

Thanks ma'am - once I'm ready to share with the food-lovers of the world I'll be sure to let you know it's open for business!

Squeeeeee! Erica and Lionel are goin' to Jiko! And Kona! :woohoo: Does this mean we can look forward to a new trippie? :worship:

I can't wait to hear what you think of Jiko ... I hope you'll enjoy it... I'm sure you will! :thumbsup2

BTW, can I just say ... on a visceral level I don't think I can ever bring myself to eat at restaurant whose name includes the word "yak." :rotfl2:

Lurking and loving every word!! Glad everyone survived the storms in the south - we are freezing to death here in the northland!

Looking forward to your next adventure!

Yak & Gacky.... (Sorry Erica... it was well meant...I'm sure the food is WONDERFUL!!!)

I'm sorry but I just realized that today is Tuesday and that means that the Biggest Loser is on tonight and I won't be updating because I'll be watching that instead. I got my days all mixed up because Jay is working late tonight instead of tomorrow ... :headache:

OK ... I'll try to update on Wednesday night - that should work as long as I don't have to bring anything home from the office. Keep your fingers crossed! :goodvibes

"Actually I'd just like to see something new ... I'm a little tired of the whole Lilo and Stitch thing. And I really don't understand why Stitch seems to be everywhere these days. He's a cute character in his way, but please ... Disney ... stop forcing him down our throats.

Thank you!

Anyway ... rant over. Thanks again for reading everyone!! :goodvibes"

We'd rather see Minnie get hers.....:rolleyes1

Bends, we love you.

I will try to post a picture of gelato I ate in Rome last week. When dh saw it, he asked if it was my 'food porn'. Methinks I talk about the DIS too much. ;)

Brenda, I cannot thank you enough for your fantasic view of the Grand Floridian tea...I have been tossing the idea around for our April trip and your awesome and informative review clinched it!

Thanks for all the pictures too!

see...it's the curse thing...I'm telling you! The curse of the LAST meal! We ate at Kona for our final breakfast last summer...and I gotta tell you...while I did enjoy my Tonga Toast...I was a little underwhelmed by it all.

I'm very sad to know that my Last Meal Curse attacked you and your poor Jay. :sad1:

so great and powerful is the curse...

:worship:

;)

Darn it! I missed the 80's talk and I just know I could've added to it. Sadly, I still wear a lot of loafers in my work (mostly with buckles now) but it's because I find them so darned comfortable. Plus, who wants to see a 6'0 woman become 6'5 in some tall heels. (Not to mention, who wants to see me rebreak an ankle. Not me!) I'm a bizarre creature (as if folks here didn't know that already) but I just don't really follow fashion. I wear what I find comfortable and just don't give a hose about whether it was in last season, last year, or a decade ago. I'm comfortable, dang it!

Anyhow, in my brief moments of Dis time, I've now begun drawing up my newest spreadsheet to help figure out my dining options. My ADR book date isn't for a bit but I want to know where I'm eating by the time that date arrives. (Plus, I'm traveling a bit in March and have some solid deadlines in April so now's the best time for that sort of planning.)

I'm really having a tough time deciding between the regular DDP or the deluxe version. Sure, it's our honeymoon and we'll only get one but we're also going during Food and Wine Fest (our main reason for going, actually) so the DxDDP just looks like it might be overwhelming with all the snacks. On the otherhand, I know we won't do some of the restaurants that we might on the DxDDP. (No dining plan is not an option. Both of us are very, very frugal so we'd probably just not eat and that's never good.)

So help me out a bit! 5 TS, 5 CS, and 5 snacks or 15 TS/CS and 10 snacks? $380 or $700? Also, for you F&WF folks should we plan on rarely being hungry if we partake of the snacks and/or free culinary/wine demonstrations?

Wow. Just got through reading the whole thing. Took all day and a bunch of port and some garlic fried eggs and some pasta with pesto and some more port but damn! Fine work! BTW - my birthday is October 14th. Close. Glad you had a great birthday.

Brenda, yes, you have it correct it is getting more crowded in October so next time we are trying 2nd week of Dec. We start school the first week of August  , and get a fall break in mid-Oct. No kidding, there were at least 6-7 other families from our school that went at the same time, not to mention a few from our church, too! It was busier even than last year (06). To back up a little I have a quick question for you about Spoodles. If we get pizza at the to go window, is there any place to sit and eat it there, or nearby? We've never been to the Boardwalk, so I didn't know if it would be cold by the time we got it and drove back to the resort.

Maraena, do you have a list of the restaurants you really want to do? If you have a lot of 2TS, then the deluxe would save you money, but it looks like a lot of food. We did the regular DDP in October and I felt like I was eating all the time, and the worst thing is I was too full for the F&W goodies! :sad2: Except for the alcohol of course. I think if you do dxddp, you might not have room to try all the extras, but that's just me. If you're using those credits 2TS at a time, it might work without you having to take your 80's elastic waist stirrup pants!:rotfl: (Don't forget the big shirt with shoulder pads to go with them....)

Fingers... toes... various other body parts... :rolleyes1

Brenda,

I have been reading your reviews. They are fabulous. The first thing I usually do when I get to work is see if Brenda posted any updates!! :)

Looking forward to reading about the Party for the Senses. Marcel and I were glad we ran into you there. Can't wait to read what you thought.

By the way, we only have 9 more days until Chef's Table at Victoria and Albert's. I am so darn excited I can't concentrate on work. We will be there on 2/23!!!!!

Thanks ma'am - once I'm ready to share with the food-lovers of the world I'll be sure to let you know it's open for business!

Hmmm.....a minnie trippie for a Florida girl on her first overnight stay on property*? With food porn? Maybe. Just maybe.

I will definitely share my thoughts on Jiko. And about the Yak - BWAHAHAHA! I actually snorted when I read that.

*disclaimer: I am not counting the overnight stay in the Value resort the night before the Minnie Marathon, because, well, it is best forgotten. :sad2:

This post is all about the Monster Quilt Jason's mom made for us at Christmas. The words around the outside edge of the quilt read: There are big scary monsters under the bed - and every night they must be fed - they love to eat fabric - it's their favorite food - it puts them in the very best mood - so the lesson is clear - consider your plight - keep buying more fabric - or be dinner tonight!

There are nine separate monsters on the quilt ... the following pictures are individual shots of each monster.

That big blue monster, by the way, is wearing a gun in a holster!!! :scared1:

Seriously, this woman is so talented it makes my brain hurt. I have nothing but admiration for people who can create stuff like this from nothing. I can't do diddly with my hands and I totally suck at artsie-craftie stuff ... I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler! :lmao:

Hope you enjoyed the pictures and have a nice chocolately, lovey Valentines day tomorrow if you are so inclined! :goodvibes
