Hungry Are The Damned! 10/15/07-10/25/07 - COMPLETED W/LOTS OF PICS!!!

This post is all about the Monster Quilt Jason's mom made for us at Christmas. The words around the outside edge of the quilt read: There are big scary monsters under the bed - and every night they must be fed - they love to eat fabric - it's their favorite food - it puts them in the very best mood - so the lesson is clear - consider your plight - keep buying more fabric - or be dinner tonight!

There are nine separate monsters on the quilt ... the following pictures are individual shots of each monster.

That big blue monster, by the way, is wearing a gun in a holster!!! :scared1:

Seriously, this woman is so talented it makes my brain hurt. I have nothing but admiration for people who can create stuff like this from nothing. I can't do diddly with my hands and I totally suck at artsie-craftie stuff ... I can't even draw a straight line with a ruler! :lmao:

Hope you enjoyed the pictures and have a nice chocolately, lovey Valentines day tomorrow if you are so inclined! :goodvibes

WOW!!! What a great quilt!!! My mom also quilts like a maniac...she and her best friend have a custom quilt business...all by word of mouth, no advertising, and they have a THREE YEAR waiting list for quilts.

do you think your mom in law would mind if I showed MY mommy the pictures of this quilt? She'd love it and would NOT plagiarize it...if a quilt can be plagiarized...that could just be for writing...but you know what I mean...my mommy wouldn't be a copy cat...just an envy and and awe cat...cuz your monster quilt ROCKS!!!!

By the way...I also must stop whatever I am doing to watch The Biggest Loser...it's one of those strangely difficult to look away from reality shows...

i'm so easily distracted...

:3dglasses

I saw the Monster packin' heat, but I thought the heart should have had "Mom" written in like a tattoo.

I'm not quite sure what kind of message that's sending, but that quilt rocks the cat box!

The only crafty things I can do are counted cross stitch and crocheting afghans. I haven't touched any project for a long, long time. I'm too busy poking my nose around online communities. ;)

Ok, it probably is a monster packing heat, but I thought maybe it was Sully with Boo????

Ok...maybe not... everyone should have a .357 to get rid of a monster...????

Loving this TR so far Brenda! That quilt is awesome! Can't wait to read the next installment!

Brenda - that's for posting the pictures of the quilt. It is gorgeous. I too hope to be able to make something like that one day. I so laughed at the blue monster. I couldn't figure out what it was until I read it. :lmao:

Lurking and loving every word!! Glad everyone survived the storms in the south - we are freezing to death here in the northland!

Looking forward to your next adventure!

cc

CC! Thanks for letting me know that you're still here - hope you get some warmer weather soon. I hope we get some warmer weather, too!

Bends, we love you.

I will try to post a picture of gelato I ate in Rome last week. When dh saw it, he asked if it was my 'food porn'. Methinks I talk about the DIS too much. ;)

Briarmom!! I thought you were shunning me ... it's so nice to see you on the thread again! I wish you would post a picture of your gelato ... and Rome, too.

I must DIS too much, too. We're taking Jay's parents out to dinner tomorrow night and I asked him if I could take pictures so that I could post a review.

This was his response:

Brenda, I cannot thank you enough for your fantasic view of the Grand Floridian tea...I have been tossing the idea around for our April trip and your awesome and informative review clinched it!

Thanks for all the pictures too!

Hi MickeyNicki! Glad you enjoyed the afternoon tea review (that's one of my favorites so far). I hope you enjoy your tea in April - be sure to come back and let the rest of us know all about it! :thumbsup2

see...it's the curse thing...I'm telling you! The curse of the LAST meal! We ate at Kona for our final breakfast last summer...and I gotta tell you...while I did enjoy my Tonga Toast...I was a little underwhelmed by it all.

I'm very sad to know that my Last Meal Curse attacked you and your poor Jay. :sad1:

so great and powerful is the curse...

;)

The Last Meal curse ... hmmmm, never thought about that before you brought it up (haha - get it?). I hope it doesn't hit us when we're in Vegas. :scared1:

Tonga Toast doesn't do much for me either .. but to each his own, and Jay loves it.

Darn it! I missed the 80's talk and I just know I could've added to it. Sadly, I still wear a lot of loafers in my work (mostly with buckles now) but it's because I find them so darned comfortable. Plus, who wants to see a 6'0 woman become 6'5 in some tall heels. (Not to mention, who wants to see me rebreak an ankle. Not me!) I'm a bizarre creature (as if folks here didn't know that already) but I just don't really follow fashion. I wear what I find comfortable and just don't give a hose about whether it was in last season, last year, or a decade ago. I'm comfortable, dang it!

No one is ever too late for anything around here, you should know that! I'm not much for following fashion, either. I am a firm believer in being comfortable ... a co-worker of mine once called me a Granola Girl sans granola and hiking boots. :rotfl2:

Anyhow, in my brief moments of Dis time, I've now begun drawing up my newest spreadsheet to help figure out my dining options. My ADR book date isn't for a bit but I want to know where I'm eating by the time that date arrives. (Plus, I'm traveling a bit in March and have some solid deadlines in April so now's the best time for that sort of planning.)

I'm really having a tough time deciding between the regular DDP or the deluxe version. Sure, it's our honeymoon and we'll only get one but we're also going during Food and Wine Fest (our main reason for going, actually) so the DxDDP just looks like it might be overwhelming with all the snacks. On the otherhand, I know we won't do some of the restaurants that we might on the DxDDP. (No dining plan is not an option. Both of us are very, very frugal so we'd probably just not eat and that's never good.)

So help me out a bit! 5 TS, 5 CS, and 5 snacks or 15 TS/CS and 10 snacks? $380 or $700? Also, for you F&WF folks should we plan on rarely being hungry if we partake of the snacks and/or free culinary/wine demonstrations?

Here are some random things for you to think about, keeping in mind that I know almost nothing about the current dining plans that Disney offers.

If finances are a concern and you want a chance to eat at some Signature restaurants then go with the Deluxe plan because you'll have more choices and options (always a big plus in my book).

Remember that in years past (and I'm assuming this year, too) that snack credits are accepted at the F&W booths - that's a very convenient and tasty option. Those snack credits won't include alcohol, so that's still out of pocket but any food item you might want to try would be covered as a snack credit - that's way more attractive to me than buying a bunch of crap at the candystore (unless you want crap from a candystore).

What we do is spread the F&W tasting out over a few days ... and try to stop around 3PM if we have a dinner reservation for later that evening. That way we know we'll have an appetite for dinner.

And shame on us, but we've never yet made it to one of those free culinary or alcohol seminars at the festival - but I don't think you need to worry about the portion sizes. Based on the pours I saw at the wine seminars this past fall, you'll be lucky to end up with much more than a mouthful of any wine.

Anyone here who did attend a freebie, please post your impressions if you're so inclined. Especially if I'm wrong.

Hope you two have a great trip!

Wow. Just got through reading the whole thing. Took all day and a bunch of port and some garlic fried eggs and some pasta with pesto and some more port but damn! Fine work! BTW - my birthday is October 14th. Close. Glad you had a great birthday.

PrincessAurora, thank you for reading ... and for the fine menu ideas you've just provided! I love port ... I have a bottle waiting for later this evening when Jay and I are going to have a fire and gorge on cheese and bread. I have to thank V&A for turning me on to port and cheese ... :worship:

Happy belated birthday to you - one October girl to another. And let me just thank you for providing me with the inspiration to even try a food review report for the first time last year. Back in my "lurky" days I read everything you posted and you really gave me some wonderful insights into dining at the world, which was something we'd never really tried.

To all the folks reading here: you'd be hard pressed to find better reviews than PrincessAuora's. She's a chef and real foodie (not a poser like me); she writes well, has informed opinions, and she's very funny! :thumbsup2

Brenda, yes, you have it correct it is getting more crowded in October so next time we are trying 2nd week of Dec. We start school the first week of August  , and get a fall break in mid-Oct. No kidding, there were at least 6-7 other families from our school that went at the same time, not to mention a few from our church, too! It was busier even than last year (06). To back up a little I have a quick question for you about Spoodles. If we get pizza at the to go window, is there any place to sit and eat it there, or nearby? We've never been to the Boardwalk, so I didn't know if it would be cold by the time we got it and drove back to the resort.

Wow! I guess if the kids are starting in the first week of August then the deserve some time off in Ocotber ... but could you please tell them to stay away from the F&W Festival? They wouldn't like anything there, anyway. ;)

As for Spoodles ... they do have a take-out window and there are tables all over the Boardwalk that you can sit at and eat. Whenever we grab breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery we always park our butts at one of those tables and enjoy the view and the fresh air. You'll love it, just watch out for the birds - they're killers at the Boardwalk. :scared:

Maraena, do you have a list of the restaurants you really want to do? If you have a lot of 2TS, then the deluxe would save you money, but it looks like a lot of food. We did the regular DDP in October and I felt like I was eating all the time, and the worst thing is I was too full for the F&W goodies! :sad2: Except for the alcohol of course. I think if you do dxddp, you might not have room to try all the extras, but that's just me. If you're using those credits 2TS at a time, it might work without you having to take your 80's elastic waist stirrup pants!:rotfl: (Don't forget the big shirt with shoulder pads to go with them....)

All good points to consider ... except for the shoulder pads. ;)

Fingers... toes... various other body parts... :rolleyes1

I guess it didn't work, did it? Oh well ... 3-day weekend means I should be able to squeeze in an update.

Brenda,

I have been reading your reviews. They are fabulous. The first thing I usually do when I get to work is see if Brenda posted any updates!! :)

Looking forward to reading about the Party for the Senses. Marcel and I were glad we ran into you there. Can't wait to read what you thought.

By the way, we only have 9 more days until Chef's Table at Victoria and Albert's. I am so darn excited I can't concentrate on work. We will be there on 2/23!!!!!

Jeanne! Thank you so much for posting! It was so nice to meet you both but I feel so rude ... I just couldn't seem to stop stuffing my face to have much in the way of a decent conversation with anyone. Maybe next time we should try to plan a meet for after PFTS ... then we could all talk about how wonderful everything was while we digest it.

Oh, I'm so excited to hear that you two are headed for the Chef's Table! You will enjoy it so so much. Please come back and share your experience with us - I know I'm not the only one who will want to know all about it!

Have a lovely time!!! :goodvibes

Hmmm.....a minnie trippie for a Florida girl on her first overnight stay on property*? With food porn? Maybe. Just maybe.

I will definitely share my thoughts on Jiko. And about the Yak - BWAHAHAHA! I actually snorted when I read that.

*disclaimer: I am not counting the overnight stay in the Value resort the night before the Minnie Marathon, because, well, it is best forgotten. :sad2:

OK ... I got it now. The AK stay is different from the Minnie stay. Now that I think about it I probably did know that but then I forgot ... because that's what I do.

Either way, we want to hear all about it! :thumbsup2

Hi Brenda!

The quilt is way cool! I especially like the "packing" blue monster. :thumbsup2

Thanks - I love the colors especially.

:3dglasses

Campbell, feel free to share those pics - they're posted here for anyone to look at. And she wouldn't be plagiarizing ... it's not Joan's pattern (she bought it) it's just her color scheme and sewing abilities (of which I have none).

I was a little disappointed in the BL this week - the show seems kind of uneven. Some weeks good, some weeks crappy. But at least it's inspired me to be less of a slug than usual.

I'm too busy poking my nose around online communities. ;)

Too funny - now I can't see "Big Blue" without picturing "MOM" on his heart. :lmao:

Ok, it probably is a monster packing heat, but I thought maybe it was Sully with Boo????

Ok...maybe not... everyone should have a .357 to get rid of a monster...????

When I first saw it I didn't know what it was supposed to be ... I thought maybe it was some kind of metal bug sculpture and I was prepared to be totally grossed out because I don't like bugs.

Then Jay explained that it was from a toy that he had when he was a little Jay, and I understood that it was an "awwwwwwwww" moment his mom had sewn into the quilt for him. :goodvibes

...and you trip over painted lines in a parking lot. :lmao:

Seriously, very cool quilt B. :)

Nancy, it takes a special kind of stupid to do most of the things that I do.

I'll let Jay's mom know you like her quilt. ;)

But she has talent and such STYLE!!! :goodvibes

Stop ... you make me blush. And my style is to have no style ... :rotfl2:

An AMAZING quilt! Brava, Mom!

Thanks - she's really talented, isn't she? I'll be sure to let her know that everyone likes it.

Loving this TR so far Brenda! That quilt is awesome! Can't wait to read the next installment!

Hey stranger - thanks for stopping by and thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Brenda - that's for posting the pictures of the quilt. It is gorgeous. I too hope to be able to make something like that one day. I so laughed at the blue monster. I couldn't figure out what it was until I read it. :lmao:

Hi Laura! I'm amazed every time I look at that quilt - it's beautiful and goofy, a tough combination to master!

I really do admire people who can do stuff like this - like I said earlier, I'm terrible with my hands. And since I can't see anyway ... I'd be a total disaster with fabric and sewing machines and needles and thread.

My MIL does this stuff to relax. Holy mother of God ... :scared1:

I'd kill someone if I tried to relax by sewing. I relax by taking a bath ... reading a book ... writing goofy food reviews on the internet ... ;)

Sorry to interrupt us all, but I need to ask of you a question.

With Jay's help and the help of some fine DIS friends, I have managed to set up a private blog for our food and trip reviews. Right now I'm in the process of transferring over things that have been posted here, and setting up for things to come (Las Vegas, for one). It's nothing fancy, but it serves our purposes for the moment.

What I need to know is who among you would like access?

It is private, which means by invitation only. If you want to come along you will need to PM me with your email address and then I will issue you an invite from the blog. At that point you will have to register with Google (just your email address and a password of your choice) in order to read and post. Jay and I both feel that it's better to keep it private at this point - after all, there are a lot of weirdos hanging out on the internets. :rotfl2:

I'm happy to have any of my DIS food friends along for the ride, but I do want to be sure that everyone understands that I'm not going to censor anything that gets posted unless it's something deliberately hurtful aimed at another person. I will still be finishing this thread here at the DIS, but anything non-Disney related will be posted on the blog going forward. As I said earlier, everyone is welcome, you just need to let me know that you want to join us. :flower3:

That's it. I hope everyone is having a good weekend and I'd like to thank you all again for reading, lurking, posting, laughing, and anything else that our silliness may inspire in you. :grouphug:

Look for our Le Cellier F&W pairing some time tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Brenda I love the quilt! It is so cool, especially a toy from little Jay LOL!
I'll pm you, I'd love to read all about your Vegas trip. Someday Rick and I will get there!

Deb

Hi Brenda! I'm still here and reading your wonderful food reviews! I'm sending you a pm now as I'd love access to your blog, the nearest I've been to Las Vegas is watching CSI LOL!

BTW, your MIL is very talented, that quilt is beautiful!

I've been a long time lurker... ::shifts eyes... averts them from you:: Okay I'm not that strange! I love how you write, its so entertaining! Please invite me. PM on the way :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Another long-time lurker. :surfweb: I love your reports, and I would absolutely love to read your blog! PM on the way. :upsidedow

Ummmm, wow. Seriously overwhelmed by your responses ... :grouphug:

I hope you're not too disappointed - it's a pretty basic blog and I'm still transferring a lot over. I'm open to suggestions, by the way, from anyone who has more technical expertise than me (that's probably everyone).

Thanks very much - I really mean that. :goodvibes
