Ok so based on the fact that a few of us want to chat about our new TP's and what we are doing to them and with them I will start off with what I have done. I'll point out that I also have no point of comparison because I did this to my TP right out of the box since I had been perusing those forums before I got mine (in anticipation lol).
PLEASE READ ALL LINK PROVIDED BEFORE YOU FOLLOW ANYTHING I SAY!!!! as I have just provided a basic summary.
I in no way take any credit for anything mentioned here at first, the first part of this post is from another forum i frequent so please use at your own risk. I have had no problems with any of this but user beware.
Check out this thread over at Pre-Central.net (they are great over there at WebOS stuff).
First: Got your new TP? GO HERE:
This will teach you how to update your system software, install some patches and tweaks to make it faster, and Overclock your TP from 1.2 to 1.5. There's a lot of other info on there but this is the basic stuff you want to do. They also have some recommendations for apps that they like.
Please read ahead before you do things!!
I will post what I have done to mine (without any problems so far):
Step 1: Updated System software to 3.0.2
Step 2: Installed WebOS Quick Install (on my Computer)
Step 3: Installed Preware (on my TP thru my Computer)
Step 4: Installed the following Patches from Preware:
Add Download Link Option, Add Thumbnav Controls, Advanced Reset Options, Default to Month view, Faster Card Animations HYPER Version, Increase Touch sensitivity and smoothness, Muffle System Logging, Private Browsing, Quiet Powered Messages, Remove Dropped Packet Logging, Remove Tap Ripple, Unset CFQ IO Scheduler, Unthrottle Download manager. (Each time you install one, the system will restart)
Step 5: There are some nice system security things to do mentioned in the thread, I did those as well.
For OVERCLOCKING:
I used this link to learn how to do it (scroll down a bit):
Step 1: Go to Preware and search for: Govnah and UberKernel, Install both.
When you OVERCLOCK (THIS MAY VOID WARRANTY, however you should be able to undo this if you have to return the TP to HP).
Step 2: Go to Govnah, tap on the profile part (first thing listed) and select OnDemandTcl 1512 (this is the uberkernel you downloaded). When you go back you will see your new cpu frequency at 1.5xx instead of 1.2xx.
You are done!
Apps: This is what I have on mine.
Amazon Kindle Beta,box.net, Angry Birds, Spaz HD Beta (twitter), Accuweather, USA Today, Epicurios, Digicamera Lite (lets you take pics with the front camera), TuneIn Radio, Pandora, Comics HD, GoPayment (havent tried it yet), AuctionMate for ebay (undecided), Solitaire, Tanked, Facebook Tablet.
Kalemsoft: http://www.kalemsoft.com/site/downloads (html http://www.kalemsoft.com/site/docs/wqi.txt INSTRUCTIONS) , you must have the WebOS quick install on your computer (the one you used to install the preware on your touchpad with), download file that says (in red) NEW Kalemsoft Media Player for Touchpad and save to computer, the simply click on the link above that says Instructions and follow them. (thanks bdoyledimou!) *Just figured out that this FREE version does not allow you to hear or view anything unless you are on wi-fi. If you want to use it offline, you must buy the paid app!*
BOX.net gives you the 50gb of storage but did you know you can map it to your computer so it shows up like any other drive so you can just drag and drop? Here's how:
I am running Windows 7 for more details click link.
Go to my computer, on the top, select map network drive, choose any drive letter you want to assign to it, in the folder option put https://www.box.net/dav/ (or http://www.box.net/dav/ if https does not work for you), select reconnect at logon, a box popped open enter your box.net account username and password, hit finish.
If you go to my computer it should now show up as a drive (like C
on your computer so just drag and drop what you like to it. (it works a little slow for me but better than having to log in to box.net). Go to box.net on your touchpad and voila, what you put in on your computer is now showing up on your touchpad.
To Disable Logging without Preware(straight on your TP without additional installations)

Library Books on Kindle App
Go to:OverDrive
Put in your zip code, that should pop up another window giving you some options to your local library. I chose my branch and another window popped up with a link to my local library, from there you can find books, checkout and it will appear in you kindle. (process may differ from county to state i guess, but just an idea)
