HP Touchpad users check in here!

Thanks! Anyone have this case? pros/cons? I have the hp case for one of mine but will need cases for DD and DH. The HP case is okay. Fits the touchpad great but the cover doesn't lock closed which I dont like.
Do a google search for this:
HP Touchpad PU Leather Case

and you will see a few different sites (forums) that have reviews, discussions. Most people seem to not like it, one post said that it ignores the light sensitivity thing on the TP. Looks like a nice case tho, nicer than others ive seen but I dont have it, just figured you might as well read what others who have gotten it are saying.

Has anyone else install Android on their TP yet?
It's sweet being able to flip between web os and Android for doing different things(like watching Netflix!!!)

I did last night and I LOVE it!!! The google app store is awesome and having Netflix is great. I don't like that the key board isn't the same as the webos one and the swiping to get rid of pages is gone but I don't miss then enough to go back. I now have my words with friends which I couldn't get with webos, yay! I also love the live wall papers. Don't know if they were on webos, but they are pretty cool.

ETA. it's also awesome that you can go between the different operating systems, I wish they could combine some of the cooler features of webos with the android version so you don't have to go back and forth. Pretty amazing what these people can do!

Have either of you experienced any problems? I'm a bit leary of installing Alpha software.

where do I find android to get it installed?

Ssawka - it's definitely still a little buggy so it requires a lot of patience. I'm a outlet tech savvy so a little bugginess doesn't bother me.

Judique - here is the link for the site I used (hope it doesn't get xx'd out
addictivetips.com/mobile/fix-android-market-on-touchpad-running-cyanogenmod-7-guide/
There is also a YouTube video that's dubbed the idiots guide to rooting your touchpad, the Guy who did it did a great job. If you search cyanogenmod 7 on YouTube it should pop up.

Thank you!

One more question....you say swiping to get rid of cards is gone, but you dont miss it. But you also say you can switch between android and web os. Do you mean that when using webos after installing android that it affects that feature of webos? Or that you just don't have the feature on android?

Im in no way tech savvy, but still like to learn and play a bit with my toys! I also regularly use an android phone and love it.

So also yesterday evening we are driving to dinner and my older 20 somethings are playing with my touchpad and suddenly I hear youtube music. They tethered the android phone and the tp and were on the net. I will make them teach me when they get up later.

I have to do a few hard reboots (holding the home and power button) and the network is still kind of flakey requiring you to manually turn it on and off every now and then.. but other than that no biggie..

The feature isnt on Android at all. It's a whole new os and has its own way of doing things.. you can always just reboot and go back into Web OS, and then reboot again and go back into Android.. just pick your OS at boot :)

as for where to download it.. get it direct from the source..

http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...a-21-19-oct-2011-dont-link-directly-to-files/

they are on Alpha 2 now... While it is easy ..

pay attention to the instructions, read them, watch the video, re read the instructions, then re read them again.
Then follow them as you do it.

My Touchpad came today! FINALLY! I had to call HP for help getting on my wireless network -- the tech I talked to was very helpful. He helped me get the latest system update, which gives a camera option, and helped me download a game (and now I can't remember how I did that -- can't find the games anywhere). The biggest problem I'm having is it's not recognizing my accounts -- my FB, Amazon, or Skype! I've turned off the AutoCorrect, maybe I should try again (it kept changing my name from Erin to nano). I don't know if I'm going to attempt the Android thing -- I'll give it a little bit before I make that decision. I like the sound quality on it, and the graphics are good. I'll have to read through this thread again!

In the meantime, if someone can tell me again where I go to download games, I would appreciate it.

OK, I figured out where to get the games. I've loaded several apps on my TP, and I'm really enjoying it. Question for you all -- how do I load music on it? Do I need to download iTunes or another program? I have a small number of songs on my main computer that I would like to put on the TP, but not sure how to go about it. Boy, there are lot of useless apps! Bulgarian translator?

Cases - I bought a Targus leather case on the HP site that had a $40 instant rebate, final price $19.99. It looked better than the HP case, and was the same price.

Since this doesn't have a regular USB drive, is there such a thing as a micro USB adapter? Or would I have to put anything I wanted to transfer onto my main computer and go through the TP's cord, or the other way around, rather than using a thumb drive?

And final question (for now) -- someone mentioned free books on Kindle -- I can't find these, any help?

Thanks!

I found the free Kindle books. I found one I wanted to download (and several I'd like to buy... :rolleyes1), but it's asking me to enter the 16-digit serial number for my Kindle device. What do I put here?

Just plug it in, select USB drive when you get the option on screen, and then copy/paste to the touchpad directly through "my computer".

You do not need any other tools.

Keep in mind you MUST right-click and "eject" the touchpad from my computer or it won't disengage.

There are no micro usb adaptors or anything like that. you get what you get.

If I recall correctly you need to open the Kiddle app and sign in with your email address and password from amazon and then it will ask you to Register this Kindle. Once you do that, each time you "purchase" a book on amazon it will ask you which device to download to.

you may also need to have a CC# on file - so when I "purchase" free books, I get an email for $0.00

but earlier in this thread (page 1) there was a link to overdrive where you can borrow ebooks from your library. Many libraries pay overdrive.com...the publishers have set how many and what books are available to borrow too (for instance the latest discussion on amazon.com was Steve Jobs book is not available through overdrive)

Each day there is a poster on Amazon.com that posts free books her name is HappyReader - she all caps her posts FREE BOOKS Friday October 27 (or what the date is, sometimes the books come available later, and she'll make a new post - sometimes those books arent free for long, the latest books have a "Vbook" which is a video book - doesnt work on kindles, but works on tablets - go to wikipedia and search vbook, it was an interesting read)

(the discussion for Kindle - FREE BOOK thread can be found here)

My problem is in registering the TP as a Kindle -- it's asking for the 16-digit serial number from a Kindle, which I obviously don't have. What do I put in this spot?

I somehow registered my TP with amazon and have not idea how I did it. I went to download a book and it had my iphone and tp listed. If I can figure out how the heck I got it on there I'll let you know.

I am just re-reading this.. thanks for that link.. I have to read through the link tomorrow.. I know I just looked and it stated something about Hulu.. I tried using Hulu 2 weeks ago and my TP said it did not support it :confused3 so I really need to read this link.. thank you very much for it.. :goodvibes
