HP Touchpad users check in here!

I have to admit, I am not use to the non-keyboard typing and I really do not like that at all. I have really only used the TP when I have gone to Disney. It is easier to bring that with me than my laptop.. I keep being told that I will get use to the typing aspect the more I use it. I don't know.. I am a creature of habit and I am not in the habit of using a touch screen to type.. I like a keyboard.. ;) I may just have to invest in a keyboard for it, then I will be happy... then it will be a pain to bring with me :lmao:

The feature isnt on Android at all. It's a whole new os and has its own way of doing things.. you can always just reboot and go back into Web OS, and then reboot again and go back into Android.. just pick your OS at boot :)

as for where to download it.. get it direct from the source..

http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...a-21-19-oct-2011-dont-link-directly-to-files/

they are on Alpha 2 now... While it is easy ..

pay attention to the instructions, read them, watch the video, re read the instructions, then re read them again.
Then follow them as you do it.

Thanks again!

I realized that it wasn't on android. Somehow I got confused with an idea that it wiped out os features.

I know that is not true now and that you can switch between the two.

I do have 2 techies living with me but I like to do my own basic research so they don't just take my touchpad from me and type furiously and say 'here' as they pass it back to me, lol.

We now have three and one has android on it.
What I like the best is the size and to use it for watching video.

It is very portable!

Has anyone had trouble registering their HP as a Kindle? It took me almost an hour on the phone, both with HP and Amazon, to get it done. In the end it didn't end up taking much to get fixed, but nobody seemed to know anything about it. And I'm finding that little things (like deleting apps I don't want any more) seem to be hard to find (for me at least, and I can't figure out why I'm having so much trouble with these things -- I'm pretty computer savvy). Does anyone know if there's a "touchpad for dummies" book? I think I need one.

no probs w kindle or typing...still love it...finally disabled autocorrect...that was annoying....thing I hate about kindle app is not being able to delete only archive.

Question -- can I hook up a card reader to the Touchpad and download pictures (like when I'm traveling and want to save my photos)? I've seen a couple of reasonably priced card readers where I can plug the USB/MicroUSB cord that came with the TP in.

If you've loaded Android on your Touchpad successfully, can you help me? I followed all the directions and got it loaded, but now I can't download apps, and I can't turn the thing off! Holding down the power button just puts it in sleep mode. I had been able to reboot for a little while, and it looked like I'd be able to reboot in WebOS mode, but now I can't even figure out how to do that!

If you go to shutdown, you should be taken to the "boot" screen. One of the options is to power off.

You know, I'm not generally stupid about these things, but I can't even find Shutdown now.

Hold the power button in while at the same time holding in the button that is on top near the screen that you use for switching between screens. Sorry I don't know the name of that button. lol But if you hold both of them in it will turn off. It does take a few seconds though so be patient. Holding the power button in for a few seconds should pop up the shut down window but that does not always happen so you have to do a hard shutdown.

Hopefully that will work for you as I do not have android on mine so I don't know if that changes it in any way. When I looked up about putting android on mine it seemed like there were too many things you were not able to use any more. And I have read that you can not reload web os once you went to android so I didn't want to mess anything up. If you need further help search hp web os and you will find their forums where they will be able to provide you with further information.

I love the convenience of the touchpad but I also see the flaws with it and understand why they dumped it. The thing I am most disappointed with is the cracking of the case near the speaker. And lately more problems have been showing up with email, photos, memos and the kindle app. I have to reboot just to get new email or to bring up my library with the kindle app. or to load photos or memos after it has been running for awhile. I like the new tablet HP has out but after seeing the flaws with the touchpad I am not so sure I would buy another through them. Esp. not for the prices they want for the current ones. I am not even sure if I had to do over that I would pay 150.00 again like I did with the touchpad. We have owned nothing but HP laptops and printers and have not had any problems with them so it has been disappointing to see some of the problems with the touchpad. With them getting rid of the touchpad I had low expectations to begin with but I never would have thought I would have a problem with the case cracking. Also after reading up on it before buying I was expecting them to support web os. Even if they did not bring anything new out I was at least expecting updates to be available based on what they were telling the public at the time.

That being said I do use mine on a daily basis and it would be hard to go back.

Thank you! This allowed me to reboot. I didn't get the shutdown menu, and I didn't shut it off, but it showed the selection menu -- now I have to keep playing with it.

And one of the things you're supposed to be able to do -- and I can see it when it reboots -- is open in WebOS mode -- on the forums, it says that you can toggle between Android and Web OS, so I'll have to figure that out.

Edit -- if anyone else is in this situation - when you get the reboot screen with the choices of what to boot it up in - the power button acts to let you move up and down in the list, and the home button is "select" or "enter." For some reason, now, the power button lets me reboot or shut down.

And I have all my WebOS functions in that mode. Now I just have to figure out how to get the Google Play store app loaded so I can download Android apps, or this was worthless.

I'm not sure if there are different releases, but with the release I have, I have both Android and WebOS and I can boot into either.
