Hi! I have a HP Photosmart R967. I've had it since it first came out about three years ago. Can anyone give me some specific tips on how to use this camera for fireworks, parades, closeup detail shots, etc. Also, lately it freezes and the screen turns black with scrambled vertical lines that show the movement of the people in my picture but no details just lines. When I take the battery out and then put it back it usually corrects itself but sometimes it doesn't. Could it be the rechargeable battery? I am posting some shots that I have taken that may help you give me some in sight into what I am doing wrong. Lastly, I am including a shot from Epcot in June and my camera kept putting squiggly lines in the picture and I didn't know what to do.

I am sorry it's a lot of questions but any of your tips and knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

#1 It looks like this was a metering problem. That caused it to overexpose.

#2 Shutter speed was too long for hand held. You need a tripod.

#3 It could have been framed better, but the camera seems to have worked correctly.

#4 The flash fired when there is no way that a flash could help the shot. It also needed a tripod.

#5 You cannot expect anything more from your camera. You need a DSLR to do much better.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly. So I definitely need to start saving up to get a nicer camera. I will also go out and get a tripod for this camera. How do I change my shutter speed? And how can I fix the metering problem? Thanks so much!:flower3:

See if you have a setting called shutter priority or manual. If you do, then check your manual on how to use it. If not, then look at the different modes you have to see which ones fit the situations you are trying shoot. As for the metering, I think you set the exposure for the big fireworks before they went off. That caused the shutter to stay open longer than it needed to be. This is just my guess though.
