How's Everyone Doing Out There? (Blizzard)

We are in the county about 30 minutes from Baltimore, MD and not sure how much snow we have. Unfortunately we lost our dog on Thursday. She was 13 years old and was a golden retriever/greyhound mix we adopted from our local shelter 9 1/2 years ago. She started acting weird a few weeks ago. She would just go stand in a corner and get stuck because she lost the ability to know how to back up, would just pace in a room and go the same route over and over again not caring if something was in her way and then go to the next room and the cycle would continue over and over until she got tired or fell and couldn't get herself back up, tried to fit through small spaces among other things. We called the vet and she suspected dementia. But, when we actually brought her in she thought it was a lot more than that possibly a brain tumor. She kept her overnight last Thursday into Friday to do bloodwork and run tests to rule out other things but they came back fine so she said a neurologist would have to run tests. For the scans she would need she would have had to be put to sleep but might not wake up and if it was a tumor they would not operate anyway due to her age so we decided not to put her through that and just keep her comfortable at home. During this past week she kept getting worse and worse so we made the difficult decision to have her put down so she would not continue to suffer. We have had a hard time dealing with this and being stuck in the house is not helping. Sorry, I didn't mean to depress everyone. We do want to adopt another dog soon as it will help us to feel better knowing we saved another dog.

 I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like you made the best decisions you possibly could for her. Hang in there.

May I ask why all the wiper blades on the cars are up? I'm from Arizona and don't deal with snow much.
It is so they don't freeze to the windshield.

CynBeth, sorry for your loss. Such a hard decision. BTDT

In northeastern MD 19 inches, but difficult to measure because of the drifting. Still snowing with high winds here.

There has been so much drifting here that the sidewalk we cleaned off this morning is as high as before we do it. At least the driveway is still pretty clear until the snowplow comes through.

Totally bored over here. :faint: We are in an area that got no snow, totally surrounded by areas that got hit. In all seriousness though, I am grateful-my husband is working his second job tonight & it involves a ton of driving, so I am thankful he doesn't need to deal with any bad weather.

Monmouth County here. I think we have about 16". Our Shih Tzu will go out, but not very far. She has decided on the deck, under the table is the perfect place. Not looking forward to digging out tomorrow.

The storm has just passed here in No VA. We got at least 30 inches - it just never stopped snowing. We also have a Shih Tzu, and he wasn't crazy about going outside either! Not looking forward to digging out tomorrow, but hopefully by Tuesday we'll be able to get around.

 Been through the same thing and I can do is send hugs. :tink:

Thoughts from South Central Texas for all of you dealing with this massive snowstorm. If we ever get snow we can "count the flakes" :rotfl: so I can't imagine what y'all are dealing with but I will say I LOVE all the pictures! They are unbelievable but absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing and sending you all warm Olaf thoughts. :tink:

I thought about putting up the wipers on our cars but worried about the wind snapping them. It shook the house a few times.

We have about a foot so far in southern CT. Not too bad-two years ago we had 39" so 12" is like a dusting in comparison.

Apparently, we're better off on my little street if we get a "storm" instead of just "snow". - I actually woke up to plowed roads this morning!! (Last weekend, when we got much less, was a whole different, messy, story...)

I'll try to take some pics once it's light out. It should be pretty out my back door.

in MA, howling winds here and ominous looking outside.

Stay safe and warm, everyone!

I read that the full moon isn't helping here, that it may be making things worse with high tides and what not. Bad for shore line areas (where we are!) lots of flooding possible, besides the snow.

We were watching a Chihauahua for the past couple of weeks. He hated going out in the cold even with just a dusting of snow - I can't even imagine how he would be with a couple of feet! Our Cairn loves the snow and did fine with all the snow we got here last year. We did lose him one day, though - he'd somehow tunneled under a huge snow bank on the deck and was hanging out in there, coming out on his own time. Little Shyte (as DH calls him)!

This picture made me literally lol. I can hear him now... "I'm the king of the hill!"

Winston, who's not exactly sure what to make of all this white stuff...

So I finally got a picture of my little Roxy in the snow...If we didn't dig out that area for her she would definitely get lost in the snow, LOL...we are leash walking her from now until it melts A LOT, LOL

I love the pictures of the animals!

I'm in the Albany area. No snow for us. Too far west and north I guess. I'm almost a little jealous. I mean... I HATE snow because I have to drive in it, but a weekend storm? I could deal :)

Good luck folks! Now the fun begins... digging out!

Checking in from northern Maryland. We got over two feet of snow. I can't imagine us digging out for awhile. Hopefully we get a plow to do our street today. Unfortunately my sons boss texted him last night asking him to come in two hours earlier than scheduled today. I would say there is no way he would be even able to get out of our development. And we have not even started to clear the feet of snow off his car in the driveway. Hopefully they won't give him too much grief. Of course they are welcome to come get him if they want He works part time in a fast food place so I am actually surprised they will even be opening. Maybe that will change once they realize people are stuck at home and won't be venturing out to their business.

HOPE all are SAFE! Not looking forward to the dig out. We always purchase trip insurance, but after this storm, doesn't matter what the season is, there are TOO MANY unforeseen circumstances :scared1:that we have no control over to chance it. GOOD LUCK:wizard: to all who may be able to salvage part of their trip and to all beginning to resume travel.:goodvibes

It's done here, finally. I thought it would never stop yesterday. I think we are around 30" in Northern VA. However, woke up this morning to my street being almost 100% plowed. I can see black pavement (although is has snow and ice all over it). Supposed to get a lot of sun today and temps over freezing. Also pretty nice for the next few days so I think we will clean up pretty fast here. Not like some other snows where it stayed in the teens afterwards and the ice would just NEVER go away.

This picture made me literally lol. I can hear him now... "I'm the king of the hill!"
LOL, this was another - standing on like four feet of snow peering in the window. I think he was kind of bummed when it went away!

Same! They are so funny!

We wound up with about 5 or 6 inches since yesterday. It's actually really pretty out now with white snow in the trees and on the streets. Tomorrow it will look yucky again on the roads. :p

One of my friends who moved to (Central) VA said they had one plow come by Friday night, then never another, so they were quite snowed in.

I posted on your thread, but that must have been doubly hard losing your dog while dealing with the storm! :grouphug:

As an "essential employee", I can't imagine not being able to get out. I have to get out no matter what to get to work (nurse) so not being plowed would be a huge problem! Fortunately it doesn't happen here, we're always plowed early and often. (And I've never missed a day due to snow, in over 30 years!) But it makes me wonder how all the essential employees of areas that weren't plowed got to work!

Well it's official now. We broke all snow records for our area in the 30 years we have lived in this house. A huge frontloader with a 6 ft. high V-shaped blade just cleared the driveway next to ours (1000+ ft long so snowblower wouldn't easily cut it). The drifts are at least 4 foot high in places.

DS and I had to go outside to the heat pump unit at 10:30 pm last night and clear it off again. Even walking in DS's footprints the drifts were so deep I fell over several times and had to be helped get back up but it was almost fun being out in the silence.

The sky was clear and the moon up high enough to create light. Combined with the reflection off the snow there was a bright yellow eerie glow in the sky everywhere; lovely!

We will have to go out again later this morning and snowblow the driveway and clear off the bushes weighed down with snow to protect them (our house goes on the market Feb. 11th).

I will take more pictures and share them later.

Be safe everyone affected by Jonas!

It's hard to tell how much really fell because of the drifting but reports say 22". Some places there are a few inches and others drifts over 4'. We're in an HOA, something I'm very happy about on days like this. I went to clean the cars off before the crew arrives to shovel us out. Doing that took over an hour because I had to shovel my way to the cars. The snow was waist deep.
