How's Everyone Doing Out There? (Blizzard)

Last year our roads and driveways eventually turned icy. I took a pretty bad header in my driveway one day as I was running out to the car, family waiting. It was like slo-mo too - as soon as I went up in the air off my feet I was like, "Whoa, running wasn't a good idea, what was I thinking". Fortunately didn't break anything, but I was very sore for quite a while. Elderly especially have to be careful of falls. My friend's father hit his head in a fall and succumbed to his injuries. So be careful out there!

Thanks everyone! We got 29 inches I believe. Our court was cleared very well but it has been a job so far trying to clear a path from our porch and down the steps and then our driveway. My husband and I are short so the snow is up to our thighs I believe.I had to come in for a little bit to rest.

DH measured various places in the front and back yards and averaged it out to 18 inches. It might have been more, but the sleet yesterday morning compacted it down somewhat. Local weather website said the total was 19.5 inches, the 6th highest on record for the area.

As we were starting to shovel out our walkway to the driveway, two guys with a plow on a big pickup truck asked if we wanted them to plow our driveway. Hell yes!!!

We can get out now, but we plan on staying home.

Ours topped out close to 30". After all the shoveling I did yesterday, and another 3 hours this morning, the driveway and paths are clear. But I can't get near the front yard to clear the front steps, lol. The plows dumped a 3 1/2 foot wall of solid snow that took me an hour to get thru. Now I plan on doing nothing today but watching the Patriots win the game!

Same here. Just not going out. I figured I'd heed the newscasters' advice and stay home and give the plows room to really clean up.

My street is no where near being plowed. We are slowly digging out the driveway (not that we can get anywhere, LOL). Just came inside for some tea and a rest. Going out in another 15 minutes for another digging session. Looks like we got near 30 inches. Usually there are people walking up and down the neighborhood offering to shovel, but no one has come so far. I don't think they can even get near our street since the emergency snow route one street over is still unplowed.

same here to the bolded. Yesterday there were 4 wheelers, snow mobiles, and a lot of trucks with plows, but no one asking if anyone needed help. This morning all I hear are snowblowers. Since we live on a road that the State plows maintain, our road is clear, but in town they say its a mess.

Our Prediction by the models was 2-12, lol. They were just unable to tell us for certain. I had a foot, 30 miles north had nothing, 30 miles south was 2 ft. This morning it is single digits out, but no wind and sunny. The roads are still covered and icy. But, a hopeful warm up tomorrow above freezing temps.

30 inches, every street plowed, but only main ones down to asphalt. School already cancelled tomorrow.

Schools cancelled here tomorrow too. Not one plow in our development yet. They are working on main roads first. Dh working from home tomorrow and luckily my sons work closed today but he is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully we will get plowed by then because the drifts are close to four feet tall in the street

I had to laugh at one story I read on the internet. They quoted someone as rejoicing at finally being able to get out after 36 hours stuck inside. The horror!!!

Even with no snow, there are some winter weekends where I don't leave the house.

Icicles hanging outside my kitchen window.

That sound like here!

Those icicles are beautiful.

We're only 1/2 shoveled out but there isn't school tomorrow so that's ok. Hopefully the crew will get to us overnight.

We got about 20 inches in Gloucester County, NJ. I heard local schools are closed for tomorrow. Shoveling the driveway wasn't all that bad, but that pile the plows left at the bottom of the driveway....UGH!! Lots of huge ice chunks on top and mixed within. Fortunately it was sunny today, and warm enough for some melting to occur.

And I'd like to thank DIS members for NOT going along with the nonsense of calling this storm by the name some websites are attaching to it.

We had a great day of sun and seemingly warm temps (30s?) which melted any scraped areas. Here's a few shots from my time outside:

And me; DH says I am crazy but I do love the snow!
