was just visiting w/family friends last week & they were telling me that their dil & family have been visiting WDW & staying in great places (Wilderness Lodge, Grand FL, etc) for DIRT cheap rates ---ok not THAT cheap but compared to the normal rates...they've been staying for about $70 a night (the same price we stay for at All Stars).....tell me what is their secret? I dont' know the dil or I'd ask her...& the friend of the family doesn't have any idea -she just goes along with them....so what do they do I don't know???

I can't imagine ever finding a rate near $70 a night at Wilderness Lodge or the Grand Flordian available to the general public. Now maybe if they were CM's and could get some deep discounts, maybe but I'm still not buying it. Sounds like someone is spinning tall tales.

I wouldn't pay any attention either. It's my guess that they don't want the parents to know how much they are really spending so they fib a little. I know if my MIL knew how much we spent on our vacations we would never hear the end of it.

If noone here has heard such a thing then I'm gonna HAVE to find out from the mom specifics or @ least email the girl (that I dont' know) & see what she says.... I know she's not a CM but she doesn' do a ton of travel planning for folks (not officially a travel agent -but does all the planning for her boss)...

Sounds like an exaggeration. My husband is a CM, so we get some great discounts, but nothing that low. Even with the 50% discount, which is the best we can get, the WL would cost just over $100 per night, plus taxes. Other deluxe resorts (Grand Floridian, Polynesian, etc) are a good deal more expensive for us.

count me in as one of those who fibs about the cost to relatives. Well, I would never be as specific as "I paid $70 for this room" but I do tell them I get a great discount and am not paying anywhere near what the other folks are paying full price for the same rooms. It is true, I have an AP and have also used codes, etc from this board. How much a discount they think it is, I have no idea. LOL

I would bet the people you spoke to heard a similar comment and assumed the "discount" made the room comparable to what they would want or expect to pay for a hotel room--$70.


I think it would be funny to contact the DIL to hear her story, but I am pretty confident the answer would be they were just wrong about the amount. There is no way they pay $70 for a GF room.

Cant use DVC points to get low rates. The cost isn't low unless you stay at a DVC location.
