DW and I are expecting are first child in May and we have been discussing when we should take our baby girl to Disney for her first trip. Family and friends all say we should wait until she is two or three and wouldn't appreciate the trip. I wanted to get the thoughts of other Disney parents...how old were your children when you first took them to the World?

DD was 14mo and she had a blast. Hopefully the clomid will work and she'll have a little 2mo old bro/sis in December with us.

We took our first when he was 10 months old and our second on his first trip when he was 6 months old. Both trips were great. Yes, they were more work than trips when it was just DH & myself but it also made us slow down and we really enjoyed the little things that WDW has to offer. I would say wait until the baby can support their head so that wearing them is an option (yes, I know that there are carriers for newborns but I'm thinking of a carrier that allows the child to sit up and look around). We used the Baby Bjorn carrier for the 6 months old and we had purchased a backpack carrier for after the child was too heavy for the Baby Bjorn. Worked out great! The child might not remember their trips from their early years but you will have some great memories. My 3 yr. old constantly talks about the "big ball" (aka SSE) and "Woody & Buzz" (aka TSM). Plus if you take them before they turn three they are free. :)

I have an awsome picture of my Grandson in Small World.....His little body is tense and mouth wide with a toothless smile watching the "babies" dance. He was only 4months old at the time. He has now been 5 times FEB 2009 for his second birthday. Wonderful memories created!

our kids were 2 and 4 for first trip, but we had to rush because I just had a double lung transplant and didn't know how long I'd be healthy...that being said our trip at 4 and 6 was better and I think this year at 6 and 8 may be better yet...

My oldest DD was 6 months old when we brought her to DLR. We lived in San Diego at the time and had APs. I came once or twice a month until she was 3. My youngest was 6 weeks old when we took the family to WDW. Young? We have video (think VHS) of her raising her head and looking at Chip and Dale. To this day, Chip and Dale are her favorites. My DDs are 20 and 24, love Disney and have APs.

I say go whenever you feel like it!:thumbsup2 My kids didn't get to Disney until they were 5, 2, and 3 respectively, but that was due to financial reasons not a lack of wanting to go. Disney is great at any age, IMHO, just a different experience.:goodvibes

I think the kid should be at least 2-3 years old to be taken there. He/she should feel where he/she has been.

By the way, congrats to you couple for the expecting.

I say take them at any age you want. I have 5 children and the youngest went for the 1st time when he was 9 months old! We did the land sea cruise and it was great! Yes it was work but we still had a blast seeing him with the characters and he got his first haircut on main street! pixiedust:

I say go when you are ready.I would wait until 3 months or older though.Newborns are not yet sleeping thru the night and do not have the immune system in place to handle a close packed germy theme park.Plus, I don't know about your wife. But after the birth of my DD, i was in NO shape to be walking around a themepark ,sleep deprived and with postpartum depression till DD was 6 months old. That said we did not take her to disney till this past year...She was 4.There is a lot to be said for no diapers,no bottles, and no stroller.

We weren't going to take a trip until DD was 3 years old (or almost 3), but when the 4+3 came out we went for it.

She's now 4 months old, and is VERY nosy & interested in everything. I think she will have a great time when we go next week!!

We took DS at 4 months. He doesn't remember it, but we have fantastic memories of it, and he DID enjoy it. Took him again at 15 months and he loved it, but still no memory. Took him again at just over 2 years and he does remember that nearly a year later. We'll look at the pictures and he'll talk about the rides and what they do.

Now, if my family could only have one trip to WDW in a lifetime, I would have waited until he was at least 8, but knowing that we'd go many times during his childhood, why wait? Pictures of a wide-eyed 4-month-old being held up to Mickey Mouse's nose are just too adorable!

We took DS for the first time when he was 2 1/2 and took DD for the first time at 13 months.

They'll enjoy it at any age obviously, but I think when they are a little older, the trip is a little easier for the parents.

IMO, if you are going to WDW when the child is under 3-4 yrs. old., you are really going for you. After 4 years old most children start to understand and remeber where they are.

We will be going next summer with a then 14/mo old. Will she enjoy it? who knows. Will we enjoy it? you bet we will!

Go for you!

When we adopted our kids at 9 months and 6 months, we said it was silly to go before they were 4...we're leaving Saturday for our first trip. They are both 2, so you see how long that lasted! :rotfl2: We have very young 2-year-olds, but they watch Playhouse Disney everyday and are familiar with the characters. They also enjoyed a state fair with rides this past summer, so I feel they are ready. We are taking it leisurely and doing things on their schedule, not ours.

If you want to take them, no matter their age, go for it! :thumbsup2

We have two kids, a boy age 7 and a girl age 2. We took our son for the first time at 11 months, and he really didn't get it. But the next summer, we went back when he was 18 months and he was talking and asking to go on certain rides (Small World - over and over).

Same thing with my daughter. We took her at 6 months, and she wasn't into it at all. But then a year later, we took her and she loved it. She's been about 5 times now, and she asks about rides when we're at home.

I think about 18 months is a good place to start.
