How was the movie "the Producers?"

I really want to see a movie tonight and I am considering the Producers. Was it funny or completely stupid? It seems it would have gone either way.

Thanks!

I thought it was hilarious, but a lot of people went the other way. I'm a big fan of the original movie and thought the stage musical was great, so I'm really the target audience for the new movie. Just watched it on DVD the other night (I was one of the 5 people who saw it in its theatrical release) and got some big laughs out of it again! :happytv:

It's always hard to predict how someone else will like a movie, especially not knowing the person, but I have to say that we LOVE The Producers! I've seen it about five times, and my 15 year old daughter has watched it even more. However, my husband watched it once and that was enough for him. He liked it, but once was enough.

My daughter has the entire soundtrack on her IPod and listens to it all the time, along with Spamalot. She thinks The Producers is absolutely hilarious.

I can see where some people might be offended by some of the language/situations in the movie and I wouldn't recommend it for young kids, but it IS comedy and it IS very funny.

Okay, my daughter just said "pretty much every scene is politically incorrect. It's funny and I love musicals. The easily offended might want to refrain from watching it, however."

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Having said that, she is really a very sweet girl and is very open-minded and would NEVER offend anyone in real life. She just has a very good, (warped), sense of humor. :lmao:

it was OK - not that I didn't like it, but I have seen out takes from the play and it works so much better on stage (even in taped version of the play vs movie) than it translates on film - definately worth seeing though I wish I could have seen it onstage or that they had made "Great Performances" version or whatever....!!!!!

I LOVED the original with Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel. The newer one with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick didn't really do it for me.

We enjoyed it but honestly liked the original better - or maybe we just liked Gene Wilder better ;)

Hard to say whether or not you will like it but DH and I both enjoyed it.

Could see that the stage show would be a lot better. The movie was OK, but not great. It was good for a few laughs. I love musicals, but this one is rather cheesy. :happytv: And politically incorrect, which is its humor :)

Yes!!! It was completely stupid AND completely funny!

I loved it!!! --- Don't expect fine art... just enjoy!!

:crazy2: BLECH :crazy2: Didn't like it. The whole thing just struck me wrong. My kids think it's sooooo funny and even Dh thought it was pretty funny, but I didn't get it. Now if you want something that is really funny and a little on the edge, rent The Birdcage. Now that movie cracks me up!

:thumbsup2 I loved it!!!

Saw the Broadway musical and I think they did a pretty fair job of translating it to screen, very old fashioned movie musical.....if you take out the politically incorrect jokes ;)

Of course my friends and I saw the movie at a time when we were working on a production of Cabaret....so perhaps we just enjoyed getting to laugh at the same serious subject matter we were working with :happytv:

I thought the remake was okay but I liked the original a lot better. It's a nice, silly movie :)
