How to you tame dry, brittle, thick hair?

I reccomend Herbal Essences. They have different shampoos & conditioners for different kinds of hair.

Hey, Jennifer, I just turned 47, so I guess I'm your big sister!:goodvibes

I tried that Christophe sample conditioner this morning (after washing my hair with shampoo)...still frizzy! I think I may give your suggestion a try. Is there any particular conditioner you use?

When you think about it, rinsing your hair with conditioner does seem like it could do the job...

Hey Karla,

I don't have any siblings (my younger sister died 20 yrs ago), so I'd love to have a big sister!

I've been using Schwartzkopf(?) Silk Conditioner, and it's doing a good job. Washed my hair again this morning (I only wash my hair every 3/4 days) and it's looking good yet again :woohoo: . I definitely recommend giving it a try...

Keep us/me "posted" on how it turns out?

Hi, Jennifer--

Do you mean you wash your hair with conditioner every 3-4 days? Or shampoo every 3-4 days and conditioner only on the other days? I honestly don't think I could stand not doing something with my hair in the shower each day! But, tomorrow, I'm going to faithfully try your conditioner-instead-of-shampoo method.:thumbsup2

Schwartzkopf conditioner? Hmm, we don't have that brand here, so I hope my Vive conditioner will work...or I'll give the Christophe sample another try. I think the only Schwartzkopf I know of is General Schwartzkopf--who was more famous during the 1st Gulf War. I can't imagine a conditioner being named after him!!!:rotfl:

Sorry to hear about your younger sister passing...must have been devasting. (I'm thinking you were about 22 at the time? My mother died when I was 23.) I actually have 2 half-sisters who are biologically unrelated to each other. I welcome you as my honorary Aussie sister!:goodvibes

I'll let you know how my experiment(s) go...I don't know how long to wait for results.

My hair is the same way! The only thing that makes it look really healthy is straightening it! Unfortunately I have so much hair that doing so takes over an hour.

I use nexxus keraphix, john frieda secrect weapon, neutrogena one minute hair repair, fredric fekkai olive oil glossing cream,
neutrogena healing shine serum,,,, LOVE that stuff

Yes, I only wash my hair every couple of days - but no shampoo - just conditioner. My suggestion would be to keep washing your hair as frequently as you normally do ie: daily/2nd day/3rd day (whatever) and see how it goes.

I've never washed my hair everyday, because it's always been so frizzy and dry and it's always looked at it's best on the 2nd/3rd day after I wash it. You never know, I may have to change to washing more frequently now - so far so good though...

Sorry to hear about your mum/mom dying when you were still young. My mother and I are the only ones left in our family (she had no siblings). She's coming up 80yrs now, and I'm not sure how I'll cope when she dies... She's still going strong for now - although she lives in New Zealand (where we're originally from), so I only see her once or twice a year. She does email though, so we can stay in touch...

Regards (from your Aussie sister)

Omigosh, I could have written that OP! I've got similar hair issues, but have had some good success by only shampooing my hair every 2nd day, or as needed (after I get it professionally colored, I note that I don't have to wash every day). I use L'oreal's Smoothing Shampoo for Dry, Frizzy Hair, and follow that with conditioner. Once a week I do a deep conditioning with Neutrogena's Moisturizing Treatment which I leave in for 30 minutes.

But...the absolute best of the best I've used is "Kerastase" Oleo Relax Shampoo, Conditioner & Serum...it is absolutely amazing. A little pricey but you can get some great deals on Ebay.

I have recently found the best conditioner ever (through another message board recommendation). And it is cheap!!! It comes in a jar, and it is a really thick, pink conditioner called "Cholesterol." Don't ask me why it is named that?! It is so deep-conditioning, I have dropped all of my other "expensive" conditioners and am exclusively using this daily! Try it, you won't be disappointed!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks again for the continued suggestions! I tried washing my hair this morning with conditioner instead of shampoo as advised by TrixieBell and--guess what!--my hair actually looked manageable (goal 1 of 10) today!!! It doesn't look like it's in great condition, but this was only the first day I tried the conditioner-only method.

I'll keep note of the other suggested products, too.
