After reading the thread on ice chests/coolers, I am feeling like really dumb because I had no idea peolple are cooking meals in their rooms! Not to make anyone upset but I am shocked that people are bringing microwaves, blenders and maybe even toasters into their rooms along with ice chests full of food to prepare. Sure, I bring juice boxes and fruit snacks to keep the kids happy but, we are on vacation, there will be no "cooking" meals in my hotel room!

I don't see anything wrong with coolers. Too much trouble for me but, the appliance people scare me!

Does any one else think that is dangerous to use kitchen appliances in a regular hotel room? Is it allowed to bring these items in? Worse case, what if a toaster starts a fire?

Also, am I the only one here who sees nothing wrong with spending a little bit more to eat out for breakfast lunch and dinner and consider it to be part of the fun while on vacation at WDW?? Eating at CG is a highlight of my trip::yes:: !

nope - I totally agree with you.
I'm on vacation - there will be no cooking done by me. =)

I can see non-perishable snacks or MAYBE even a deli sandwhich (especially when you have a crew of kids with you)

heck...I dont' even bring my hairdryer or flatiron with me...but a blender?

unless you are staying at a place that HAS a kitchenette (or kitchen) I don't think these things belong in hotel rooms. too much of a fire issue IMO.

We bring snacks, juice boxes and dry cereal (which we buy milk for each morning from the resort shop so we can eat breakfast in our room), but we would never dream of COOKING a meal in our room! I don't care what other people do, as long as they're not breaking any safety rules... But yes, when we are on vacation, we don't cook! ::yes::

LOL! This made me laugh, sorry! We, too, find the WDW restaurants to be a big part of our trip, and I would NEVER cook in a resort room. Sort of defeats the purpose, IMO!:p

We have brought a cooler in the past, when the whole family came with us, but since it is only DD and I now, we don't even bother. But, a car-load of kitchen appliances?! Please! The mental picture of carrying all this in and setting up is hysterical!

I suppose a toaster or blender is no more a fire hazard than a curling iron or hair dryer, but it doesn't seem like a good idea. Oh, well, whatever floats your boat, as my dad says!:teeth:

Oh, I agree! I think the strangest thing I ever read was a post by someone who was bringing an electric griddle with them so they could make pancakes in their room for breakfast!

I can understand wanting to save money on the trip but cooking in your room is not safe, or in my opinion, very sanitary. Get a place that has a kitchen/kitchenette for heaven's sake!

Personally, to me, vacation means NO cooking, NO cleaning, NO laundry, NO making beds.

[Even not on vacation my favorite thing to make for dinner is ...... reservations. ]

Wow. I never realized people actually brought microwaves and griddles into regular rooms! I always thought that folks who wanted to cook at WDW would either stay at one of the DVC resorts or the FW cabins, all of which already have kitchens.

Now I'm trying to picture somebody stubbornly trying to stuff a microwave in one of the overhead bins on an airliner!

I can't imagine taking kitchen appliances with me. I don't want to cook when I am on vacation, I don't even bring snacks for the kids. Part of the reason we haven't become DVC members is because I don't want to have a kitchen in my room. DH will probably want me to cook.

I always bring my electric griddle when staying in 2 bedroom villa (because it's easier to cook on with 8 people to feed) ...

When staying in a regular room in WDW, it's the little boxes of cereal or pop-tarts. That's as much money as I'm saving myself. The rest of the time we eat out! It's much more fun!

Bringing a microwave? Are you serious? Someone has actually done this?

I agree. I look forward to not cooking. We do bring a cooler with soda and some snacks {mostly what's left over from the road trip} I do admit we don't even think of leaving home without the travel coffee pot though. Just in case there isn't one in the room. DH and I cannot function until we have that first cup of coffee. LoL
But cooking in the room? No way. There are too many great food options at WDW.

We have done pop-tarts and cereal in the morning.
We buy milk in the resort gift shop and place it in a cooler
with ice the night before.
We bring plastic bowls and spoons.

We get a gift bag from the WDW florist with fruit and snacks
each time we go.

We do 1 sit-down meal each day - either lunch or dinner.
The other meal is eaten at the snack bar at a resort or
in WDW - like pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers and mac&cheese.

We are a family of 4 - DH, DW, DS & DD.
We plan $150 per day for food.

Some days are less $$'s. Others are more $$'s - like when we
do HDD. Any sit down PS required eatery cost about $75 for our family.

We also do an ice pop, ice cream, popcorn or some sort of
snack in the park each day.
Hey we are on vacation :) diets are out the door :teeth:

just our thoughts !

i wonder why mousekeeping doesnt report these people?? this is a major fire code violation!!

yeah HELLO while we might all be trying to SLEEP some one could be SETTING the building on FIRE> hello........give me a break. no really, they hav e micro. at food courts. They should def. stay at a place with a kitchen . i just dont get it. i dont even want to COOK when im HOME. it should def. be reported i believe because they are putting other peoples vacation on risk IF something should happen. oh by the way, we take the AMtrak Train down, so WE HAVE NO ROOM FOR COFFEE POTS,TEA POTS,MICROWAVES,GRIDDLES OR EVEN A SMALL WASHING MACHINE WHEN WE GO.................

Wow! People are really cooking in their regular resort room?! Pretty amazing to me considering we just stayed at Vero Beach in a room with a microwave, toaster, coffee maker and refrigerator, and I never did kitchen related more than grab a beer and a twisted Smirnoff out of the refrigerator. (I'd even brought microwave popcorn - but even that never got opened!)

i think its terrible that people are bringing electrical appliances to the resorts, there is a reason they do not allow these things in the rooms, they wont learn until they burn the place down!

Who would want to lug all that stuff with them? I try and pack as light as possible. I enjoy getting to eat out everyday and not having to cook. When the kids are with us, we buy candy, snacks etc...and cereal and milk for a couple days, but that is it. The only reason we do that is because if we don't the kids will be wanting every little thing they see, plus half the time they rarely eat all their food so that would be a huge waste.

It's like that new commercial I saw yesterday for FedEx and Kinkos. It shows two employees apparently on a business trip, and they are standing at the baggage claim waiting for their bags, when all of a sudden all this office equpment starts coming out and this guy is trying to grab it all, fax machines, printers and finally a huge office size copy machine comes barreling out as the woman (of course the "brains" of the outfit :) ) says: "we could use FedExKinkos for all of this....." Totally hilarious and analogous to these travelers bringing household appliances. Unreal.

This is making me laugh because when I was a kid, our family never went on vacation without our electric skillet. Cooking in the room was the only way we could afford to go on vacation. Mom would heat up canned beef stew and stuff like that in the room at the Motel 6. On the day we visited Chinatown in San Francisco, we came back to the room and Mom heated up canned chow mein. It's funny (and pretty white trash) to think of now, but when you're a kid, you think what your family does is perfectly normal.

Nope, no cooking. I don't even want to see a coffee pot!

I did bring a little coffee pot with me when I stayed at Pop Centure with my 4yo. They didn't supply coffee pots, I didn't want to drink Nescafe  , and wouldn't have wanted to bring my son with me first thing in the morning for coffee, anyway. As it turned out, my sister ended up meeting us there, but it was nice having good coffee first thing in the morning.

We also bring breakfast food and snacks, but no cooking. I can't even imagine doing that work and making that mess on vacation, not to mention the fire hazard since most people probably don't think to unplug before leaving the room.

I see nothing wrong with a blender in your room, hey mixed drinks can be expensive, it hardly takes up any room and it's not like someone is going to forget and leave the blender running all day and burn up the motor thus possibly being a fire hazard (how many curling irons do you think have been left on all day by accident?). We've never brought more than a cooler for our stay, but our next trip in a few weeks we are renting points from a DVC member and staying in a studio which has the microwave and mini-fridge, so we'll most likely be eating breakfast and lunch in the rooms (it was a spur of the moment trip and we want to be able to eat the nice sit down meals like 'Ohana and character dinners so we're saving a little moula this way). The space difference between a dvc studio and a regular hotel room is not that much. The only difference is as far as kitchen appliances being plugged in is maybe they have different types of outlets in the studios to accomodate the more energy using appliances?

We stay at the 1br DVC room which has a full kitchen, but the only thing we use is the refrigerater. Handy for milk and juice for breakfast. Once in a while we will use the microwave, but no cooking!
