I've owned DVC for 5 years now and DH and I normally stay in studios and take trips 2-3 times per year. We're currently expecting and we thought about booking a 1 bedroom for our next trip with baby who will be about 3 months. We figured this way we could relax in the living room when we come back to the room early and baby is sleeping.

The thing I can't get over is the increase in points from a studio to a 1 bedroom! :scared1: It's nearly double!

So my question is, for those who started out staying in studios how did you make the transition to a 1 bedroom without crying and feeling a bit ripped off?

Once you stay in a 1BR, you will understand WHY they cost more. :rotfl2: You will never want to go back to a studio again. We made the mistake of taking our first trip home, and staying in a 1BR..as we had 'extra' points to use up. WDW hasnt been the same for us since. :worship: We tried going back to a studio, several times. We would even split trips between studios and 1BR, to make it work. Last year...we finally did an ADD ON, and doubled our points. Now we will ALWAYS stay in a 1BR. We had more 'extra' points to use by by November this year....so, we booked a 2BR for the 3 of us this September. I hope we don't have a repeat of this 'situation.! :confused3

It's well worth the separate living room and bedroom, the whirlpool tub and separate shower, the king-sized bed, the washer/dryer, the full kitchen, the extra space...

I can't go back to Studios!

We had our children before DVC, it was in the '80's. I would have paid anything to have the luxury of having an extra room to keep the children in to nap while we could be in another room relaxing. We would camp outside the door in the hall!

Finally, late in the game, we "found" the trailers in FW. That was heaven!

Congratulations on your expected arrival!!!

The 1 bedroom sticker shock is real at first but it does go away. To me it is similar to being willing to pay more to stay onsite -- once you've said good-by to cheaper off-site rooms you never look back. Here's hoping that you get to find all of this out for yourself! :thumbsup2

Ditto what Bobbi said...Congrats!!! :cheer2:

As for the 1BR, I think my DH was like you. He couldn't imagine using up all our points to stay in 1BRs, but now he doesn't even question it when I make a reservation. To me it's heaven to have a washer to throw a load of wash in at night. It's so nice to pack light, have fresh clothes, etc. Especially in August (when we usually go) & it's so hot. It's a Godsend having the kitchen to make up snacks (I don't cook on vacation) & a big fridge for all our "beverages" ;). It's also wonderful to lounge around the living room & have coffee in the morning while the kids have breakfast at the big table. Honestly we realize now that having DVC allows us to have these accomdations that we couldn't otherwise afford on-site & we could never go back to staying in a studio or regular hotel room, unless it was just DH & I for a few days, then we could probably do it. :thumbsup2

Just buy more points and don't worry about it. :goodvibes

We own DVC for the nookie perk. Stay in an ordinary hotel room for a week with kids and you'll understand. Its worth every extra point.

ETA: Laundry in the room with kids is an added bonus too.

You get at least double the space, why would you feel ripped off?

We're working on a plan so I can stay home when baby arrives, so no new points for a few years!

I cam imagine the laundry in the room would be great with a baby. With just DH and I walking to the laundry room is not so bad, but I don't know if I'd want to do it with a baby.

I've stayed in a two bedroom a few times and while I loved it, I just can't get over the point difference! It looks like Savanna View rooms will be out for us! That I can't stomach!

Maybe if we work it out so I cam stay home we can travel in slower times!

I guess I never really thought of it in that way. I think I only looked at it in a room capacity way. As in I couldn't imagine spending double for a room that holds the same amount of people.

You mention savannah view rooms may be out of your league, but if you own at AKV, the value/standard views are bargains! With value, you have a chance of a room on the sunset savannah, with standard at Jambo, it will be pool. Try those as a compromise.

We have used weekend points more than many here, and for a long weekend with 3 adults, we've booked a value 1 bedroom at Jambo, and thought the cost was well worth it!

We just took our first trip home to SSR in a 1BR. Our kids are grown and make their own trips. Yes we were spoiled with the 1 BR we booked to eat up points. We asked our BiL and SiL to join us for a few days. Now our next trip is a studio to save points for a 1BR the following trip.
We will likely invite somone else for that trip as well

We have had studio and 1 bedroom, and ya the one bedroom is awsome with the space and all but like you the point thing bugs me cause I look at it as an extra 4 day trip in the same year if we stay in a studio. Least till we can add points!!

... and the dishwasher for bottle duty!

The one bedrooms are so nice. I have only stayed in a 1 bedroom. Our next stay will be in a studio. I think I'm going to miss the washer and dryer and the tub.

After staying in a 1 bedroom after staying in a Studio I added on more points to be able to stay in 1 bedrooms all the time, the whirlpool tub is awesome.

I spent a night in a 1 bedroom. Oh wow! What a difference!

Fortunately, we were able to afford adding on extra points so we weren't exchanging the larger room for fewer nights.
