Hi! Hoping someone here can help me. I am trying to download some fonts onto my computer. I can find the fonts (free ones!), I do the download, but then I don't know what to do so I can actually use them. :confused3 :surfweb: I am not very computer savvy, so if you can help me please do not be too technical!

When you downloaded the fonts, were they in *.zip format? If so, you need to unzip them first using either WinZip or WinRAR or something similar. If they're in *.ttf format, then you just need to get them into the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. Once they're in there can use them in your Word (or whatever program you're using) documents.

If you can't remember where you saved the font files, you'll need to do a search for them. If you need more specific help, let me know what version of Windows you're using (98, XP, etc) and I try to get back here to help you later today. :)

I sometimes find I need to actually open (just click on the font's icon when you've got the windows/fonts folder open on your desktop) the file in order for it to become "active" in Word. No idea why, but sometimes that does the trick! LOL! :cool1:

Well, technically Windows XP wants you to use the "Install New Fonts" feature in the File menu of the Fonts folder. I don't know why sometimes that's the only way to get a font installed & others you can just copy them into the folder. I never thought to just click on the font's icon. Like most Windows features, there's more than one way to do it...and just like most Windows features it doesn't always work! :lmao :lmao

this is what i have told a couple people in regards of how to download fonts... they claim it works perfectly for them!

- on your computer go to the "my computer folder" and click on the "control pannel option". from there you should click on the "fonts" folder. If you dont see the folder, you might have to click on the " Switch to classic view" link on the left hand side. Then the fonts folder should be there. Leave that window open! You should see lots of file looking objets in it already!

- now go online and find the font you want to use. click on it to download it and a window should come up asking if you want to open, save or cancel. Click open. Another window will come up with that file showing up. To the left there should should be something like "extract all files"- click that.

- It should bring up yet another window: something like a compressed folders exraction wizard (or something like that). hit next. hit next again, it doesnt really matter where it saves to. and then hit finish.

- another window will pop open with the file and it should be named- the type of font you chose. now click on that once, and drag it into your "fonts" folder you originally opened. It should say "installing ____ font" or something. after that window is gone, you should be finished. Look in a word application to see if your font is there.

that is exactly what i did... i hope it works for you. if not, i can try to be a little more clear if you would like. you can always PM me too if you want additional help. im ALWAYS on the disboards! haha.

GOOD LUCK!!!!
