How to down size pixs on Windows to fit for Avtar and postings?

Apparently all of my pictures are too big to fit for Avtars or postings. How do I shrink them below the 1 MB limit?

Apparently all of my pictures are too big to fit for Avtars or postings. How do I shrink them below the 1 MB limit?

I use Paint. But it can be done in Window Photo Viewer, also. And there are other programs.

In Paint, open the picture (in Paint), then click on "Resize". There you can change the percentage or pixel size. It's a little trial and error to find the correct numbers to make it smaller than 1MB as each photo can be different sizes to start with. Then just save it.
