How Scary is Ghost Galaxy?

So, I'll admit it, I am a sixteen year old girl and a total chicken. I really hate haunted houses, haunted corn mazes, anything of the like. Although, I love horror movies. Weird, right?

Anyways, we are going to Disneyland this fall, and Ghost Galaxy will be in affect. If it was another ride, I wouldn't bother, but Space Mountain is one of my favorites. Is it actually scary? Or will I have fun?

From what I remember a few years ago, it is pretty much ghosts that are on large tv like screens. Because of that it made me really sick

If you love Space Mountain anyways, you will be fine :thumbsup2

If you're really nervous you could try looking it up on YouTube

They are not happy Disney ghosts... but I didn't think it was that scary... it just kinda surprised me... the ghosts were more malevolent than I thought they would be.

Isn't the scariest thing about haunted houses, corn mazes, etc... the suspenseful anticipation that something will grab you? Nothing like that will happen on Ghost Galaxy. Nothing touches you at all! It's just Space Mountain with different music and animation. Basically, a giant space ghost that "sees" you and follows you around as your soar through space. He reaches for you, his space eye watches you, it's creepy-funny (IMO)! I love it! :)

The ghosts are more like demons. Look it up so you know....the faces are huge in there, but you can always close your eyes.

If I remember, There is also a different soundtrack that is spooky. I am a chicken (can't do horror movies, etc) and I had no problem.

I did it last year, and didn't think it was too bad. The ride is just the same, of course, it's just the backgrounds that are different. Mostly it's just pictures of this weird ghost, who is made up of different planets and stars, etc. I kind of didn't get the space ghost idea, so that made it considerably less scary. If you are sitting there pondering why such a thing would even occur to someone's imagination, you can't be too scared ;)
There is one part towards the end when the ghost kind of "jumps out" at you, but it wasn't too bad. I think if you like the ride, you should give it a try.
That said, I am skipping it for my DD3 this year, even though she is finally tall enough to ride. I think it is probably too scary for her. She loves roller coasters, but the atmosphere may be too much. But maybe we'll YouTube it and see!

It's not so much scary as it is eerie and disorienting. I have no issues riding SM, but when I ride SMGG, I lose my sense of balance momentarily afterwards and have been told I am not only.

HTH,
Dreams

Sounds like an adventure....will have to go with my 16 year old! Thanks for all the info posted about it.

My DD12 is scared to watch Ghost Hunters but she loves SMGG

My daughter rode SMGG for the first time when she was 5. I rode first, told her what to expect and as others posters have said - if it is scary for you - just close your eyes. She LOVED it. It is a pretty creepy ghost (definitely not Donald Duck in a sheet) but I loved it for Halloween. I also like that my least favorite part of SM (when you are climbing through the tunnel at the beginning and you the lights make you feel like you are spinning) is just lightning during SPMM:thumbsup2

If you like space mountain, you'll probably like Ghost Galaxy.
i enjoy Ghost Galaxy alot more than regular Space Mountain.

This is so subjective. I didn't think the Ghost Galaxy was scary at all -- just a bunch of video. But admittedly, I'm really not a fan of Space Mtn. :confused3

I didn't really think GG was very "scary", mostly because the glimpses of the ghost (definitely more like a demonic spirit) are so fast. For me, by the time I realized that the ghost was on the screen, the ride had moved on and it was gone!

Thanks so much for all your input, guys! I think I'll just have to toughen up and give it a shot-I'll probably regret if I don't. Wish me luck :scared:

If you like SM you will like GG. But, one thing everyone failed to mention was the waiting in line out side of the attraction. The exterior of SM screams, slashes open with claw marks and many other affects that I found awesome. I completely enjoy Halloween and think Disney did an awesome job on this one. :thumbsup2:tink:

I agree! I think some young children might be frightened and it is a bit eerie but I thought it was great and a nice change of pace. I think the soundtrack is very cool and what makes it scarier than the images.

DD5 rode SM for the first time in May 2011 (she was 4 then). She found it scary because it was dark (she's a coaster girl and a nightlight girl). On her 5th birthday, she finally got up the courage to try ToT - and she loved it - it's now one of her favorite rides! She rode SM again in May 2012 and liked it this go-around (even rode it again the next day). Our next trip will be during Halloween time, since she's a new convert to even tolerating SM, do you think I'll have a freaked-out kid on my hands if I take her on it?

I really want to ride it, as I have never been at Halloween time before. We're talking about doing the Photopass+ with some friends and I would love to have a ride photo of all of us (that are willing to ride it LOL - hopefully that will be 5 of us) on SM. Is the worst that could happen that she doesn't want to ride it again, or could nightmares ensue?

Great question OP. This will be our first time experiencing this ride and I have a DS who is 6. I will just tell him its Disney magic and he loves Space Mtn. We were there in May and he rode that, Screamin, and ToT for the first time and loved them so much we rode several times.
