How pitiful is this?

Sign of the times. Back in my day (in my old fossil voice) my parents couldn't afford to take us on vacation every year, so we went every second or third year.
We were down to go ANYWHERE no matter how long the car ride, short the trip etc... Now kids get to go and do so much, they are somewhat desensitized to it all. I see a lot of kids in WDW asking their parents to go back to the hotel and swim. It's just not as impressive to them as it was to bumpkins like us... lol

Wow! Adventurous or just crazy :duck:?
How long is the flight? Seems like a crazy, busy, hectic day for anyone.
Kudos to you for having the means and energy to pull that off.
Where is Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. I want some.
Jeni's has several stores in Ohio and Nashville. I can't remember which one we went to but it was close to the airport. We were only in OH for about 3 hours including airport time and driving to and from Jeni's.

Later that year, they were listed in Time Magazines top ten ice creams in the world.

We are in Maryland. Flight time to MCO is 2:10

I don't know. A visit to WDW for us is at least a week long thing. As much as I love WDW, the thought of flying down for one day isn't even on the same planet as a proper vacation. We need time to decompress and get the full proper experience of being in the Disney bubble. I've done the MK for a single day while I'm in Orlando for conferences and it just isn't the same. Fun? Yes, but not nearly the same.

I think I would turn it down too.

Dan

Yep, that's us...the perks of DH working for an airline.

OK, nooooow I get it. I was going to say there is no way I could afford it!! But considering the new info - heck yeah, I'd go!

Yeah, i think i'd have to agree. We're within driving distance (less than 2 hours) and rarely want to deal with the hassle of getting up early, driving up there, being in the park, then driving all the way back, getting to bed late, etc. I can't imagine trading out my own car for a plan seat and a trip through airport security. No thanks.

Within two hours driving...I would go all the time!

Oh man, YES! If I could just hop a flight when I wanted to like that, I'd be day or weekend tripping constantly! My brother's best friend is a pilot & I actually asked him to marry me once just for the flight perks. :rotfl:

:scratchin - hmmmm...

Dang, SW got rid of their late night flight back... I can get in around 9:30am but have to leave at 7:55 (which means be at airport by 7 which means leave DW at 6...

Earlier this week, I announce at the dinner table that I will be flying down to EPCOT for the day, Saturday...eat at the F&G food kiosks, pick up my AP F&G Festival print and fly home... Whose coming with me?

DH pretty quickly said no...he has been doing a lot of flying lately and just wants to stay home. DS (13) and DD (11) offer no response.

Last night I pushed them for an answer and they said they were going to stay home!

What the heck is up with this?!? Who turns down a day in Disney.

I'm still going, just trying to decide if I am going alone or inviting a friend to tag along.

I suppose anybody with a life would turn it down.

For me going for one day and then leaving would be too hard. I think I would leave disappointed. Perhaps that's how your DD and DS feel.

I suppose anybody with a life would turn it down.
But they don't have lives. DS would rather stay home and elders it my mother (which really means stay in his room and play video games most of the day) and DD will watch TV and sing along to her shows all day.

Funny story: years ago, I was at the Springfield, Illinois airport (a little closet of an airport) waiting for a friend to arrive, and I saw my friend Doug walk by. Doug is an American Airlines pilot, and he was wearing his AA employee badge. I asked him if he was on his way to work - nope, he said. Being an AA employee, he can walk on to any AA or affiliate airlines flight in the country, as long as there is a seat. He said he was hankering for In & Out Burger, so he was flying to Chicago to catch a flight to L.A., was going to take a taxi to In & Out Burger, get his munch on, then figure out how to get home.

Gee thanks. I now have a hankering for some In & Out Burger, and I don't work for the airlines.

Yeah I live in Indiana and SW has a nonstop to Las Vegas which has an In-n-Out like 5 minutes from the airport... 4 hour flight, get a burger, a little gambling, a few drinks, hit Noodles at Bellagio for a snack and then back on another 4 hour flight... NO NO NO... bad thoughts...

(It's a good thing it's practically $500 round trip these days as it used to be $180 round trip...)

I am right there with you except the flying part, too expensive and hate dealing with airports. However it is not uncommon for us to drive 2-3 hours for a day and then return. And even though it isn't exactly the same, I did a one day trip to WDW a few years ago. Hopped on the motorcycle after work, drove 8 hours to WDW, got up next morning and hit 3 of the 4 parks and had dinner at Chef Mickeys. Next morning it was packed and back on the road at 7:30am for another 8 hour+ ride home. I was tired, but it was a very fun weekend.
