How old were you when you bought your first house?

Wow. I feel behind. I'm only 23 and I haven't even began saving for a downpayment on a house. Heck, I just graduated college. I'm just trying to adjust.

DH and I found our first house on his 25th BDay (I was already 25). I hated it. It was 980 square feet and had green siding. But we were renting an old house from my parents and DH, though he loves them, wanted something of our own. We were able to assume the mortgage (almost unheard of now) and got it for $42,900 in 1988!
There are so many advantages to owning. I knew right away we wouldn't be there forever. We put gas heat in, new siding and windows, and sold it 2 1/2 years later for $63.900. Bought another house for $91,000, sold it 7 years later for $119,000. Bought this house for $180,000--have absolutely no plans to move; we've been here 8 years and supposedly it is worth $240,000 (although we'd need to do some inside cosmetic work to sell it--after all, we do LIVE in it).
I drive by that first house sometimes (the only thing I miss is that tree I planted that is huge now) and can't possibly imagine having 3 kids in that little crackerbox. But the price was certainly right and we wouldn't have ended up here if we hadn't started there, know what I mean?

I was 28 and DH was 31. Late 20's/early 30's seems to be the average age around here amongst the people I know because of the cost of homes.

My fiancee and I bought our first house in November. I was 29 and she was 25. A few relatives didn't think we could do it because of he price of the house, but we have since proved them wrong.

I turned 20 yrs old 2 weeks before we bought our first house and my DH was 26 yrs old.It as 1000 sq ft and had a wonderful yard .We ended up living in our "starter home" until our fourth child was eight months old.

We're closing Monday on our 1st home! We're so excited!

I am 25, DH will be 27 soon. I didn't think we'd own a house so soon in this area, but a great deal came along unexpectedly and we decided we could make it work, and that it will be worth it to own.

I was 27, DH was 26 when we signed the papers for the lot. By the time we moved in, we were 28 and 27. They built the wrong house on our lot so that set things back a few months. Don't even get me started........

I bought my first house as a single parent at the age of 28. When my dh and I married 3 years later he bought his first house at the age of 24. Yep he was younger. We ended up renting out the first house and living in the second house.

Don't worry you have plety of time. Houses were not nearly as expensive when I was 25 as they are now that I am 51. With you going out into the work force after graduating college I bet you catch up in a hurry.

I was 20, dh (well boyfriend at the time) was 22. We bought a townhouse for $44000. Talk about missing that payment!!! We bought our first single family house 2 years later.

24, but we're fortunate that we inherited family land to build our house. (Also, inherited family property in Hawaii. There's a theme here. lol)

Technically, age 32 for our 2nd home which my dh and I bought ourselves - land and house.

I was 29 when I bought my first house. Things have changed since then. At that time, a mortgage company wouldn't even consider you unless you had a 20 percent down payment. Now, they give out mortgages with very little down payment.

Wow! I'm also surprised at how young so many of you were. I was 24 when I bought my first condo, and I was the first of any of my friends, by far. Dh didn't own a home until he and I bought our first (and current) house together when we were 30.
