How old is too old for a stroller?

I think that another point worth making is that WDW is NOT the everyday nomal lifestyle. Most people would not put a 5-year old in a stroller everytime they head to the mall but WDW ,for many,is a once in a life time or a few times in a childhhod trip. At WDW, all the rules go out the window. At home Ds would not have ice cream for lunch, but at WDW it happens sometimes. One year at WDW he wanted to wear his same Mickey Mouse t-shirt every day. WHY NOT. ( I did wash it out several times:rolleyes: ). His fondest memory of WS is that on our first trip he got to have a beaver tail for dinner one night. Ridding in a stroller for one week in not going to make a child obese. At WDW our goal is to make sure everyone has the best possible time. Kids can understand the rules are different than they are at home.
I tried to talk my DS, then about 8 ,into ridding in a stroller at WS one night. He was tired and wanted to go back to the room. I wanted to see the WS. He however would have been fine ridding around for a few hours. He said no way was he ridding in a stroller so we headed back to the resort, but it's everyones' trip. If it makes your trip better, go for it.

What SCHMECK said was

It was not equating obesity to a stroller. People, please read before you get sooooo defensive.

You're right, but the fact is that they brought it up on a board asking a question about whether or not to use a stroller. They were obviously making some sort of connection or they would have never brought the obesity thing up in this topic. The point is, my kid CAN walk, DOES walk, IS NOT fat, obese, lazy or otherwise and DOES use a stroller in WDW at the age of 5.

Oh my, when I posted my original question, I had no idea that people would have such passionate opinions.

Thank you to those who responded. I can see both sides - I'll know better once we get closer to the date we go. He may prefer to walk by then... (my daughter, who just turned 2, seems to be the one who will ditch her stroller early, while my son seems pretty content to sit, lol).

For the record, my son is average or just below average weight for his height and age. He runs and plays all day at pre-K, and we also have a 1/4 acre park-like backyard with swingset and swimming pool, so physical fitness is not a challenge for him. He does enjoy watching his cartoons and eating snacky types of foods, but I don't think those are direct contributors to his wanting to sit in a stroller because his legs are tired. I think, at his age, he hasn't quite learned how to pace himself, and I see him going 150% for awhile and then he'll hit a "wall" and that's it. If he were younger, he'd probably have a tantrum, but at his age, it manifests itself as a whiney "My legs are *tired*".

And if I could get away with it, I'd put ME in a stroller by the end of a long day of touring. Don't your legs feel like jello by the end of Illuminations when you're trying to make your way out of the park? ;)

you're still missing the point. What schmeck was saying is the a 9 year old in a stroller is not the cause of obesity, but rather a aymptom of the lazy sedentary lifestyle lead by too many children and allowed by too many parents. She (or I for that matter) was not talking about YOUR kid, or whether he/she "CAN walk, DOES walk, IS NOT fat, obese, lazy or otherwise and DOES use a stroller in WDW at the age of 5." We really do not care. We were responding to a question by the OP.

What's wrong. You don't have the guts to post your lies and insults here so you PM me with them. Your PM just proved what type of person you are.

I have not lied anywhere nor have I run and hide from this thread. Be a man and put your accusations, insults and name calling right here so everyone can see your true colors.

If the kids have a hard time keeping up, maybe we adults should slow down a bit so that they are setting the pace. And if the kids are tired, find a sitting activity or head to the pool. Smell some roses, folks.

Reading is fundamental, cupcake. I posted everythread where the topic has come up. Go back & look. I wanted to post to you in a PM to keep it off the boards, but your are a souless person who loves to make a spectacle of herself. So, you post about a PM on the boards. Now EVERYONE will see how you really are! Thanks for the helpo! You lie, & you insult, & you do not have the guts to admit you were wrong.

Where did I lie? Care to use something called facts, instead of your mud slinging?

Well, cupcake, I did so by linking every thread, but I'll help so out, since you're a little slow.

LIE:
I think all one has to do is look at the thread on child harnesses that you caused to get locked to see who does not play well with others.

I was not the cause. Overly defensive people were. When they do not like a direct answer to a direct question (that they didn't even ask in the 1st place), they start insulting.

LIE:
Your showing your typical behavior however, I use your own tatics agaisnt you

You're not smart enough to understand ma "tactics" as is obvious from your postings, so you cannot (by definition) use them against me.

LIE:
wdwdvcdad ... I think you missed a dose or 2 of your meds.

Not on any

LIE:
Calling parents names and insisting they are using dog leashes on their children is not a polite response.

I never called anyone names. I was answering a direct question about leashes & parenting. One of threads was titled "am I a bad parent if I use a leash". What can you not understand here? And, I was very mannerly.

LIE:
You did plenty of name calling on the child harness thread.

Never did ANY name calling.

LIE:

A child harness is not a dog leash no matter how many times you repeat your nonsense.

Yes, it is.

LIE:
Your good old double standards at work again.

No double standard at all. You are entitled to your misguided beliefs. I just won't be attacked.

Hope that helps you out. I'll wait patiently for your appology. :wave2:

thank you. I tried to handle it via PM, but my friend, Sha_lyn chose to make it a public forum. You post is very appropriate, though.:D

I'll try to keep it on a PM level, as I tried to do, but I am concerned that my friend will not. Hope this clears things up, & I am sorry people have to deal with her silliness.

Okay folks -- this is one of those topics where there are lots of opinions. Do you want mine?

When I took my kids for their first trips they were each 5. (Older one is now 9.) I took an cheap umbrella stroller with me. I bought it specifically for the trip -- we would not have used it at home but I knew that with our commando pace it would be far easier to have stroller for resting rather than having an unhappy child. I was so happy to have the stroller. On the last trip the older one wished she could use the stroller too, although she was far too big and was certainly fine walking. We ended up leaving the stroller behind before we headed home since it had really taken a beating and we no longer needed it.

Keep in mind that what is being offered here are personal opinions and personal opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one. While the wide and varied range of opinions is definitely welcome on the boards, the personal attacks that can follow are not. As CluvsJ was kind enough to point out, the DIS does not permit personal attacks on the boards.

So ladies and gentlemen I am giving you a warning. Please refrain from personal attacks or I will shut this thread. Have a nice day!

Well to each his own....

my dd hasn't used a stroller at home since she was about 3..but at WDW she always is using one....we spend 7-10 days in WDW and she just gets tired. She is the youngest of 4 kids and sometimes gets tired of the pace the others set...Yes we could slow all 3 of the older kids down but that would be a battle....I is much easier to put my dd in a stroller...she is on the small side even for almost 7....We are planning on going back in Dec and if I can get away with it (translates to if she wants too) I will definately take her WDW stoller one last time...

Just curious about when you are going to WDW next?

Just wondering if we would be there at the same time and if you will be wearing a lime green Mickey head with your screen name on it, like so many other DISers, so that we can all recognize each other. Will you?
:teeth: ;)

Nah, I don't wear them. ( now I'm worried you want to run over my toes or something with your stroller or string me up with a child leash:eek: )

I believe it was my thread that got closed re the 'dog leash' episode. Whenever I go shopping with my four year old my head is swivelling around like I am trying out for a part in The Exorcist. I have an almighty fear of losing him, we have had an instance in the UK where someone tried to snatch a child that was actually holding their parents hand.

After reading these boards I have changed my mind about renting a single stroller and am thinking about renting a double stroller. My children are 9,6 and 4, now I may not use the stroller at all but then again as I say we are coming from the UK, its May 23rd and its about 19oC outside, we are going to wilt very quickly in the Florida heat. Alright we hit the mid to late 30's last summer but that was almost unheard of. Our average is about 25oC. So for me the stroller will be just in case. Our first park is going to be Animal Kingdom this Sunday so we will just see how it goes and like I say if I need to hire a double buggy I will. However, my husband has now agreed that maybe a trip back to our villa for a two hour recharge might be in order.

I was wondering the same thing about strollers. My DD just turned 5, and though she is a bundle of energy most times, I think that all of the excitement of an 8-night, 9-day all Disney immersion will exhaust her.

We are travelling by plane with limited space (7 of us in all)! Do you think that going day by day is a good alternative?

DD may surprise us all and outlast the adults!!!

31 days until CB!!! Yea!!!princess:
