How often unwanted HA or smoking rooms?

I want to get an idea of how often people get unwanted HA or smoking rooms. I'm not sure how to word a poll to get an accurate result.

Please post whether you've ever been given an unwanted smoking room or HA room.

ALSO POST how many times you've stayed at DVC using points (and specified nonsmoking as a preference) so we can get an idea of the PERCENTAGE of stays involved.

Finally, post if you've been in a nonsmoking room that had been smoked in.

Please DO NOT POST your opinion about nonsmoking and HA room issues. There are other threads for that. Let's keep this clean and informative. Maybe iankh will do a real poll for us on this question.

Stayed at OKW for 30+/- trips

Received smoking room once, but it was my choice since it was available at 8am and a non-smoking room was not. I've always requested non-smoking.

Received HA room about 3 or 4 times (10% to 12%). Requesting ground floor accomodations at OKW seems to increase the chance of HA rooms. I've never specifically requested non-HA rom.

We have had 20+ stays at OKW and have always requested and gotten non-smoking. I have also had to request 1st floor several times for health reasons, and in 3 1st floor stays we never got a HA room.

I requested a first floor villa 2x, after Mom had hip surgery. HA studios have 2 queen beds, just like a regular studio, but limited counter storage and a roll-in shower.

Now I generally request 2nd floor villas. That works well for Mom, a third floor villa is too much.

15 stays, between BWV, OKW, VWL. When I make the reservation my only request is non smoking. I've always gotten non smoking and have never been given a HA room.

I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

dianeschlicht and Chuck S, thanks for the information. I will request a first floor studio for mom and my DSis. HA or not, they will each have their own bed, that's what's important for this trip.

We've stayed 3 times now (BWV x2 and BCV) and got an unwanted HA once, our most recent trip to a 1BR standard view at BWV. We had non-HA noted and when we checked in the CM told us the room wasn't ready, but it was N/S and non-HA.

When we got there, however, it was an HA unit. I went back up to the desk and asked the CM if it was a mistake, but she said "no". It overlooked Leaping Libations, so I assume it was a preferred view, not standard.

So in a sense, we got an "upgrade" albeit unintentionally...

10 trips, request non-smoking, H/A.

got smoking once, got non-H/A once (not the same trip).

We don't list H/A as a necessity, as we can get by in a non-H/A. Our daughter is in a wheelchair,and while the H/A works better generally, there are aspects of the non H/A studios that work well for her (having the tub). We make due with whichever we get.

The smoking room we got was barely noticeable.

Edited to add, the smoking room was during peak season with a relatlvely late check in.

3 trips to BCV; booked two room villa; requested non-smoking got non-smoking all three times; no HA.

3 trips to BCV; booked studio; requested non-smoking, got non-smoking all three times; HOWEVER did get HA on last trip.

We have been to WDW at least 2x/year since 1991, and been to DVC properties at least 2x/year since 1997.

So, figure close to 30 trips(some years we went more often) and in 30 trips I have never gotten a smopking room, either at aregular resort or a DVC resort. IN 30 or so trips, I have gotten a HA room maybe 4 times, and never in a DVC resort. The times I have been in a HA room, I was staying at a regular hotel (WL, CSR, POR).

HA rooms don't really phase me. I am just happy to be at WDW!!!!!

We've stayed on points 2 times, both at SSR, requested NS.

Never got HA.

1 time we got NS, the other we got S. (Note: we were asked is S was OK and we said 'yes').

We've stayed at DVC exactly 10 times and been given a Handicapped Accessible room 3 times (without being told), and given a smoking-optional room after requesting a non-smoking (again, without being told) once. Fortunately we couldn't smell any smoke in the non-smoking room and only later discovered it was smoking-optional. But we weren't happy abput being given HA without being told-we'd always been told in "regular" hotels, even DH who travels ALOT for business has been told. It's our only unhappiness with DVC, but it's far outweighed by the pluses. I just wish they could straighten out this little glitch of not telling members what type of room they're getting, or that certain requests (I guess non-smoking is still considered a request) aren't met.

Same trip, studio for one night at last minute. Received HC.

6 DVC trips - never got a smoking or an HA room. However, I got paranoid with the posts I was reading about this, so this past trip when we checked in the room wasn't ready, we hung around for awhile, and when we checked back after lunch she said room was ready and I specifically asked her to make sure it was NOT an HA. She said definitely not and it wasn't. This was the first time I ever checked to make sure it wasn't an HA and I did that because of the experiences posters were talking about.
Great rooms every time (at BWV & OKW)!

Got: nonsmoking both times, neither room handicapped.

AT POLY, AKL, Port Orleans: numerous trips since 1978, always had nonsmoking whether we requested it or not . Always had the requested view...tho at these resorts you pay extra to requsest a certain view.
