How much to Tip the room cleaner?

I don't know the proper term if staying off-site but I was wondering how much you leave each day for them to clean the room if you are 2 adults no children in a somewhat budget hotel.

Do you still tip if one day you decide that you can make your own bed. I sometimes don't want the person in the room. We keep it pretty neat.

So how much do you leave as a tip?

Hi Sam, and welcome back. Standard is typically a dollar a day per person. If I travel solo, I double or triple up.

I was leaving $3 a day for our room because it was a minisuite and they were really good at their job. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't stiffing anyone.

As Dan mentioned, we follow the rule a dollar per person per day. We are a family of three so we tip $3 a day. I have never stayed in a hotel by myself, so I don't know what I would do if it were just me.
