A girlfriend of mine's son is graduating college with his Associates in Buis. Administration...she is not very close with him. :guilty:
She is wondering what to give at his Graduation Party....is money what is given most? And if so how much??

For college graduation, my Mom bought me a nice leather attache, my Dad gave me the title to the car I had been driving, my Aunt gave me a set of pots and pans. Otherwise, I didn't really get anything.

Something that your friend's son could use for work or in his home would be a nice gift. Cash is always a much appreciated gift for graduation -- there are so many expenses with moving to a new area and starting a new job!

Perhaps your friend might consider writing her son a letter to let him know how much he means to her?

I think money is great, practical gift for a recent grad. She should give whatever she can afford.

Money is always appreciated. I think that along with money she should give him a small memento that he will have long after the money is spent.

I know around here people either give gift cards for places like Target or Bed, Bath & Beyond so they can buy stuff for their dorm. Or cash.
Depending on how close you are to this person, that would depend on how much.

Cash for a recent college grad, as much as she is comfortable giving, along with a letter telling him how proud she is. Even if she " isn't close" to her son, she should acknowlege this accomplishment. Feelings can (and do) change over time. This is a great opportunity for her to show him she cares. He'll never forget it.

as a recent college grad who moved out of the house a few months after graduation... i think that what really helped the most was definitely money, but also people gave me gift cards to target (among other places) and those were definitely one of the most valuable things i could have gotten. you never know when you're going to need something from target and not have any money on you. any place where he can buy something furniture wise or something to decorate his apartment (i'm assuming he's moving out of the house?) is great. gift cards to go out to dinner would also be a great thing. i know i got some gift cards to go to panera's, which i definitely used!
