My wife and I are planning a trip to WDW in the near future, she has never been there and last time I was there was about 15 years ago. We plan on staying on the grounds, but are not renting a car. We were thinking 7 to 10 days? Would we be able to take in Universal Studios too? What is the best way to get from a on grounds resort to Universal Studios (cost too)?

With 7 to 10 days there, you should be able to get time to go to Universal for a day.

Last I did that with no rental car, I arranged to have Mears take me. They do regular trips from WDW resorts to Universal. They will take you there and back. I don't remember the cost, but if you call them, they can tell you.

Have a fun trip!!

I think you can rent a car in the airport, use it a couple of days to go to Universal, then drop it in WDW (you can do this with National), and then visit the Disney parks. I'm sure this way is cheaper and more confortable.

Renting a car is a very good idea. We're heading to WDW for 10 days and renting a car the whole time with all taxes, a free tank of gas and all insurance and extra costs, coming to just over $300.00 USD. Thats worth it to me just for the ease of having a car there.

Plus we can get to outside restaurants whenever we want (save $$) and we can visit outside supermarkets for meals and snacks (see above) and finally we don't have to pay for a ride to Universal when we go.

I think it's a good idea to rent a car. Costs a little more, but saves a lot too....

You should have plenty of time to do Disney and USF and IOA. I usually alot 5-6 days to do Disney. This is just DW and I, no kids. We also did it a little commando style--up early, hitting the major attractions first, and staying late. USF and IOA could probably be done in 2-3 days, depending on crowds.

If you're going with kids or want to do things a little more leisurely you might have to make some sacrifices (such as not doing every country at Epcot, or skipping some of the rides). But, even so you should be able to do a great deal. And if you don't see everything (which you never do) it just gives you a reason to go back.

We used Mears last year to go to Universal. It was $12 pp roundtrip.
