How much has the Dis Photo Board cost you?

I've done a lot of lurking on here and it seems like the NAS bug pretty much bites everybody who spends a few hrs in the Photography Section. What I want to know is if it weren't for the Dis, how much would you have saved (not spent) till now? It's just for fun (although, if my wife finds this post I may not be able to play with you guys anymore!)

I'll start. Looking at the pictures from these posts, I wanted to get into the DSLR world. I just hopped into it almost 2 weeks ago and am LOVING it! Of course I'm already looking at monopods, lenses, etc...

Between camera, 2 lenses, lowepro slingshot bag, memory, and remote release I could have paid a mortgage payments and maybe car insurance for one car for a month. :scared1:

If not for the Dis I'd probably still be using a camera that fit in my pocket for about $100

$54.00. I bought a neutral density filter after reading about them here. It wasn't necessarily something I bought for Disney, but more for something for me to play with and do some different kinds of shots, but I bought it all the same. :)

Otherwise, the NAS bug had already bitten before I even found these boards. :D

i'd rather live in blissful ignorance.:) so i don't keep track

i don't remember what made me come here in the first place but it kind of pushed me back into photography so imo that is priceless.

I wouldn't want to ever embarass anyone by any means! I just was talking to someone the other day and he pretty much told me that he could have bought a Town Car with the equipment that he had. :lmao:

I used to be in the rut of researching, pricing, ordering, etc. new gear more than actually taking pictures. Not because of the DISboards specifically but just due to an interest in photography.

Fortunately that has mostly ended. I've also sold several lenses/cameras along the way which I use to justify some of the expenses. ;)

Thats a tough question to answer. I think most of the equipment I have I would have purchased regardless. However ... some of the purchase choices I made were definately DIS board influenced. The camera bag I purchased (Kata DR467) was from a thread I posted here asking what bags people had that they liked. I would have purchased a bag regardless but the responses from that thread gave me a much wider selection from which to choose. I probably would not have found the Kata on my own. There have been a few lens choices also that were influenced by DIS members .. again something I was looking for but in the end by reading all the threads here I learned about more possibilities for what I was looking for. I have been in and out of the SLR world, both film and digital since high school (in the 70's) but I can definately say one thing the DIS (and all the talent I see here) has done for me since I found it is it has kept me more focused on photography and what I want to achieve with this hobby. For me any amount of money spent in the end I am quite sure has been and continues to be returned to me 100 fold for what the boards has done for me in terms of inspiration, focus and knowledge.

I hope I can be that level headed this time next year right before out next trip! Or at least sound like it:laughing:

Very well put! I know it will be years before I can hang with all you big shots (no pun intended) but for now I'm still giving new meaning to the learning curve. One day I hope to be able to give back in some way, maybe even learn enough myself to give tips to the next generation of newbies such as myself. Till then my eyes will remain tired, as I read everything I can come across from the dis archives. :worship:

You sure?

If you are wanting me to agree with you that this board is the cause and effect for my camera purchases and it will make YOU feel better then yes this board has cost me a lot of money! If I am being honest the fine people on this board may infuence my decisions but trust me it is all my decision.

Just don't tell the wife!:thumbsup2

This board has cost me a ton of $$$. Actually it was the Resorts Photo thread that started me off. I used to be happy with my old Canon pns set always on Auto until I saw the photos on there by ZackieDawg and Matthew_Hull and I knew I had to try to do what they did. Then I found this board and knew that I had to have this that and the other. :)

A lot of the purchases I have made came from Gdad's posts... :upsidedow Thanks to him () I started off in the vastly confusing (to me) world of black and white film photography. I probably would have been better off if I hadn't stated in the first place, but at least now I'm having fun, and my NAS has finally abated.

This board is excellent for me though - I have learned more from here than from any of the other forums I belong to. My photography has improved dramatically, and I always look forward to learning more from the pro's on here. :goodvibes

never enough:rotfl:

Since I've been on the board from it's beginning. Yup, that old. At that time I had a few SLRs my second digital and was on my second or third video camera....think..think..think..

sorry, I can't count that high:teacher:
I do know that every trip I take to WDW I add another piece of equiptment. This past August trip was a Kata 3n1 20 to replace my big Domke. October might bring another tripod.

I can't think of anything I've bought because of this board. If you count the revenue from picture sales related to this board, I think I've actually made money here. Of course, I already had a pretty serious camera gear buying habit before I showed up here.

$11.58. After reading my trip report, Code suggested I purchase some gels for my flash. I wouldn't have purchased them otherwise.

:rotfl2: I'm loving this post!

Mark, I'm thinking you're more of an enabler than a shopper anymore :lmao: A while back I showed my wife a pic of you walking around the parks with all your gear on. My wife told me to get the kit lenses and be happy :rotfl2:

Side note, I've gone over many of your tutorials and I wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do all of that! It really helps us new guys out ALOT! :thumbsup2
