We dined w/ friends at Flying Fish. One person wanted a cup of tea. We should have suspected something when the server went to get the "Tea List". One tea bag, which the package said makes two servings, a pot of water and a cup = $5.95 charge. I think FF should be ashamed of itself.

That's what specialty teas in all the signature restaurants cost. Plus Boma and Sanaa, which are not signatures but have great tea lists. So it is not Flying Fish you should have a beef with.

I won't even say what I just paid for tea at Victoria & Albert's.

That is pretty pricey for tea bags. If they're going to make it all fancy priced, then they should use loose leaf teas.

Really? They didn't give it to you in a press pot of loose leaf tea? That's what happened when we ordered tea at both Narcoossee's and Jiko.

And they also gave us a little box of white sugar, raw sugar, honey, Sweet 'n' Low, Equal, *and* Splenda (yes, all 6), plus asked us whether we wanted milk or cream.

I don't see how that's different than paying $6 for a cappuccino.

i will pay that for a real capp and a real cup of tea from loose leaf, but the thought of paying that for a tea bag....

I know it's crazy, but they can command the price when people pay it :confused3
The prices are on the menus and lists...when in WDW we try to be aware of the prices~ we know there might be some things we don't want to pay that much for, even at a signature restaurant.
Think about it, we pay almost $3 for a bottled water at WDW too...

~and a little OT, but I paid $3.95 for a venti hot tea at Starbucks the other day, didn't want to but I was standing out for 3 hrs. at a marathon and it was ccoold! I sucked the price up for some warmth!

All the food prices are crazy but it's supply and demand. If you want it, you pay it. :sad2:

I paid $4 for a bag of basic black tea and hot water at a sports stadium recently. Yes - it was priced way over the top, but it was the only counter serving tea or coffee (they charged the same price for coffee). Supply & demand :upsidedow Then the water was so hot - I couldn't even drink the tea for 2 hours.

I agree that loose leaf, in a press pot can command whatever price you will pay, but there is no way that a tea bag cup should be double the cost of a basic cup of coffee, in the same restaurant. DH's coffee was $3 and change. He even got an offer of a refill. Cat Cora's new place also offers a $3 cup of tea.

BTW... we had dinner at AP tonight...great meal and all of the teas (on a tea list) were $2.19

As the chick selling blood bag/jello shots at Universal last week told one guy that was complaining: "you're in a theme park, what do you expect?"

When I ate at Sanaa in June, we paid $5.95 for tea (well, kind of, we were on the DxDDP).

It was looseleaf tea - I'm thinking it was the Mango Roobos? It came in the cutest little teapot with a strainer inside of it.

My friend had at least two cups from the pot.

Yes, that's what I got at Jiko last week. I just asked for a cup of tea, expecting a tea bag, and he pointed out the fancy teas on the back of the menu for $5.95, and told me that those were my only options. But the tea came in a press pot, an oval dish with 2 kinds of sugar cubes, cream, and honey. Since I live in an area of the country where many resturants don't even serve hot tea, and the world seems sometimes to be geared to coffee drinkers, I thought this was a thrill. I was so excited I went back to my room and called DH to tell him "I found the tea equivalent of going to Starbucks!"
