How much Disney Is Too Much Disney?

If you love it and get it, don't let others dissuade you. I have 4 trips planned this year. The first trip was in February and the next one is our BIG trip in May.

Every trip brings a new experience and I absolutely LOVE IT!

I travel quite a bit in the States and internationally. I love traveling no matter where I go, but Disney is like going home. It's my 'laughin' place'!

How much Disney is too much? Hmm, I wouldn't have a clue!!! ::MinnieMo::MickeyMopluto::tinker::simba::donald::dumbo::goofy::smickey::mickeyjum

But I'll let you know if I ever find out........

When we first bought into DVC I was concerned that we would suffer a Disney burnout. That hasn't happened. Every visit we discover something we've never experienced before or something new that wasn't there our last visit. Each visit is as fresh as our very first to Disneyland back in 1972. Being an owner in DVC has allowed us to abandon our "comando" visit mentality of the past. We now savor what Disney has to offer. If anything our addiction to Disney has become ever more intense. We find we are reading the Walt Disney biographies, books on Imagineering, horticulture in WDW, etc. We've even taken a weekend trip to Marceline, Missouri to visit the home, the town, the "Wishing Tree" and original Main Street USA of Walt Disney's very early childhood and inspiration for Main Street in Disneyland/Walt Disney World. We just tolerate the time periods between visits. :goodvibes

And people that don't "get" Disney don't understand that fact. You go back for the memories, for the fun, for the time spent with loved ones...not to do the same things over and over. Every trip is a different experience and the memories you bring home with you are rarely ever the same.

I agree with this. We only go once a year (on occasion, more often) and there are many things we haven't seen. Most of our family don't "get" it but they don't comment as much anymore. As far as doing the "same things over and over"....I don't think it's any different than the family that rents a beach house every summer or the family that goes to the Bahamas every year, etc. Our family will be perfectly happy with our Disney memories! :thumbsup2

I don't think I'll ever get tired of Disney World! I could probably handle 3-4 trips per year if I had the time & points. I think that some people (especially those in their 40s & 50s) remember when they were kids/teens and only the Magic Kingdom (& maybe Epcot) existed. Many of them haven't been back since then and have no idea how much has changed and what they're missing!

I hate to give away my age but I remember when Disneyland was being built. My cousins that were living in Southern California at the time sent me a fancy advertising brochure about the new Disneyland. I wore that thing out thumbing through the pages, making my plans of what I would do when I would get to go to Disneyland. I watched the "Mickey Mouse Club" daily (major crush on Annette) and the Disneyland Television Show. There was only one problem. I couldn't convince my parents to take me. It wasn't until I was an adult that I finally went with my own children. Anyone remember when parking at DL was free? Remember the ticket books? Enough nostalgia. Now I'm making up for all the times my parents didn't take me. As soon as I enter the park I become that child flipping through the DL brochure all those decades past. My parents, rest their souls, didn't know what they were missing.

I never get tired of WDW or DL. Last year I made it to WDW four times and DL twice. For 2010, we went in January and are headed back May, October, and December.

There can never be too much Disney in my opinion!! Now ask my DH and you'll probably get a different answer:lmao:

funny story...i just read this thread to dbf who is sitting next to me and the first thing he said was "are you gonna say something bad about me on the disboards?!" :lmao: He says this because he isn't such a big fan. Don't get me wrong, he likes it, but isn't enthusiastic about going to the parks, although he's not against it, it will never be his idea first. He is more of a dcl/pixar kind of guy :dancer: <-----that's him! Lol we are actually setting up our next dcl on the dream next march as i write this. I'm showing him the aquaduck and he's soooo excited for it :yay: He says "we're gonna get on that first thing when we walk on the ship!!" :rotfl:

But my point is...when we first started dating in the 10th grade, which was 5 years ago now, he wasn't too fond for my love of disney, but what 16 year old hs varsity football player really is? :rotfl2: Now that we are older and we can go on cruises, and go to the parks when we want he kind of likes it. Before now he would ask "you and your mom are going again?! Don't you get tired of seeing the same stuff?!" it's not the same "stuff". I've been going to wdw several times a year since birth and i still haven't seen and done everything.

And people that don't "get" disney don't understand that fact. You go back for the memories, for the fun, for the time spent with loved ones...not to do the same things over and over. Every trip is a different experience and the memories you bring home with you are rarely ever the same.

So for me, there is no such thing as too much. For me, it's never enough. :cloud9:

you said it !

I get that all the time. We live in Southern California and spend lots of time at Disneyland, but a lot of people here are Disney Fanatics. What most people here (who haven't been to WDW) don't understand is why we keep going back. We don't even go to WDW that often compared to most, for the past four years we've gone once a year (since we bought DVC), and plan to go in 2011 too.

Granted I would like to take a vacation somewhere else in addition, maybe DC, NOLA, so the idea of building the next DVC resort there sounds great! (Oh wait that was the thread I was reading before this one!)

If people don't get Disney, I don't bother trying to explain it to them, but most of my friends do like Disney, they're just not as big of fanatics!

No such thing as too much for us.. at least to this point.. we went three times last year, and LOVED IT!!! For now.. we are planning on at least two trips next year.. and then we have Disney Land on the horizon along with a dream vacation to the new DVC in Hawaii!!!

I read this on the boards awhile ago, and it sums it up for me....

"For those who 'get it', no explanation necessary. For those who don't, no explanation possible."

We are fairly new to WDW (5 visits in 3 years) so we still have tons to explore! We always find new things to try along with old favourites that we have to do every time. No matter how long or how short our trips are, we always leave wanting more. And as soon as we get home, we start planning our next trip! :thumbsup2 (If not sooner....:rotfl:)

My DH never went on family vacations as a child. My family went on a trip every summer. We agreed that we would take some time for vacation every year. He took me to WDW for the first time in 1977, and created a monster. We then had 4 children and created 4 more WDW monsters. Three of the monsters are now grown, but at times still fly into MCO to spend their vacations with us. DVC was the best Christmas gift my husband ever gave me. Due to work restrictions he can only go to Disney once a year, but we still go every summer for 10-12 days. He loves to golf and spends most of his time on the course. Our youngest DD, now 18, loves WDW as much as I do. She is now a freshman in college and chose a Florida college, where she is a theater major. Her dream is to perform in Disney World. Whenever I drive to FL to pick her up for a break or take her back to school, we squeeze in another quick Disney trip. Having parents that live in Palm Beach helps also. Visiting them commands another short trip to the World. Last year we were able to squeeze in 13 trips, 12 of them with just my dd and I. So far this year we have had 3 trips, with another trip planned in April and our family trip with my husband in June. We love the resorts, the dining, the parks, and sometimes just people watching. My friends think I am a little bit crazy, but that's OK. There is no better feeling than enjoying the company of the people you love in the happiest place on earth.

I've never gotten to a point where it's too much. This year we have booked AKL concierge 1 bdrm for 5 nights over Memorial week, a week at BCV's end of Sept/beginning of October, and 3 nights Poly concierge followed by 6 nights AKL concierge mid-December. Oh...and a 4 night DCL cruise in October ( cash ressie). Next year we already have booked a 6 night coastal DCL cruise on the Wonder in late April ( preceded by a week at VGC), 2 BTB cruises on the Dream in Sept. and haven't yet looked into how we're using our points other than the VGC stay. I'll have points to bank from this year too so will have plenty for 2011. I really prefer Disney vacations over anything other resort or location as I know I'll be getting the quality and service I've come to expect. Also we live locally so there is no air involved for WDW trips which means our vacations are very affordable.---Kathy

OK ,I told my friend that we are going to the world in may ,and I just booked again for October ,and that we wanted to Go again in Feburary ,She said "How much Disney can You Take,I Just don't get it" "you guys are crazy"that makes me kinda sad :sad1:(that she doesn't get it) has this happened to you ,I know I am Not crazy ,If I am, I know I am not alone!:goodvibes I will get her crazy someday!:rotfl:

Not crazy at all to us. The rest of the world maybe. Our friends and co workers also think we are insane but it's just too difficult to explain to an outsider.

Don't worry about your friends and co-workers reactions. Just come here to be with like-minded people, people who would go daily if they could. :)

I don't feel that there such a thing as "too" much. I have made it to WDW 4 time in 12 months, and would have gone 4 more times during that same time window if DW would have let me. As it was, DW & DS7, DD5, and DS4 only got to come one of those trips.

I found a sad answer to this question posted last week on Leagle.com. It is a story of bankruptcy (Ch 7, denied) with references to DVC.

Subsequent to the sale of their previous house, the Debtors purchased a timeshare with Disney Vacation Development for approximately $32,000.00. This obligation required monthly payments of approximately $335.00 plus annual homeowners' association dues of $960.00. Although the Debtors contracted to buy the timeshare in July of 2008, just prior to the male Debtor's loss of employment, it is unclear whether the Debtors closed on their purchase of the timeshare before or after the male Debtor was laid off. In December of 2008, the Debtors withdrew approximately $2,000.00 cash to fund a family vacation to Disney World. The Debtors vacationed again in Disney World after they filed their petition.
After the Debtors sold their first house, rather than reduce their accumulated unsecured debt, the Debtors purchased a time share at Disney World.
Incredibly, months after they filed their bankruptcy petition, the Debtors took another vacation to Disney World.
The Court finds that the Debtors made excessive consumer purchases at the expense of their creditors at a time when they did not have the ability to repay or a reasonable expectation of repayment. These facts tend to show abuse.
