How much did you spend on your dvc membership

You know, when I look at what we have paid per point for each of our contracts (after incentives at the time):

SSR1 - $94 pp / 200 pts / 50 years - $1.88 per pt
SSR2 - $94 pp/ 110 pts / 49+1 year (love DEC UY for this) - $1.88 per pt
BLT - $110 pp/ 100 pts / 50 years - $2.20 per pt
VGF1 - $145 pp / 100 pts / 50 years - $2.90 per pt
PVB - $149 pp / 190 pts / 50 years - $2.98 per pt *- this was a Cruise promotion and included the $500 OBC offered on DCL
** My only recollection of this one was that the delta between 160 and 190 points after the extra incentive would have made those extra 30 points something crazy like $3-4 pp... so we went with 190... I am also trying to remember if this was on the 2015 Alaska MC...**

At any rate, looking back at what we are in on a per point basis, I sort of feel like one of those sub 3.00% 30-year mortgage rate holders (of which we are also) where it would be too expensive to sell to replace what you have...

My biggest regret is not buying more BLT when it first went on sale...

700 points for $82,950

And you also have a mandatory HOA fee of a minimum of $30K a year at Golden Oak, too. I would love to own a home there but DVC isn’t comparable.

ETA I also just learned Golden Oak is a ground lease of 99 years, too. You may own the home, but you don't own the land underneath. (Not from an official source, but not shocked coming from Disney.)
And you can't leave your cars out overnight! But on the other hand they do get treated as deluxe resorts with Extra Magic Hours and EE so I guess that makes the 16 mil worth it!

This needs to be edited to read: "they do get treated as deluxe resorts with Extra Magic Hours and EE so I guess you can't put a price tag on that."

Whether or not it takes $16M is besides the point. Golden Oak gives you those benefits regardless of what you paid, so cost is irrelevant.

And yes, I'm joking around. 😉

All our contracts are the same UY which was important to me. My background is in finance, and I wanted to buy DVC in a way that I thought was financially smart. So that meant buying on the secondary market for everything that we could, and watching Disney like a hawk for them to make bad changes for secondary market contracts. My paranoid thoughts ended up coming true, and I am happy with the decisions that we made throughout our years of buying.

Our cost breakdown:

2016 SSR resale 100 points for $82 a point = $8,200

2017 SSR resale 130 points for $85 a point = $11,050

2018 SSR direct 25 points for $145 a point = $3,625

2019 AKV resale 110 points for $100 a point = $11,000

365 points for $33,875

Roughly a total of $36,780 for the points, all the closing costs, and MF’s that we had to pay at closing. I say roughly because I had to make a guess for the closing cost for the direct contract, my guess was $100 because I remember if being MUCH cheaper than resale.

Fun facts for each contract:

Our 2016 SSR contract had 76 banked points on it which was amazing for our first contract. It was just my husband and I, and we were able to really spread those points out! Plus, the seller had paid the MF’s for 2016!

The 2017 SSR had 20 banked points on it. The seller paid the MF’s for 2017!

We bought the 2018 SSR direct contract for blue card perks.

Our 2019 AKV was a “drop everything we gotta buy another one” because of the DVC announcement for 2.0. I really wanted another contract to be grandfathered in, and we were able to get this one! We had made an offer for $100 a point, but our agent accidentally offered the sellers $90 a point and they had accepted… We ended up telling our agent that we were paying $100 a point because we did not want Disney to take it lol. Crazy times.

We are currently in the process of adding on another one from the secondary market. :)

I am happy that we bought in when we did. DVC 2.0 really stinks to me, and I am happy to have quite a few points that are grandfathered in to negate that change. At the time, I felt like the people who had already been grandfathered in to changes were in a really good spot or the people that bought at OKW when it first was being sold. Now I feel like my initial buying days were in a good period for DVC resale buying, and I am thankful for the grandfathering in and the spot we are now in.

It must feel nice that the resales are still at about what you paid per point. You did really well

Thank you! It does. We never bought them with the hopes of reselling, and now that they are grandfathered in we are definitely keeping them for the long haul.

DVC is like my stock market and it’s great to feel like I made some good decisions lol!

I wish we could have bought the 25 point direct for blue card perks. We would do today if possible!

2021- 10,500 total (100 pts)
75 resale (HHI)
25 direct (HHI)

Thanks @crvetter!! That helps a lot. My wife's biggest concern with Aulani is boredom. I think it would be really fun, but with 10 hours of travel each way (possibly broken up by a short stop by DL), I almost have to book a week and a half for it to make sense.
This is why I love these threads! So many great ideas! I am planning a trip to Aulani (from east coast) and now will def stop by DL, thanks!

Our first contract was directly from Disney in 2002 for 150 points at then Villas at Wilderness Lodge (now Boulder Ridge) for $11,250. Our last, and most expensive was around 2015 for resale 75 points at BCV for $9675. We'd originally bought 100 BCV points direct for $8000

Our first contract in '08 was 17K followed by 10K in '09. Then we added on in '12 and '18 for another 14K. For us, it was a lot of $ and we financed everything but the last contract to afford it comfortably. We talk all the time about downsizing but 345 points is not a lot of points when you start with 1BR or the occasional GV for family.

$66,960 for 380 points (two 180 point contracts) at GF right when the new rooms came out. We got (it's all relative) a deal as existing DVC members. I want to say this was 3 years ago (March??) It was like $184/$186 a point.

$26,700 for 170 GF contract (resale) back in the covid days ... had the itch.

Overall we love it / hate it / love it / hate it when I think of how much we spent.

We bought both our contracts this year

2024 (BLT 220 points) at $117pp. It had all points accounted for and we paid maintenance fees and closing costs
2024 (BLT 160 points) at $115pp. Only 61 points in 2024 use year but seller banked points for us and paid the MF for the year. We paid closing costs.

All in, including closing costs, I estimate we spent close to $48,000 for our contracts. We have a young family with two kids under 5 so we know we'll get some use out of these points and hopefully we can sell them in 10 years without taking too much of a hit. I can't see us holding on till 2060. We did an all-inclusive vacation to Aruba recently that was about the same price as we paid for our Disney vacations when we factored flight and food. Hubby and I much prefer a beach vacation over Disney but we keep going for the kids.

While not Aruba there's always Hilton Head, Vero Beach and Aulani to get in some beach time with your points.
