Bought SSR Resale (200) April '20 then added RIV Direct (100x2) in July '20
Bought VGF Resale (100) March '21 then added another VGF Resale (100) April '22
600 points and we are good to travel year round.

Bought 300 points because that's what we needed to stay in a 2BR Boardwalk view at BWV for Thanksgiving week. It's been enough - some years early on, when we had limited vacation time from work and were also traveling with my parents to places other than WDW, we had points to transfer out or to rent. Some years we booked a GV or multiple villas in order to bring extra family members, so of course those trips took up extra points. Right now we're working our way out of using 2 years worth of points to bring our kids and their families just before Christmas 2020, but DH and I have enough for our 1BR trips together!

Was at 495 - now I’m at 100 and I have that for sale right now - my life is changing right now but once it settles I plan on getting back in as I do love my DvC ❤️

For those with 1000 or more, just curious , how do you use the points? Always get 1 bedroom? Rent half?

We have 300, would love more but not the dues bill. Most years 300 is enough. Years we bring family, we have a friend that we rent from.

We have just over 1,000. We stay at 2BDs for the most part and occasionally splurge on nicer rooms. My family goes every year for a week in January, and my sister's and brother's families are starting to go as well. All points are jointly owned between me and my mom, but in reality they are hers. We have never rented any and are usually borrowing, not banking.

2022 was a bit of an anomaly but we did our family's trip (7 nights in BC and 2 nights at the Bungalows - delayed from last year), my mom stayed on another week with her husband in a studio in BC, then took DS/me to GCH, my brother for a week to BC and AK, and we are doing a cousins trip in December with my siblings in a 3BD at AK and then 2 2BD at BC. Our family's trip next year will be a split stay between BC and VGF, and then hopefully we'll go back to GCH next summer. My sister may go again next fall but my brother is unlikely to.

We will add 150 Poly 2 points that will eventually become DS's. DD will get whatever BC2 becomes. I want to buy CCV for "myself" but just can't justify it unless my siblings start going more often. The fact that I can't afford it at the moment is secondary....

Also to be fair, the vast majority of our points are at 2042 resorts, so for the sake of "legacy" points we will want to buy contracts to extend beyond that. My mom doesn't want to sell our OKW points for sentimental reasons and always insists we don't have enough BC points because it is her favorite resort.

I rent out some as we live in south Florida so I have lots of friends who like weekend getaways. We go usually for long weekends every six weeks. I own at 10 DVC resorts (most WDW except BCV and BRV and none of the beach resorts) I like being able to book where I want to stay right at 11 months based on the time of year we go we prefer different resorts. We went from 750 points to 2100 over the last two years we have three kids so we want to pass a nice bunch of points on to them and we will run down the clock on our 2042 ones as I will only be in my early 60s. We have a lot friends who go to their houses in the keys for the weekend we go to Disney instead.

Was curious as to the spread. Was thinking of buying more and wanted to see if I'm the only lunatic :-) (as if I don't know the answer to that)
Everyone’s got a different idea of what they want or “need.” My husband thought our initial buy-in (of just over 200) would surely be all we’d ever need. I told him I didn’t think 200 would do it, but 1000 probably would … it‘s looking like we were both wrong 🤪😂

We now own at 6 different resorts, but our contract at the Poly is only enough for 1-2 nights/yr. Once the association is announced for Poly 2, I hope/plan to add on more there. It’s definitely a family favorite, but I didn’t want to put more money into a studios-only location (the bungalows are way too points-heavy for my blood)… adding on the other room types there will be spectacular!! 🤩

(ps- My husband would assure you that you are not alone in your lunacy 🤣)

We haven’t had all our points long enough to have a pattern yet (we first purchased in late 2017, & have added on basically every year since), but we still book studios when there are only a few of us going. 😉 Actually, I think my favorite room on property is currently the tower studio at Riviera. 😍

We’ve gone as a family (in 2-bedrooms), we’ve also enjoyed taking several trips with just a few of our kiddos at a time (we’ve got 6!), and we’ve been able to invite friends & family to join us (sometimes in 1 studio, sometimes 2- & sometimes a bigger villa). I think we’ve only booked 1-bedrooms when we had banked points (from purchasing fully loaded contracts) which would be expiring. This coming January, we’re making up for a trip we couldn’t take last year (due to medical issues)… we are going to spend 1 week in a 2-bedroom + studio at BCV, and 1 week in a grand villa at Jambo House (as a major splurge!). I do hope to be able to rent 1-bed’s more in the future, but I’m afraid I’ll always choose a studio if it means I can stay longer or take more trips!! 😁🎉

Basically, we looked down the road and thought hard about our future. We knew we wanted to spend our winters somewhere warmer, and we wanted something our family could enjoy with us too… which is very hard to plan for with six children plus any families they may have in the future!!! Ultimately, we chose to invest in DVC over buying a vacation home. It was a tough decision, but I think it was the right one for us. It will allow us much more flexibility & it’s somewhere we’ll enjoy on our own too 😉

So, you see, this is part of our retirement plan- we just get to start enjoying it now! 🤩🎉

We take friends and family often and stay in 1 and 2BRs almost always. We usually rent 200ish out to cover a good bit of our MFs.

Never get 1 bedrooms. Either get 2 bedrooms and share with family. Or get studios for us and studios for family. I guess we have made the choice to bring family as much as possible and to do that we conserve points when we can. We get more joy from that than from larger rooms for ourselves.

Some years ago, I read here a couple had enough points to spend three months during winter. Would spend one week in a studio, eating out, doing parks etc. Then one week in a one bedroom, stayed in more, cooked in room, did laundry, rinse and repeat. Kept changing resorts.

hmmmmm Let's see......300 points divided by roughly 9 points would get me 5 weeks in a value studio in January. What are the chances of me getting value room at Jumbo at 7 months for 35 days straight???🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is such a cool idea! Can you imagine going down right after Thanksgiving and staying through February some year? Part of the problem is that point charts are crazy for Christmas week, but that may still be preferable than trying to deal with the insanity of March.

Question to the board...if this were your plan, how would you want to do this (hypothetically)?

Early on you have all of the awesome holiday decorations (so prioritize AK, VGF, and CCV) but you might also want better park access because it's still early in the trip. I think I would want to be at BC during the arts festival. I would LOVE to spend Christmas week in a CCV 3BD or a Cabin where I could just stay in my little bubble and not go anywhere near the resorts. We would probably be willing to try Saratoga or OKW for access to Disney Springs, or Riviera to try something new. No interest in BLT, BRV, or BWV (nothing wrong with them but prefer other places nearby). DS would want to end at the bungalows, because that is his all-time favorite spot at Disney.

My husband's semester typically ends in mid December and starts again after MLK, so while this isn't a possibility I could see us going down for a month or so after I retire. It's fun to dream, at least.

Started with 250 resale AKL
Then we found out about AUL and got 300 resale
Then we really wanted membership so AKL direct 125 right before it went to 150.

Super happy with our points. We have enough to do 2 bed rooms at holidays switching AKL one year then Aualni the next.

The direct points are the fun extra travel points we have been using for rundisney trips.

Only chapstick and this thread could create the dilemma of points envy v. do I want to sell everything I own and just say to hell with it.

We almost always stay in 2 BR's. We've never rented any points. If my husband and I can't use them all, our son and his friends have no problem finding the time to head down - even if it's just for a weekend :) .

I have 160 at BLT which was the minimum you could buy back in 2008. DH didn't want to buy in at all, but I swayed him with the argument that we could always sell if it didn't work out. Well, I manage to get him to WDW about every other year (thank you EPCOT Food and Wine!) and to Disneyland once a year. I try to get to each at least twice a year.

Always wish I had more points--I am a 1 bedroom gal now, even if I am traveling alone, but have to settle for studios if I want to come more than once a year.

Impatiently awaiting the Disneyland Tower, and I'd like to buy in to Boardwalk--I spend more time at the Studios or EPCOT than MK, but not willing to give up my direct Blue card BLT.
