I am thinking of joining AAA since the extended warranty has run out on my suv(had towing with that) since we usually drive to wdw from ky. I'm wondering what other discounts and benefits DVC'ers find useful, since we do get some discounts already. We are also wanting to hit Universal this April during our stay--anybody familiar with what AAA offers at Universal?

thanks!:flower3:

Jen, we are AAA members too and, from what I've read, AAA is like the freakin' key to the world at Universal. You can get sweet, sweet discounts on hotels and tickets by booking through AAA, and, once you are at Universal, you can get discounts on all eateries at the park by flashing your AAA or AMEX. For our dates, I want to say that for the cheapest Universal hotel on property, we got over a $100 discount from rack rate by booking through the AAA website. I was floored! We've gotten so much use out of our AAA membership, though...I don't regret joining one bit. :goodvibes

We are AAA members as well. But I didn't realize the discounts at Universal were so good until just recently. We haven't been to Universal in almost 5 years but we will be going in January of 2011 so this is good to know.

I used my AAA membership to purchase discounted tickets. I think it saved me about $50 on two tickets.

There is also a discount at the World of Disney shop in Downtown Disney, but only for the premium membership.

I think the discounts used to be alot better for Universal than they are now. We bought the 15 month power passes for Universal for several years thru AAA, and they were much cheaper than buying thru Universal. I have been pricing Universal tickets thru AAA for the last couple of months, and they appear to be about the same price as you can get elsewhere, unless I am missing something. The power pass appears to be gone - I hope they will bring it back once the hype over HP dies down. I have actually gotten better rates on the Universal hotels directly from Universal than thru AAA. The last time I booked the HRH, they were allowing people from Georgia to book with the Florida resident discount, and it was fantastic.

I don't know about Universal discounts, but I just wanted to say that I'm also from KY and I'm a AAA member. I always purchase my Disney tickets from AAA. They are the cheapest I've been able to find. We also use our membership to purchase tickets to Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN. We find it's very worth it to have the membership.

I've been a AAA member for years- we are Plus members so we got the free passport photos and they helped us process the passport applications. We've also gotten discount tickets to Universal and used their Triptiks for road trips. There are lots of other perks- you just need to check their website. Some are for shopping so it's not just for travel. I just got an offer to upgrade to Premium for $25 a year which included additional benefits plus an extra $100 onboard credit for any cruise/vacation booking besides any other AAA onboard/vacation offers.---Kathy

We're AAA members, too and have been for 30+ years. Our local outlet malls give a AAA discount. Depends on the store, some give 10% some 15% and some 20%. You can also get a free discount coupon book at the outlet mall info desk just by flashing your card. Don't know if the same holds true for the outlet malls in FL, but it would sure be worth an ask if you're planning a day of outlet shopping.

I don't own a car, but I joined AAA for the Universal discounts (and other discounts, too). AAA has saved me about $50 a night for hotel rooms at Universal and in Toronto. At Universal, most stores and restaurants in the park give you 10% off with AAA.

You can also get AAA discounts at Disney resorts, although they aren't as good as most of the specials Disney offers.

I think AAA is worth the money just for the discounts. I've saved well over $300 for my $55 membership

We are AAA members and use it primarily for other hotels (not in Fl) we stay throughout the year. We don't drive to WDW, but you can also get up front parking at the theme parks.

We also have a AAA Visa that we put everything on. It rewards you with AAA gift certificates that we use to buy our Disney passes. Between our purchases last year and having new windows put in the house, we saved $500 off tickets! :banana: We typically save about $250-$300 per year.

I have AAA and the WDW ticket price discounts aren't as good as Undercover tourist. The difference is small but there is a difference.

You just have to compare because it depends on what type of ticket you are getting. We are getting the 10-day Park Hoppers with NE and WPM (the full shabang!) and they are cheaper through AAA than Undercover Tourist (even with the Mousesaver's discount).

We are also AAA plus members. This thread is reminding me to add my daughter now since she recently got her license.

AAA Plus member here. Had their service for over 15 years and have never gone a year I wasn't happy to have them even when my cars were new.

I've used them for:

Towing, Tire Changes and Jumps;
Free American Express Travelers Checks;
Free Maps;
AAA discount at Ft Wilderness Cabins (before I discovered DVC)
Reduced cost Movie Tickets;
Reduced cost 6-Flags tickets.

I've been a AAA member for decades ("Plus" since it started); wouldn't want to be without it. I forget to use it for discounts often, tho. I love the tourbooks and maps. And the few times I've needed it for towing -- "priceless" -- quick response and excellent results. (They even tow my old Mustang from home up to the mechanic when I need it worked on -- which is pretty much every year). I will try to remember to use it for discounts at Universal next month -- thanks for the reminder!

I don't know about discounts, but I recently purchased a membership. About two weeks later, I accidentally left my car lights on at work. It was so much easier to call the AAA number and let them take care of finding someone to jump the car. Well worth the money, IMHO. :thumbsup2

tell me about the movie ticket discounts? all theaters, certain ones? certain shows?

I stopped by their office today to consider joining. I did wait to check online..anyone have any discount codes or referral bonuses if I join?
