We're going to PA for Thanksgiving, and we stay with the inlaws (myself, husband and son, 3).

What is the max. amount of time you'll stay with relatives? We used to stay Wed evening through Sunday afternoon of the long weekend, but I started getting stir crazy (they live in rural PA) so we come home saturday late morning now.

How about the rest of you? How many nights will you stay at a relatives house?

I don't do well staying at other people's homes. Two years ago we went for the weekend and ended up getting snowed in for 5 very long days. Never again. Nowdays, when we visit, we stay in a hotel.

0, inlaws don't have enough room but live 15 minutes away so we would never need to stay there.

3 nights is about my max....My in laws live in Fl....just a few miles a way from a beautiful beach and only 3 hours from Disney....We usually stay in a hotel but on a few occasions....like during high tourist season we may stay with them....They are nice people but dont like to use their AC and I cant stand the humidity.....

No longer than is absolutely necessary.

FIL - a wonderful guy, love him like my own dad.

MIL - a woman who's only barely escaped having a house dropped on her.

In their house? Iive never spent the night at their house. Cats and cigarettes don't mix with my allergies. We have to stay at another house or hotel and spend parts of our days at their house. Our visits usually last a week or more.

Last time we visited, we stayed a week with DH's brother and SIL. MIL is in ill health and it would put a lot of stress on them to have us stay with them. Both have huge homes so space isn't an issue. I'd do it again--they were wonderful hosts and we had a great time!

we've often stayed anywhere from a week to nearly two weeks

We used to spend a week each summer at the in-laws' lake house. It was terrible. Now even DH agrees that 3 days is plenty.

DH's family 1 night, 2 max. No reason to stay longer.

My family we stay for a week or longer. We take longer trips there though since they live far away. DH doesn't mind though. :)

We used to stay 2. Drive up on Friday night and leave Sunday afternoon. Now we take our time and leave late Saturday morning and leave after lunch on Sunday. We do this as least often as possible. It's absolutely horrible going to my in-laws.

0 if I can help it
My in-laws disapprove of me. I would be a wicked stress case trying to act appropriately by their standards and would wind up spending most of my time either misbehaving on purpose or at a local bar.

We usually spend 3-7 days at a relatives house. We like each other in-laws. We usually limit our time more because of dh's schedule. We take our dog usually if we go to our folks, but we would put her in the kennel if she would be too stressed or not wanted.

Now, 0, since they have no room for us. before my daughter was born we stayed there for up to a week, sleeping in separate rooms, with my husband in a sleeping bag on the floor in his little brother's room. Now we have to stay in a hotel, which limits our visits even more due to the expense.

2 maybe 3 nights. We'll be testing that out at Christmas. We are going back for a week and if I had my way, I'd just stay at my parents and drive over to the in-laws for day visits. But my mil has decided after 12 years she likes me! :scared1: And they chain smoke and have a cat. I don't know how long ds's allergies will last in that. Plus I can't stand smoke and that is alot of smoke (3-4 packs a day for each my fil and mil, so 6-8 a day!).

we try never to stay at anyones house, we will usually stay in a hotel. I can only think of one time that we stayed over and it was just one night because there was a convention in town and there were no hotels.

at the inlaws' house? 1 night max.

however, i'll stay at my parents house for a week +. there isn't a hotel near them, my parents don't smoke, dh and i can share a room, and i don't feel stressed out.

Depends if SIL and her family are there or not. IL's have a small house, we have 3 kids (7, 4 and 1) and SIL has 3 BIG kids (17, 13 and 11) and none of her kids will share a bed. That means all 3 of our kids are on the floor in the room DH and I sleep in which in about 2 years won't work because our kids will be too big. If SIL's family is there, I'll stay 2 nights max. If they're not, I'll stay 3 nights but we usually only stay 1 or 2.

3 nights, tops. And then we don't stay with either side. We rent a hotel room through Priceline.

We'll be with my family for Thanksgiving for 3 days and then with my in-laws in December for 3 days.
