Can anyone tell me how long it takes to drive to WDW from Atlanta, GA? I've heard about 7 hours, but seems like it took longer last time we went which was 15 years ago- so i really don't remember.
Thanks!

From Lawrenceville (northeast suburbs, outside the perimeter), it's typically between 7 and 8 hours driving time.

I think that the driving time has possibly shortened just a teeny bit over the last few years. It used to be that there was ALWAYS construction and congestion down around Valdosta -- in both directions. It was particularly bad driving back home on a Saturday or Sunday. Drive time for us was always at least 8 hours.

Depending on where you are in the Atlanta area, I don't think that it will be less than 7 hours (maybe if you are in Clayton or Fayette counties). And it can be longer than 8 depending on --- well, you know how traffic is in Atlanta.

When I drive down, I usually leave my home after work and get South of Atlanta (just north of Macon) late in the evening. The next morning, I try to get back on the road by 7am and I usually arrive at WDW around 1:30 - 2pmish.

Even though you live in the Atlanta area and know the traffic, I would recommend driving an hour or so South late the night before, that way you won't have any chances of getting snarled up in traffic the next morning.

Good suggestions, Carol.

A lot of it depends on what day of the week you are driving through Atlanta. On a weekday, you might hit heavy traffic. On a Saturday or Sunday, the traffic isn't so much of an issue.

We have been known to leave from the north side of Atlanta late in the afternoon on a weekday, or even after work -- and we can easily get to Valdosta (about 4 hrs) or even further sometime that evening, even if there is heavy traffic in town. If you don't mind driving late, you could even go as far as Ocala (about 6 hrs). You could then be at the parks pretty early the next day. We do plan ahead and make a hotel reservation for where we want to stop. If we leave in the morning, though, we will drive the entire way.

We live 35 miles south of Atlanta and it takes us 7 hours if we drive with one short stop for gas and eats and no major traffic snarls. Our last 3 trips, we have flown on Spirit or Airtran for around $120 r/t.

Hi, G's Mommy ---

Just a curiosity question. When you have driven, how do you get from Newnan over to I75? Do you take I85 to I285 to I75? Or is there a good cut-across from Newnan to I75? Or do you go south on I85 and cut across some other way?

We take Hwy 16 East from Newnan over to Griffin. Here we either take 19-41 south and continue until it turns to 341 all the way to Perry and pick-up I-75 there, (this is good if it is afternoon rush hour or a holiday period when I-75 is horrible) OR we continue on 16 through Griffin and pick-up I-75 there if it's during a slow time.

A couple of years ago I drove on a Sunday afternoon from the airport to my house half an hour north of WDW in six hours. I did the speed limit or a few mph over, made a single stop for gas, a quick bathroom break, and to grab a soda. There was no traffic at all.
