How many DVC'ers would never go in July or August??

The heat doesn't bother me too much, but I would never go in July because of the crowds. I love going in August though! Yes it's still very hot in August, but I can deal with that. I know a lot of schools go back in August, but in NJ where I live, schools don't go back until September. So we always like to go sometime during the last 2 weeks of August because the crowds aren't so bad.

Never say Never, if you asked this 6 months ago I would have said I'll never go again in July or early Aug. but with AP's and $49. airfare even if we just lay by the pool you can't beat it. Any where you go is crowded this time of year so we don't usually do much between 4th of July and Sept. We're going in expecting big crowds and hot temps, I figure I'll spend my days by the pool and work the EMH at night, throw in a trip to Daytona. We'll have a car because I figured ME would be busy. Given our expectations we should be ok even if we spend a lot of time hanging at SSR it sure beats working.:cool1:

Glad to hear the people think the crowds are smaller in late August. I always swore that I would never go in the summer. Then DD read that the Pirate and Princess Party would be back the last week of August. She doesn't go back to school until after Labor Day so as she pointed out, we wouldn't have to take her out of school and could go in August and then again on our planned trip in November. But the problem was we didn't have enough points for both trips without borrowing. Then DH got a severe case of addonitis and we decided to buy two 100 point add ons at SSR. This was in late May. Our use year is June so we got the 2006 points. Of course I had to use them. So we are booked into a one bedroom at the Boardwalk for a week at the end of August! We know it will be hot, and we are taking our chances with hurricane season and also expecting rain every day. But we have ponchos and anything short of a hurricane won't really bother us. We plan to follow the excellent advice given here - spend some of the hottest time of the day at the pool and rest. Means we get an extra trip out of our APs (3 for DD and DH and 4 for me) and I got $64 airfare. So I agree with never say never!

I am soooo happy I started this thread. IT seem that most people have a great time in Aug. I am like you.......expect crowds and heat but take advantage of a lovely resort and the water parks and the later hours at the parks. I CAN'T WAIT.

Lots of people throw tantrums at WDW in the summer. It is because they are:

a) hot
b) tired
c) both

If you are at WDW and become even a little bit irritable, take a break! You've never felt relief like having an ice cream cone in mid-July, sitting down in a cool place, or swimming while others are just going off to the parks! :)

Bottom line: There are a MILLION ways to have fun at WDW.

P.S. You can avoid the crowds ANY TIME of the year. Read TGM!

Call me crazy, but I love going in the late summer. June is actually not consistently hot enough for me.

(Disclaimer: I grew up in Florida) :rotfl: :rotfl:

Getting ready to head back home in two weeks. We prefer August because the crowds are a little less and due to having one school age child who blew it when he returned to school after a March trip last year. So we are back to heading down during August. We hate the crowds, so we prefer to head there when crowds are not so heavy. We will not head down during Christmas time or Easter or during the school vacation weeks.

August is the best for us, and I love the heat, as long as no hurricanes come around.

Smitty :hourglass

We like to enjoy a trip in June & one anywhere from Oct - Dec.

Nephew getting married in June next year...effectively messing up the last 2 weeks of June;)

Can't take youngest DS out of school more than once/year

Guess we'll be stuck with mid-July to mid-August, either @ WDW or DL (perhaps less humid?)

I'll never say never, but I certainly have no plans for a summer time visit to The Mouse. We're from the northeast, and really look forward to a mid-winter escape.

No summer months for us ... We live in New England where summers are quite enjoyable and when we have a 90 degree day it's a major news event.... Not a fan of high heat and humidity..

We love to travel to WDW during the "events" ...Late Ocober for food and wine, early December and early May when the flower and garden show is underway ....

We love the December weather ..we've been there with 80's, 70's and lower ..with night temps requiring a sweat shirt to watch the parades, fireworks or candlelight processional ...When it's too hot in December it just doesn't feel right with the holiday decorations!! :santa:

What's great about being a DVC member is no matter what time of the year you choose to vacation, if the weather is too hot, too cold, too rainy ..what every ..no problem...great resorts to relax in and the knowledge that there are many, many more enjoyable days in our future ...no more commando for us!!:dance3:

Enjoy your trip!!

Peggy

No June, July, or August trips to WDW for us. We don't like the crowds in June and July, or the heat and humidity. We're from Northern California, and it's bad enough to endure the heat and humidity here in North Carolina, so we want to avoid it on vacation.

We prefer March, May, October and December.

I am a definite August convert-going on our 5th trip this year in August and it has become a tradition. Here are a few plusses for the summer-

1. longer daylight hours
2. lots of pool time and it feels like "swim weather"
3. the last hurrah before the kids go back to school (early Sept.)
4. in later August we have experienced less crowds
5. lighter packing vs. heavier suitcases for winter trips
6. a new appreciation for air conditioned attractions
7. the summer heat warms us for 6 months of cold weather

There are others, but these are a few that we have discovered :)

My DH and I are in full agreement, we will NEVER go in June, July, or August. Heck, I don't even think we'd chance September. Way too hot, humid, and buggy! UGH!

We're DVC members since '92 and all of our trips were in July until '05.

We didn't want to take our kids out of school and going in June made the summer seem too long, couldn't go in August because Football practice began August 1st., so that left July.

In '05 my DH and I decided to go in December since the kids were now adults and there wasn't any reason not to. That was enough for us to know that it will be really difficult to go again in the summer. We're both 60 and don't want to deal with that heat again.

If we had to go in the summer we would, but given the choice we prefer the cooler months.

I am originally from New York, and I agree with mprewitt! I have learned to find the air conditioning in NC during the summer, but can't imagine park visits in Fla during July and August!! Yeech!!

Vacations in the Mountains and New York during the summer time!

Well I will have to post about my Aug. trip when we get back and hopefully it will be "WE LOVED AUGUST AND WE WOULD DO IT AGAIN"...VS. "OMG NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL WE GO IN AUG". LOL

Me, too. I don't like walking out the door and melting within 10 minutes. We've done 2-week trips in June, and that was hot enough for me, thank you. I'd rather go in May for Flower & Garden Fest, October for Food & Wine Fest, and December for Christmas. :thumbsup2

The last week of August was always a great way to wrap up summer when my daughter was in highschool. It became one of our favorite times to go. With the locals in school and everybody else worrying about their back to school shopping, we really felt like we had the place to ourselves.

It seems that having DVC accomodations made it really convenient for the much needed mid-day break, as they are so close to the action. The extended hours in the parks are like having two days in one, so you can take it slower if you want... the Mk is open so late.

Yup, hot and yup, rainstorms pop up almost daily, and yup, hurricane season.

There are people I wouldn't want to go with in august, those who hate the heat or who need to be in bed by 10.

But flying is no worry (no snow and ice storms to complicate plans and your suitcase weighs nothing without a winter coat). And it made me feel like a teen again to be out after midnight!

We PREFER the summer (late July and August) as you can see by my signature! The HOTTER the BETTER....bring on the HEAT!!!!
