How long does it take you to get to WDW?

We make one gas stop...6.5 hrs. We have a TS reservation to make once we arrive at Disney. The fun is waiting. :goodvibes Now, if we travel I-95 on a holiday week it is a different deal!

We live in western VA almost in WVA. It is supposed to take us about 11 hours but with all the stops it is more like 13. It is only 2 hours if we fly:thumbsup2

As another west coaster we have to fly! If we can get an early morning flight out of Sacramento then we arrive in Orlando around 5PM.

We've flown before but we drive everytime now. Total drive time : about 12 hours. We have found that we prefer to drive - we can leave when we want to, take as much or as little as we want, and have more room and comfort than most planes can provide. I also put the middle row of seats down (stow & go) and the daughter has the entire rear and middle of the van to create her "nest." She REALLY enjoys traveling this way.

Door to door about 5hrs from NY.....not bad...

I have a 6:40am flight....I should be at BWV by 10:30,,,..the 5 hrs
is including my 1hr before flight and my 5min commute to airport.

27 hours from NJ via the Autotrain

4 hours drive to Lorton, VA
4.5 hours check in + time cushion
17.5 hours on train (overnight)
1 hour drive to WDW

We find the trip relaxing and usually reserve a family bedroom. Booked at 11 months, the cost is similar to flying and is more cost effective when factoring in the savings of a car rental. We only do this for trips over 10 days.

driving from pittsburgh it's roughly 16 hrs. we did that ONCE - never again:scared1:

flight down is about 2 hrs. door to door, i'd say probably b/w 5 and 6 hrs...

From Port Jeff to Islip 20 min.
Arrival time before flight 90 min.
Flight time 2hr 20 min.
Bags/rental car 30 min
Drive from MCO with stop at Publix 40 min.

Grand Total: 5hrs. 20min:thumbsup2

From Chicagoland area it takes us about 21 hours to drive. We always stay overnight around Atlanta to give everyone a break. Then we hit the road early and arrive in the afternoon.

If I could shave off some time I would but honestly....we really look forward to the road trip. Yes, the kids drive us crazy, yes our car is so messy that it's unrecognizable when we get there and yes, there is ALWAYS a "welcome to Florida" downpour sometime after we cross the state line. I do have to say that there is nothing like a good stretch after being in the car for several hours. Also, we have some awesome family time together; we play games, we have great talks about any and all things (kids really do say the funniest things!) and last but not least, we love to find any "conversation pieces" we can while driving. (I always take pictures of the funny things we see on the road.)

boy you are so correct!!!

went one time on the Sunday following Thanksgiving - sat on I10 for around 3 hours trying to get on I75 - it was traffic. It started 6 miles from I75.

will never do that again!!!

If we drive :
It's 16-17 hours straight through. But we only did that once and never again. We prefer to stop overnight to sleep (usually in SC or GA). So in actuality, it takes us about 25 hours and if you calculate in the rest/gas up the car/breaks/sleep stops along the way, you could add another 1-2 hours for a total of maybe 27 hours. We drive from the Philly area.
Total : 27 hours (including drive and rest/sleep stops)

By plane (PHL to MCO) :
1 hour drive to airport
1.5 hrs arrival (sitting) prior to flight
2.10 hrs in air
30 min for luggage/rental car pickup
30 min drive to wdw
Total = 5 hrs 40 min

We much prefer flying, but may be driving this year with the higher airfare and rental car prices we're seeing.

PrincessV says : Me, too. But 2-4 hours if traffic is bad through Tampa and Orlampa.

We actually had some very good luck on a couple occasions driving from Orlando to Tampa (sometimes fly in and out of Tampa if airfare is cheaper). This past October, we made the drive from Orlando to Tampa in 1 hr and 10 min. Best time ever........our previous record was 1 hr 15 min. We have had other occasions where traffic was very bad---one year (2003), caught in a tragic accident delay. Took us 2.5 hrs to get to Orlando. But that one time was the longest it ever took us to/from Tampa.

We've both flown and driven...but are more likely to drive now that the family has become such a brood.

flying is about 2 1/2 hours.

Driving is about 20 to 22 hours, depending on meal, potty, and leg stretching stops.

We always fly as driving would be about 20 hours. 2.5 hours in the air and about 2 hours at both ends leaving our house and falling on the bed at BCV.

But the cost of flying has really increased over the years - Jet Blue was going to charge the three of us $2400 round trip for next week from JFK, we opted to change to April where the rate is $900 for the three of us. Hard to wait the extra two months but the cost just did not justify flying now.

However the trip back seems longer that the trip going down - probably my depressed mood.:goodvibes

We live NE of Orlando airport, so it is about a thirty to 45 minute drive depending on the traffic and route.
