We will be sailing concierge on the Dream and I think I read that 150 mb will be included. How long does this last? I'm thinking I would just want to send a quick message once or twice per day and then sign off. What is the best way of contacting someone back at home using the least amount of mb? Facebook, Email, iMessage, etc.?

If you're simply doing a quick message, iMessage could work great. However, you'll want to be sure you configure your iPhone correctly-- turn off automatic app downloads, make sure no apps are downloading data in the background, notifications, etc. There are sites out there that provide guidelines on how to do this. And as you say, you simply turn on the wifi for when you only need it.

I had a weak moment and did an iPad update.... 300mb last a few minutes at 24Mbps. Bad iPad! Bad iPad!

Sounds more like user error to me in deciding to do any kind of update on shippernet! :)

As noted, it depends on how you use that time. We've always just gotten the free 50 mb package on the first day of our cruise. And that's been sufficient to check our emails and respond to any that require responding to for up to a 7 night cruise (for two of us). Be sure to turn off all mb-eating features (like pictures/videos/auto updates).

I've had 50mb last me for a 4 night cruise if I'm just checking email and sending a few messages a couple times a day.

tbh longer than you'd think, if you allow others in your cabin to charge on your account you can sign them up for their free 150 too but use it on you own device

You can bring your phone to concierge and they will fix the settings on your phone to maximize your usage. That said it only lasted us a day and a half.

For me, I will expense it for work. Since I am up early, I can close out any work items in an hour or less each morning. 1GB for $89 is not outrageous.

It totally depends. On our 12-day Northern European cruise last year, DH signed up for the free 50 MB as soon as we boarded and then told me he was going up on deck to take some photos. After about 1/2 hour I realized he wasn't back yet. When he returned a few minutes later he told me he'd been on deck, Skyped with some people from work and plowed through the whole 50 MB. However, from that point he bought another 100 MB and used it mainly to check e-mail. I used it a couple of times to check my mail and download some Kindle books. We shut off everything automated or running in the background. We did use free wifi in some of the ports to upgrade apps and things. That additional 100 MB lasted the rest of the cruise and probably some left over. It really depends on how you use it - it can be small or very large.

Don't Snapchat!! On my Alaska cruise, we got on board, got lunch and were sitting out on deck. My son signed us up, sent and snapchat and boom....our free 50 mb was done!!! We hadn't even left the port!!! I was so happy...NOT!!! That was it for our onboard data. Fortunately we went to US ports and were able to use our data and some wifi!!

The free 50MB lasts me the whole 7 days on my iPhone for just plain text email. Turn off downloading attachments, auto updates, etc. as others have mentioned.

Not long when you forget to log off LOL I went through the free amount before the first day LOL
