6 months. I was in the COE (Cooperative Office Education) program my senior year of high school. I quit my job at an insurance agency for another job at a resort hotel. My aunt who had worked there for years in accounting recommended me for the job as purchasing secretary. It was also a job I would be able to keep after I graduated. The insurance agency was fine with it and understood but my teacher was not happy with me at all.

Fast food - less than a year until I got something better.

7 years almost exactly. Grocery store in high school, community college and the last year night shift until I got the job I have now.

Four months, September-December 1982, Best Products Catalog Showroom. It was a brand new store and they laid off many of the staff after the holidays, including myself. I didn't mind, I liked the people I worked with but not so much the job. It was a catalog showroom where customers would pick out something and fill out a form, then give it to me so I could put it in the computer and they could pull it from the back stockroom. The customer would then be called over the intercom to pay at the register. It was a cumbersome process which is probably why they don't exist any more.

About 2 months.

I was a cleaner for a professional cleaning service. My assignment was for an accounting business when they had closed for the day. I did this while in college and gave it a really good go. They said I was one of their best workers. I quit the day after someone had explosive diarrhea in the men's bathroom and left a huge mess for me to clean up. It makes me laugh now, but my gosh that was gnarly. I took a photo and sent it to my mom and she told me I'm not working there anymore lol

This, unfortunately, wasn't the only event.

1. One female accountant would stack plates with leftover barbecue sauce on her desk daily. I'm talking 3 plates. We didn't have to take their plates for them that were left, but I did it to be nice. I regretted doing it when the plates were stacked up on more and more desks.
2. I cleaned the bathroom and the same barbecue female accountant went in after I cleaned it and left a huge mess before leaving for the day. She did this at least three times while I was there.
3. The office manager complained that the bathroom stunk (gee...I wonder why?), when it smelled fresh and clean when I left.
4. The office manager ate an incorrigible amount of candy. No judgement, but she would miss her trash can under her desk and there would be candy wrappers all under her desk. I'm talking 25+ Reese's, Snickers, and Almond Joy fun size wrappers each day of the week.
5. The office manager was upset that I took their cans out of the bin that was overflowing and put them in the closet where they were supposed to go. She called and complained that I was not to touch their cans again.
6. I mopped the bottom reception area. Another cleaning lady for the office next door (though could be accessed by connecting doors) brought her kid and let the kid run all over my clean floor after I had spent an hour thoroughly getting the ice melt stains out. Both of them tracked in the ice melt again and I had to redo the floor several times to get the stains out.
7. My supervisor who was training me at the time took candy off the desk of the office manager and a beer out of the beverage fridge (I was just as shocked, but they kept hard seltzer and beer well stocked). She did that every night we were there. I worried about what else she was taking and didn't want to be blamed.
8. The accountants left papers with people's social security numbers in plain view. I had to wipe down areas of the desk that didn't have stuff on it (these desks would leave fingerprints really bad) and did everything I could to not look after seeing that information for the first time, but wondered if these people who were paying a lot of money to use these accounting services knew that their information was out for some rando to look at.
9. A vehicle parked in the parking lot, it was 10pm, and just stayed there for about an hour. The whole office is glass so they could look right in when I had the lights on. It came back a couple nights when I was there. That freaked me out.

Looking back, I can't believe I stayed as long as I did and all that happened in only two months lol.

Where do you work?

Family business.
I've had other jobs, I've been a receptionist, travel agent and, most important job - a stay at home mom. But returned to my roots so to speak, and have currently been at my first job for the second time for about 18 years. I am one of the owners now, and it's very rewarding as we see the third & fourth generation coming along.

Many moons. I worked in the science library. I’d kill for that job today. It was sweet.

Four years then USMC for four years. Then the job I have now been there 29 years. Never been turned down for a job that I applied for.

6 years. Bank teller. Started at 15 thru a program at my high school. Worked all thru high school and college until I moved away.

2 1/2 months. It was a part time job that I took until my full time job started. I knew that I’d be quitting in June but this part time job started in April. It was originally starting earlier but it was a brand new store being built so it got delayed. I felt bad quitting so soon but that was my plan all along.

2 years in fast food. Left to work as a receptionist. When I left boss couldn't understand why I would leave for almost $1 more an hour, better hours and not smelling like food every day.
