How long did it take you to finally join?

Almost a year of research and shopping (resale).

We joined on the spot in May, 1992. We have four kids and had been trying to find a good place to stay on property. There were some condos (now gone) near what is now Downtown Disney but there weren't very nice. We stayed one night in a room at what is now called Old Key West and loved it. When we compared the cost of DVC to getting two rooms at Yacht or Beach it was an easy decision. Our kids have grown up thinking of OKW as a second home and we slowly began treating it like it was a real home away from home. That led to a business, but that's another story.

First saw a DVC booth at DTD on a golf trip in 95. Didn't purchase our OKW resale until 2006. Sure wish I would have figured out a way to purchase back in 95.

We'd "heard" about DVC early in 1992, but never investigated further. Then in Sept 1992 (on the suggestion of my father) we reluctantly took the tour on the very last day of our trip.
We bought 230 points that afternoon----.

We bought sight unseen after about a week of discussing it. We had planned our first WDW vacation, our DD is 3 and finally ready for the parks, when we crunched the numbers and realized that DVC is a much better deal if you insist on staying in a villa and we do! Therefore, we joined, cancelled our inital reservation, and are using our DPs in about 2 weeks! We can't wait!

Once I found the disboards we bought in very shortly after. The presentation on DCL just didn't do it for us. The boards are much better at putting it into perspective

It took us 4 years! We first looked at DVC in 1993, but didn't purchase until '97.

The amount of time it took me to say``I`m on Disney Time and you`re on commision,I`m here on my sisters points, save the sales pitch, lets get right to the numbers``

And the actual time to closing took about 2 months

It took us about 2 days to make our decision. We were In Orlando in an off-site time share in Nov of '07. We took their tour the first day of our trip and rec'd some discount golf which was great but wow......the pressure to buy was terrible.:scared1: About 2 or 3 days later we were at Epcot and stopped at DVC kiosk. After our last experience we were a little hesitant but the fast pass offer sealed the deal for us. We called our guide before we left Florida and purchased SSR. We just added 100 AKL points today!!

1-1/2 years. Took the tour in January 2006 and tossed the idea back and forth for a couple months. At that point we decided not to take the plunge. We went back in December 2006, still not considering it. Five months later with our house just about paid off, we called our guide and bought SSR!! :cool1:

I 1st learned about it on Christmas 1997 trip.
Then in 2006 DW and I took the tour kinda kicked it around thought it was too much for us for vacations. Then after spending $7,000 more on 2 more WDW trips a friend of mine, and fellow DVC'er, helped me convince DW to buy in, we bought resell 160pts SSR, now waiting on a good resell for BWV:thumbsup2

I had been to WDW 5 times prior to a trip in August when we took the DVC tour for the first time. After researching on these boards for the past 4 months, I just made an offer on a BWV resale. Waiting for Disney to make their ROFR decision.

My parents bought DVC at BC and I didn't think too much of it. We stayed there a couple times it was a neat Idea but nothing worth buying into. Loved the Idea being so close to Epcot. One year we decided to try BWV and I just fell in love with the place. Took me about 2 years to have enough cash to buy resale. Best descision I have ever made.

Looked at BWV in 1999 on our honeymoon but didn't buy in until March 2003 at BCV. 150 points...still haven't added on yet either. 150 points has been working for us.

How long did it take you to finally join?

About 30 minutes. Seriously.

We had done all our due diligence the night before and my wife's brother and his family had been members for 3 years. They never pressured us and didn't even know we were going to the preview at the sales center.

We were staying at POR this past April and went over to their 1BR at BWV to meet them for supper. I asked him what we had to do to get these kinds of accomodations and he jokingly said join DVC. We went to dinner.

I went to the MK to the kiosk at FL and scheduled a meeting for the next morning that same night. Went back to the room and I did my research and the rest is history. We signed the next morning.

We did the right thing. At SSR this morning. First time here. LOVE it!

Our first trip as a family was in 1998 when our oldest was 1 & 1/2 years old. I remember seeing the kiosks for DVC back then but we hardly gave it a thought. By May of 2004 we'd been 3 times, were expecting our 3rd child and knew we'd be back over and over again. We took the tour on that 2004 trip on one of the last days (which was the first serious consideration) and bought shortly after returning home.

In hindsight we wish we would have bought in 1998 but in reality it only took us 48 hours to truly decide once we knew what it was about. I'm a little embarassed to say we didn't do any research before buying (other than crunching the number$).

I think sites like this are great for people considering buying DVC. All of your questions will be answered. Even though we didn't find this site until after we purchased, it's been a wonderful source of info to us in getting the most out of our membership.

It took me 5 years before I bought! DVC peaked my interest in 2003...we owned other timeshare since 1997. DH FINALLY caved and we just bought BLT yesterday!!! Money is tight, so we will be renting the first couple of years...but I am BEYOND thrilled! :cheer2:

Two years of thoughtful consideration. Never a moments doubt that this was a great decision for our family. No buyers remorse here - we LOVE our DVC :thumbsup2

First toured in 1992. Decided other financial priorities (building new home) were more important. Thought about it off and on till 2002 when we decided to join. As you can see from my signature, we enjoyed many fine WDW trips and nearly every resort on property during those years.
