How is the DIS bankrupting you?

Cursed be this thread.... I have now spent 70$ on a full assortment of packing cubes..... Sigh the DIS strikes again.

For anyone who wears a size 8 or smaller woman's shoe, I highly recommend buying kids sizes in Keens. They are about 1/2 the cost and I really like the Velcro strap at the top (on the newports and seacamps - whispers do not have this) as it makes them more secure on my thin feet - especially since the shoes tend to be wide. I wear a 7 1/2 and the size 6 kids fits well. I am actually between a kids 5 and 6 but the 5 was too short. The kids 6 fit my daughter who wears an 8-9 also. The ability to adjust them makes them fit a wide variety of feet.

DIS has only steered me wrong once (Dole Whips? YUCK!) and it has never bankrupted me. Of course, I don't always listen, because some of the ideas are just wacky.

I think that's the thing. I have VERY flat feet. Basically no arch at all, so they're lovely for me. But I can see where they'd be problematic for those with high arches.

I've had the best luck with my Birkenstocks. I might end up buying another pair of those and ordering an insert with arch support for my keds, which is really what I'd prefer to wear.

And now I'm adding Bobble water bottles to my list......

I have the ebags brand and they're nice. I bought the variety pack, but didn't find the smaller sizes to be of much use. Even my toddler's clothes took up a good amount of space. I'm eying the Eagle Creek compressible ones. It looks like they have two zippers, so you can smush everything flatter if you want. I traveled once with plastic vacuum bags. The seal gave on one so I couldn't get it to compress for the trip home. It was just silly.

I bought some collapsible bottles a few years ago, likely from reading the DIS, no joke - Vapur brand. Unfortunately, the first time I took it to the beach, where it was clipped to my beach bag, somehow the top got disconnected from the bottle, so I lost a bottle right away. Very odd. I love the idea of the compactness of it when it's not in use. But the Bobble bottle has a much better price point than the GoRoam. Either way, I love the idea of not having to drink the Florida tap water straight.

Love my Vapor collapsable water bottles for the times I want to ditch the light hiking backpack with a water reservoir I usually carry at WDW. They are so much easier to pack away than the hard bottles. The only problem with them is I usually end up squirting water all over myself at least once a day. What can I say.... I'm a klutz

DIS-inspired finds:
Filter water bottles- started with a Brita, now I don't remember the brand of the current one. Useful!
Frogg Toggs- they were okay to use, but I stored them as directed and they reek now. I need to throw them away I think.
SW Visas @ 50,000 points- AWESOME! Beyond the bonus points, DH charges quite a bit for business and we have booked flights for free for 4 years in a row, with enough already for next summer if we fly.
Custom t-shirts- did these myself- painted princesses for our first trip, appliqued Mickey heads for later trips.
Custom skirts- Grandma just made a princess twirl skirt and a villians twirl skirt for DD14 after DD found the material at Joanns.

Hmmm, I had to think about this one cause the Dis tends to save me money but I have bought the following because of the Dis.

Body Glide, used it once and don't even know where it is now.
Sundresses - now I've always been a huge fan of sundresses, wear them all summer long but never thought about wearing them in the parks. Now, it's just about all I wear and I can't wear my nice ones that I wear to work so had to buy a whole wardrobe of cheap ones.
D&B bags - again, have always been a big fan of D&B and own a number of them but then read about the Disney ones here, sigh, I now own 6 of the Disney ones. I do use them at home though.
Collapsible water bottle, bought one tried it once and it now sits rolled up on my travel shelf (yes I have a whole shelf in my closet with just travel related stuff)
I've been looking at the running skirts that have pockets in them since sundresses don't and I hate carrying a bag and women's shorts pockets won't even hold a cell phone. I've held out so far.
I've looked at packing cubes a couple of times but again have held out and just take two suitcases instead (I drive down).

I'm glad to see the comments about Skechers not having the arch support. I have stupid high arches and my feet ache like mad after a day at the parks of I don't have the right arch support. Heck, they hurt even if I do have arch support.

Definitely look elsewhere then. These are not the shoes you're looking for (or at least try them in a store first).

Oh yes.it was not my intent to sucker everyone else into "needing" things but I'm afraid I have. I'd apologize but since @TheFloatingBear snagged me with a must-buy t-shirt last night and I am NOT going to open another tab in a minute here to google bobble bottles, at least I got myself in the process too.

We had 12 in our group and we did things like a 7 Dwarfs day, where everyone had a different dwarf or Snow White or Evil Queen all on tan or cream shirts; another day was Epcot with each of us having a different Epcot Country on a red or blue shirt. . . Coordinated, but not identical. . . Pictures looked good, but no one had to walk around in matching identical shirts (the horrors!)

I am also trying NOT to look up Bobble Bottles, so maybe those are the same, but I have seen very inexpensive water bags/bladders, that have a screw-top cap and a carribeaner (sp?) you can use to hook it to a belt loop or bag strap. Nice and flat and featherlight when empty, can be filled at a water fountain (taste camouflaged with a Mio or the like!)

lets see, not just from the DIS but other boards also I have bought:
Baggalini - not a fan, I like my Ameribag better, and I think I got hooked on those after I read about them on a board, I was just lucky to borrow one from someone before I purchased. Im glad the one I have I got on clearance from ebags.
Packing cubes - I have a 3 piece set from ebags, I used them for a weekend trip in Jan to a conference..... not quite sure on them yet. I need to use them more.
Earth Sandals - these are actually a good buy, mine fit great, and I bought a second pair that are dressier for work. For what it is worth I have a super high arch
Matching shirts - we did this in 2013 with my Mom and Sister and Family for one day. Our husbands were not amused. I don't know if it will ever be done again. Okay yes it will but with two "kids" doing their own thing.
Brita - I took my brita on a trip in 2009. It worked great to make water to refill bottles or to have in the room, except it got broken on the way home in my suitcase. To me the water onsite has gotten better since 2006. which brings me to....

Onsite - I thought this was only for the rich and famous. Then I was looking into a honeymoon for sept 2006... and found these disney sites, and that it was comparable (esp with free dining back then) to the island resort vacations everyone else was taking. And then I found CL... and the WL...while we have stayed at all levels now, I am hooked!

I do want a sparkle skirt..... and to figure out a disbound outfit. I just can't commit.

In regards to the OP, we LOVE our Frogg Toggs! A very worthwhile expense if visiting from April to October IMO.

Aside from that I can't think of much that we spent because of the DIS. I might not have known about the Pirate Adventure Cruises. My oldest has done them twice and they were very much worth the money.

I picked up Frogg Toggs before our trip earlier this month. Then I forgot them on my dining room table. And then it didn't matter anyway, because it was early March. I do a bit of work outdoors, though, so honestly they'll end up being useful for more than just Disney.

I do not regret the packing cubes or the portable phone charger. The latter in particular was a lifesaver. And again, both useful for more than just Disney.

I have only just now heard of Sparkle Skirts and am blocking that website immediately.

I remember buying these cute little velcro tags for my kids shoes that had phone numbers on them.

I was having a really terrible day until I happened upon this thread...

I looked into packing cubes, but ended up buying three new pieces of star wars luggage (darth vader, r2d2, and a storm trooper) the packing cubes would have been cheaper...

Also, the dis inspired me to learn to sew! And now I make my own disney wallets, bags, and mickey ears!

Packing cubes. I bought a set a while back after reading about them on a thread. I'm not 100% convinced that they save any room (but I pack pretty well usually) BUT, I love the organization that they give. I love having different colors for different people. That equals easy unpacking when we get there. No more digging through the suitcase to find your own stuff. I love that I can just toss the bags in a drawer and each person is set. Honestly, I really love them.

BUT now I want sandals for DD and myself and a darned sparkle skort.
