How is the DIS bankrupting you?

I had to look up Sparkle Skorts to see what I was missing. :rotfl2: Obviously the point of this thread. You are the second person to mention wearing skorts during vacation. So, while I am reading this thread, I have multiple tabs open looking for skorts. Because I need several pair. I really don't want to do laundry while I am on vacation.

:thumbsup2

Not to mention, who wants to wear the same skort 2 days in one vacation??

It's an illness, I'm aware.

I definitely let these boards get to my head our first trip. We did the dessert party, BBB, all the extras. We had a blast, but I realized quickly that we wouldn't be able to go as often if we went all out on every trip.

I do insist on matching shirts for our trips though! It's so fun and inexpensive these days since everyone has those vinyl machines.

I have never used packing cubes, mole skin, ordered from garden grocer, frog togs or trading pins.

I tried really hard to resist. I closed tabs, I left the house, and I convinced myself I didn't NEED it. I lost and sparkle skirts won.............

We do matching shirts too! I don't have a machine...but I have started looking at them...

I opened up a tab to look at those sparkle skirts, but I was caught red handed!! DH said oh no not again... We've already bought frog togs... And cross body bags... And got sucked into fish extenders on our Disney cruises... So he distracted me by taking me out to dinner! Win-win!!

I'll have to check out those sparkle skirts later!!!

They are so CHEAP, even if you don't have a machine! I can get blank shirts at Hobby Lobby for less than $3 each. And for the girls I find stuff on clearance at Wal-Mart for next to nothing. I had some black and white chevron shirts that I just had a red glitter Mickey added. Cheap and simple, but so cute!

We've made our own Mickey tie-dye shirts and they are so easy. The older girls would probably not wear them at this point, but the younger kids will. Super easy and we usually get compliments on them.

This is great information- I was just looking at buying them and the price had stopped me... I have a wider foot thanks to two pregnancies in the summer- do you think that the shoes would still work- I wear a 8-81/2 wide? Any help would be great.

I think they would still work. I normally wear an 8 and had to go down to a 7 1/2 bc the 8's were too big on me. Try them! Places like REI and Dick's sell them.

I am looking at the multiple packing cube options on Amazon....I don't know which ones to order.
Any help ???

I bought ebags- the small and the medium. I like them bc they are designed to fit on top of each other. I mean... one medium cube is the same size as two of the small ones. I even have the ebags toiletry bag and it the same size as the medium cube. I do think it saves space bc you can "squeeze" things into the cube. I use one medium bag for my pants/shorts, one medium bag for my shirts, and one medium bag for my PJs. I use the small one for my bathing suit or socks.

Love this thread! Things we've bought based on recommendations on the boards:
- body glide (DP loves it)
- blister bandaids (foot savers)
- red/yellow/black/white nail polish to do Mickey toes before our trips (fun)
- stickers and glitter to make mousekeeping tip envelopes
- disposable ponchos
- frog toggs (got a lot of use out of them in August, but we'll probably avoid that heat in the future, so these were a one and done purchase)
- new cross body bag (I like using this style at home anyways, but my Mickey yellow bag tends to get reserved for trips...)
Overall these tips have definitely improved our trips, in my opinion--spend a bit in advance and save a bunch (in time even more than money) in the World.

I also bought a closet organizer based on ideas I saw somewhere here. I really like it, and I only paid a couple bucks for it at IKEA. It sounds like packing cubes might be even more convenient, but DP made (and still makes!) so much fun of me for using the closet organizer. I wonder if packing cubes would push things over the edge...

I bought packing cubes and frogg toggs. My boyfriend actually uses frogg toggs because he works outside so he liked that idea. I wore them occasionally but I didn't really like wearing them all that much. The packing cubes came in handy for all the Disney shirts I bought.

I guess extras like Pirates and Pals that I found out about through the boards too.

I'd blame the disboards for my disney shopping obsession, but I think that's just me. I found so many cute clothes and ears for our first trip and I've found many more since then. If I had to blame someone for that it would be instagram and etsy. I follow shops and whenever they post something cute I have to check it out. My ear collection has grown quite a bit for our upcoming trips :p

I forgot to add that one to my list! I have those little IKEA closet organizers as well for all of our closets at home. They proved to be exceptional for storing dry goods in the closet next to the Poly studio's kitchenette, which has room for not much more than a box of crackers.

They're actually useful at home too! :rotfl:

forgot to add... when you stay at a value- if you have more than one person- we put up those sweater hangers that hold bulky sweater or shoes... these are god sent when you have 3 draws for 9 days... I bought one for me and the kids and my husband uses the drawers... worth the hassle of bringing them

OK... You totally forgot the new crafts that you have to learn to do!!!!
matching tye-dyed hidden Mickey t-shirts for the fam
Decorating your magic bands.. paint, markers, stickers, decals, polish
Decorating your door at resort or ship..

When will the madness end!!!

What a fun thread! I so relate to many posts. DISboards posts have affected my Dis planning in positive ways. I get items based on all your experiences and save money in the long run - well, that's what I tell myself. Let's see...I've now got:

- Frogg toggs to try out for the first time in WDW in two weeks
- we're taking a stash of glow sticks for the first time; some to share
- got an ultralight backpack (not waterproof, alas)
- Brita water filter bottle (filter must be inserted exactly right)
- Keens ladies Newport sandal which is perfect for my wide feet
- Matching family shirts
- Body glide (got it but haven't used it for three trips, but take it anyway?)
- Zip lock bags
- Still old school fanny pack.
- thanks to reading this thread, I just ordered two sparkle skorts!
- The Disney Visa card
Packing cubes? Hmmmmmmm.....I'm sure I must need them.....
I also takes small paper plates to share meals as we've found some counter serve restaurants don't like to give out extra plates.
Thank you for all your suggestions!

Well let's see. There's a whole tote of items just for Disney that contains Body Glide, 2 skirts (Disney is the only place on earth I wear skirts!), sandals, DisneyBound clothing items, etc. There is the $50 worth of crafts because I thought it'd be a good idea to custom make my own Disney ears (it wasn't). It turns out I owned packing cubes before I learned of the DIS, but I don't know where they came from and I was just using them to hold random stuff in the house. Now I have three sets! But I love 'em. Mister, yep, I have two. Baggallini, OF COURSE. Plus a lightweight waterproof packable sling bag AND a packable backpack, because you should always have a bag inside your bag.

I'm still trying to figure out why I took the advice to bring glow sticks, because me and my sister looked silly being 19 and 18 and pulling out the glow sticks to keep us from buying the light up swords at the park (spoiler: we still bought the swords, while we were wearing the glow bracelets).

uhhhh...my mid-thirties friends and I - male and female - go through a ten pack a night of glow sticks each. And we don't look silly. We look AWESOME.

I've got a bunch left (both the traditional Alien green & a slightly darker Gamma green, both are lime afaik) I'll send them out if we want to do a revival!

Can I have one?!? I looked for months before I finally realized they stopped carrying them.

I'm glad DW doesn't follow the DIS. This thread is like holding an AA meeting at a bar.

This is one of my favorite internet comments of all time.

Are the sparkle skirts that people talking about the $70 ones? Are they very different than running skirts of other brands to cost that much?

Well, I found out about business class rooms at CS, the amazing villains party, the Star Wars dessert party all this trip. Oh and I got annual passes because my Dis addiction makes me keep taking trips. Years ago did the wishes party. and last years Christmas party - had to see the Osborn lights finally before they left of course or we wouldn't have gone that trip). Really the more than once a year trips are thanks to my Dis addiction. I have to read the Dis at least once a day and what is the point if you aren't planning a trip so I have to always be planning a trip or I am depressed. I need to join a Disney annonymous group
