How Is October?

Thanks for this thread! We always go in December or July. As much as we love Christmas in Disney, we wanted to try F&W at least once and will look for a BounceBack for next October. All the positive reviews (besides Epcot on weekends) is exciting!

I was at WDW last October and am going again this year. The weather is glorious and the crowds are very manageable. Me and my husband celebrate my birthday at F&W on a Saturday and the crowds were a little heavier but we didn't let them ruin our day. I also love the decorations at MK. We are doing the MNSSHP this year and I can't wait!

So many on this thread have said the weather was "great" or "glorious". But what does that mean to you? What is "great" weather for you may be what I would consider hot and uncomfortable. One person said something about hot days for the pool - I wouldn't consider that "great" for park touring. I'm going last week of October/early Nov.

Thanks!

We are going in October for the first time and the kids are really looking forward to MNSSHP. Hope we love Disney in October!

I've been on several October trips, and have experienced just about every kind of weather. I've had: warm and pleasant; hot and humid; very hot and humid; and unbearably hot and humid. You just never know with October - it can be very pleasant, or "surface of the sun" hot. Even had a trip one year that started out extremely hot and humid (mid-90s) then cooled down by about 30 degrees overnight. I had packed based on the first seven days of the trip, almost all shorts sleeveless tops and sandals. When the temps dropped so dramatically the last few days of the trip, I was really scrounging to find warm enough clothes.

And regarding possible rain, I've had October trips that had almost no rain (just a few brief afternoon showers) to a full-on hurricane in 2005. You just never know, so it's a good idea to pack a little bit of everything including rain gear. And pack at least three different pairs of shoes - if one pair gets soaked in a rainstorm, it might take a day or two to dry out!

We have gone at the end of October the last several years. No two trips have had the same weather but in general the summer humidity is going away and temps are more in the 80's than 90's. To some the 80's might still be considered hot. Last year we were there when Sandy hit. The storms did not hit Florida but the effect was much cooler temps. A couple days had highs only about 70. Another year we had temps in the 90's.

I would call the weather great as in not having daily rain and not having summer Florida heat and humidity.

Of course we are talking about weather so all bets of prediction are off.

We are going in October for the 1st time this year... missing F&W on the weekend for Epcot so hopefully slower. I am so excited!

we generally have lovebugs the beginning of May and Sept.

Do you mean to say it's a short duration and they are typically gone by October? We went in May years ago and the Love Bugs were overwhelming, we needed a bug screen on Dumbo!

We love going in October! We’ve gone the 3rd week of October before and this year we’re going the week before Columbus Day. It’s a great time of year to go. MK is decorating for Halloween and MNSSHP is definitely worth attending! The F&WF is an awesome event (especially if you plan on staying at one of the Epcot resorts and can walk over there). It does tend to get busier on the weekends, so I recommend going to the F&WF during the week. They have all sorts of cooking/wine demos, specialty dinners, food booths, and the Eat to the Beat concert series.

We’ve always enjoyed the October weather. It’s usually in the 80s during the day and 60s/70s at night. We’ve swam and been to the water parks several times in October. The crowds are lighter in October, expect for the F&WF on the weekends.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree with you! Just love to go in October. Can't wait to be there in a couple of months!

Count us in as October fans as well. Like everyone has mentioned the weather is quite manageable, the MNSSHP is a lot of fun and the F&W Festival is a blast.

We've been the past two Octobers (will be there 10/19-10/26) this year and it's by far our favorite time to go! Just avoid the World Showcase on the weekends and you're good to go. :thumbsup2

yes, typically the duration is 2- 2 1/2 weeks, last year wasn't to bad.. but they will be gone before Oct! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I'd like a love bug free Disney unless this guy drops in!

We have only gone to WDW during Christmastime. I love everything about it (esp Neil Patrick Harris narrating the CP) but we want to try something new. We are thinking about October. We can pretty much go at anytime during the month. How is the weather? crowds? We are planning on Boardwalk or Beach Club. We love Epcot and would like to check out the F&W festival but we don't want to encounter a mob scene.

Thanks for all replies

We went last Oct for the first time. It was very humid & hot. I was a little bummed. We are used to going in mid november when the crowds & weather are nicer. To each their own I guess? :)

ok so going to go into this being optimistic... have no choice but to go on the weekend, therefore, even though the crowd calendars do say to avoid Epcot, the day I am going is also MNSSHP and extra magic hrs. at HS, so I'm thinking maybe, just maybe the evening will lighten up a bit from those leaving to attend those??;)
a girl can hope...pixie dust for luckpixiedust:

We have been several times during F and W on the weekends, and though world showcase is busy, we found Future World to be light and not much of a problem....most people are there to eat and drink. We take a short stroll to get a beer or margarita and then we stay mostly to future world on the weekend.

It must be a short duration. PP said beginning of May and we went mid-May 2009 and end of May 2011 and don't remember noticing large amounts of any types of bugs, and I am bug-phobic :thumbsup2
