See now thats exactly the kind of thing I worry about happening.I seen one report on I believe 20/20 about a 14 year old girl who was taken out of the teen disco by a crew member and told her parents needed her right away.
He then took her to a part of the ship that was isolated and raped her.
He told her if she told anyone he would kill her entire family so she said nothing to anyone and continued on the next 4 days without telling a soul what happened to her.It wasn't until months later when her parents noticed she was very sad and moody and she finially told them what happened to her.
Its so terriable that this is something we all as parents has to worry about .
I worry about mine all the time and they have told me I am too overly protective but I can't help it.Thank you all for all your imput.I will take it all into consideration when I make my decision.
If I do decide to cruise with Disney I think I will have to just keep the kids with me and the hubby at all times. They can still have fun even if we don't seperate from them, lol. :confused3 Can't they?
You have to do what works for you and your family.

We used to give our sons a code word and told them that if someone came to tell them to go with a stranger, if it was legit, the stranger would have the code word.

We also told them to go together or take a buddy.

We told them that secrets are not good and that Policemen and security officers are our friends.

If that 14 year old had a code word from her parents (and why couldn't the other parent have gone to get her???? if it was legit???that one was hurt???) and took a buddy from the teen club with her, the guy could never have taken advantage of her. If her parents had told her that secrets are not good things, she would have reported while the guy could still be aprehended.

But, you have to decide what will work best for your kids.
We too kept our kids with us when we went to WDW or other places. We enjoyed their company and had fun doing what they wanted to do. Now at 25 and 29 they enjoy traveling with us still. But we do let them go places on their own now--they are bigger and stronger than we are.

I think these comments just cemented my previous opinion. I will not let my son check himself out. A 9 yr old by himself is too young to go wondering around the ship by himself. Thanks!

when you sign them up for the club you have to give a password and you have to give that code to get them out.

Check some sites, we're looking at some great rates for Feb. I'm checking out a 3night wdw/4 night cruise for 3 people cat 12 $2185 at Caribbean beach resort or cat 6 and Poly for $3485...that's NOT bad!!! I would normally just go for the 7 night cruise only but we're meeting some DIS buddies at wdw for a few days :woohoo: there are pros and cons to everything. If you do the land/sea pkg you get 7 day park hopper passes...BUT you can't get the ddp... pirate: good luck on your decision. it is so awesome!!!!
